Hokie Hoops Central: Non Conference Schedule

Screenshot-20250803-132013

Bit tougher than I expected but big matchups are South Carolina, Duquesne and Providence. Would consider all the others must win. Providence and South Carolina are on the road so will be tougher tests.

Battle 4 Atlantis teams are Colorado State, Saint Mary's, South Florida, Vanderbilt, VCU, Virginia Tech, Western Kentucky, and Wichita State. Schedule for that isn't set yet. Wichita State, Saint Mary's and USF will be the toughest teams. Don't know what to expect with VCU now that Ryan Odom has moved up the road to UVA.

This is a good non-con. A couple easy W's. some toss ups. and some tough games that should be a nice test and draw a crowd. Just have to win a couple at the B4A and hopefully not get rolled there

Plan for the worst and hope for the best, not the other way around.

Selfishly, I wish they had a home and home with George Mason. Eagle Bank arena would sell out in a heart beat with NoVA fan base

Bleeding burnt orange and chicago maroon

Id go

Same thing with VCU/Richmond. It would be nice to play a road OOC game in NOVA or Richmond where we have large alumni bases.

Does not apply for football....

November 26 Hokies will face Colorado State in Battle 4 Atlantis. That will put them up against Brandon Rechsteiner.

Game two will be either Wichita St or St Mary's depending on results.

If we win it will be St Marys by far the best opponent in the tournament. Those two will be decent wins if we can get them, much needed looking at the rest of the slate

This is the kind of schedule that keeps the ACC from getting into the tournament. Even though quality wise Duquesne, St Joes and George Mason are not bad, wins don't help perception wise and probably won't metrics wise either (A10 usually underrated by metrics imo). We needed to add a couple big time games to this schedule, important now especially with viewership now being taken into the equation.

Battle 4 Atlantis is our chance to add some OOC wins. Will also have the ACC v SEC challenge as well. The ACC has plenty of chances to get OOC wins. I would rather have wins than SOS.

We get Colorado State which is a so so opportunity, St Mary's is pretty solid and would be a great win (but they're also pretty good and probably beat us, given the youth of our team). Everyone else in that tournament is extremely mid.

So it's basically St Marys (if we get them), Providence and maybe South Carolina as good opponents, Colorado State being a half decent one. So for quad 1 wins that's max 4 but most likely 1 maybe 2. You can't do that if you want to make the tournament.

I'd say ideal number of quad 1 games you want to play in the noncon is 5, to allow you to lose a couple and still be in good shape. Right now I'd set the over/under at 1.5. St Mary's is the only guaranteed quad 1 game, but we aren't even guaranteed to play them.

St Marys is going to beat VT by 20 unless we shoot 80% from 3. Mark that down and bet accordingly. They are typically long/big/tough inside and have great shooters.

Not that I don't believe you. But I'm surprised no one has collected your "This will happen, Mark it down, Bet on it" posts and tracked your success rate.

I made an absurd amount of money betting trends on VT hoops the past 2 years. It's easy really. We aren't winning at Conte Forum or JPJ...you start there. Bet 500 dollars plus money on BC to beat us in hoops up there, and then bankroll that into other obvious scenarios like us making Brad Brownell look like a competent coach. Easy money. Others- Louisville will beat us in mens hoops 98% of the time. Pitt football will beat us in Pitt 100% of the time. Easy money. You may not like it, you may say its DC being DC, but laugh to the bank. Seriously. You think VT football is beating a non con P4 team this fall? Do you really? That's my teaser. Make yourself some money.

Love you bud, but when we talked about this, I said I was glad that the Commonwealth of Virginia doesn't allow betting on Virginia schools. I don't like having the temptation to bet against VT, because I just can't do it. I don't want any reason to root against the Hokies pulling the massive upset.

I never root against the Hokies. ever. If I lose money so be it... but why not cash in on us losing every single time at BC hoops? In vegas you dream of those locks.

Cuse dome is a lock too. No matter how good we look or how bad they do

I know you don't. I just can't see myself betting against the Hokies, and I'm glad that Virginia (Commonwealth of, not University of) has removed the temptation.

Ryan and Sheri tell me to bet against the hokies, so they will win!! lol

I'm laughing because I'm exactly the same here. I throw a few $$ at those lines all the time... And knowing how miserably predictable VT football and basketball are makes it very easy money.

EDIT: I will bet on VT to cover the spread in week one, but I'll also throw some money out on USCe to win outright (won't win much on that one).

Is coronavirus over yet?

Oh I believe it, I just want to see it charted.

This is a much friendlier schedule for folks coming from out of town. Last year there was only ONE home weekend non-con game (everything else on the weekend was away or neutral site). There's six this year.

I found TKP after two rails from TOTS then walking back to my apartment and re-watching the 2012 Sugar Bowl. I woke up the next day with this username.

What's the deal with Duquesne being an exhibition? Is that something new? First time I can remember seeing an actual opponent advertised.

Yeah I don't recall them ever announcing ahead of time. Usually its secret squirrel type action midday on a weekday against JMU or Radford
