Hokie Hoops Central: George Mason (9-0) at Virginia Tech (7-2) 3pm ACCNX

George Mason (9-0)
at
Virginia Tech (7-2)
3pm ACCNX

Will add to this over next couple hours but wanted thread posted

Battle of my Alma Mater's
Mason comes in 9-0 this season. Impressive. Until you look at their schedule. The hardest opponent they have faced so far is James Madison or FAU Wins over Wofford, Winthrop, Catawba, New Hampshire, Jacksonville, Ohio, FAU, JMU and Cornell. That out of the way, seven of their victories have been by double-digits so they haven't faced much adversity or trailed in many games so will be interesting to see how they react.

This is Tony Skinn's third season at George Mason and talk about a Portal Special. The top eight scorers are all new to Mason and come in as follows:

Mincy Presbyterian
Long Maryland
Troutman Northeastern
Allenspach Samford
Ellington Murray State
Adebao Mt St Marys
Presley Vanderbilt
Hill Ball State

Mincy putting up an incredible scoring campaign and Mason was fortunate to get Jermahri Hill back from injury about 4 games ago as he has added a second double-digit scoring threat from the bench since his return. Troutman is the other guy in double figures off ghe bench. This is also a very experienced roster even though they are new to each other. Six seniors will see the majority of playing time today.

Defensively expect "Patriot Pressure", an aggressive, up-tempo man-to-man focused on strong defense and creating turnovers to fuel offense.

Offensively, he has adjusted his perimeter focus to his new personnel so has been more focused on transition scoring and dribble penetration to create opportunities. They do shoot the ball well at 54% inside and 41% outside.

LET'S FUCKING GO!!!!

HOKIES!!!

I seldom speak to loluva grads, but when I do, I tell them I want large fries.

Updated a bit. Coach Young this week confirmed Tobi is likely out into January maybe longer on how it heals.

Ugh.

My wife takes the kids and leaves the house while I watch my Hokie games.........nuff said

Yeah, the boot he was wearing is not consistent with be back soon.

As another Hokie undergrad & GMU grad, I win no matter what.

This is a game that should be played every year home and home so NOVA Hokies can attend at Patriot Center.

Outside it's night time, but inside it's LeDay

Go Hokies!!

Another team we should be dominating in the paint and are not. Getting outrebounded again.

Terrible defense and rebounding once again. Lawal is sorely missed on the boards.

"For those who have passed, for those to come, reach for excellence."

Defense has tightened up a bit. GMU with an 8-1 offensive rebound advantage has kept them in it. Avdalas pick and roll + Schutt nuclear from 3 has the Hokies pulling away at halftime.

Schutt be shootin'

That string of 3 s to finish the 1/2!

This is going to be great for the ACC.

Awesome finish to the half

Someone help me here. We keep looking not that good, and then suddenly go on a run where we look really good and pull away or catch up. Does that mean are are we actually pretty good?

Sometimes we live no particular way but our own

Inconsistent. Have potential to be good but hard to tell given we have a major contributor in Lawal out for a while.

Inconsistent is the word. We're just as likely to do a string of stupid crap! Turnovers, fouls, quick shots, etc.

Talent and athleticism is borderline Tournament team without Lawal.

Teamwork and experience in Youngs system is still very much a work in progress

Got to slow down a little. Getting to Schutt happy! And getting a little sloppy on defense. GW is a good team and will make you pay if you're not careful. Play to win, don't play to lose. But play smart!

George Mason not George Washington

oops! just an upside down M. (good catch)

Dorn has a long way to go to be effective

He and Gurdack both! But they're working on it. Game minutes, film, practice, improvement.

I think he will shine during physical games. Something our bigs have struggled with in CMY's system.

FAM!

good win over a good team. FAM!

77% from the line. That's one thing we need to keep doing. Noice!

Pain is Temporary, Chicks Dig Scars
Glory is Forever, Let's Go Hokies!!

It was a great win for the team.
