VT Hockey @ UNC

I forget who mentioned it but thank you for tipping us off for the game. Currently the Hokies hockey team are on pace to score more points tonight against UNC than Hokies football scored last night. Currently 4-0 w 8 min left in the 1st period.

Clearly, the tone was set from the opening drop.

Honestly they could have sold more if they opened more of the stadium up. Not upset I'm in the standing room only section as we might have the best view of the ice.

5-0 Hokies @ 10:51 in the 2nd

Brody Meadows and Pop Watson were honorary captains for the game

Hockey school!

"When I was growing up, Virginia Tech was a school that was kicking ass and taking names, and it's time we get back to that" - James Franklin

Man I would love if tech ever actually decided to push for a pair of D1 hockey programs. Gotta think there are enough fans that would support them. But given the state of things that seems like the pipe dream of pipe dreams

Here lies It's a Stroman Jersey I Swear, surpassed in life by no one because he intercepted it.

I think one of the rules for NCAA hockey is an on campus stadium. That in itself would be a major hangup I would assume. I'd be all for VT D1 hockey, just seems like we would have to get an ultra mega donor (Penn State is funded by the Pegulas I think) and then we'd have to go through the rest of the rigamarole to get there after that. Unfortunately I don't have billions laying around or I would be more than happy to spearhead it.

Again, would never happen from cost perspective but Cassell would make such a good hockey venue if it could be converted. Steep, loud, and has the feel of an old barn (because it is old).

Agreed on all fronts. It would definitely have that vibe, but would probably cost more to renovate than tear down and rebuild in full.

If that really is a rule, then that is absurd. What about all the colleges that share sports venues with professional teams (e.g. Miami with the Dolphins @ Hard Rock)? What would be so special about hockey that the same couldn't be allowed? I would think VT could consider their home rink at LancerLot? I say that without knowing what the seating capacity is like there.
