OT:Hulk Hogan dies at 71

Apparently heart attack although lots of rumors recently about his health. That's three celebrities in short order with Malcolm Jamal Warner and Ozzy.

Dang he was a legend for decades. I just revisited his wiki. His match vs Andre the Giant in 1988 still holds TV viewership records for a wrestling event.

RIP

(add if applicable) /s

Sad man. Loved him as a kid watching wrestling

Rest in peace brother.

Every famous septuagenarian that peaked in the 80's has to be nervous right now.

You know you're getting old when all your childhood heroes are passing away.
Even though he wasn't a standup citizen in real life, he pretty much single handed resurrected pro wrestling and made it what it is today. A true icon from that standpoint. RIP

Callused perineum is a symptom of being a uva fan

Pro Wrestlers are like rock stars- drugs, women, etc. none of those guys are choir boys. Its a lifestyle. Many get addicted to opiods real quick since they are in pain all of the time

You know you're getting old when...people your age are dropping like flies

You know you're getting old when your parents are gone and several of your good friends have been dead so long you've quit grieving and spouses have moved on. And people my age are dropping like flies

RIP Terry. Some of his movies and TV shows were so bad they were good.

Chuck Mangione's death is getting overshadowed by Hogan's death.

All these high profile deaths do not feel so good.

Feels so... bad. RIP.

Dang ozzy and hulk in the same week... Who is next, dogg the bounty hunter?

Wow. An absolute legend and icon in music and now wrestling gone in the same week. Unreal.

I think Hulk is on the Mount Rushmore of wrestling no doubt, but also a cultural icon similar to Ozzy. As OP mentioned - huge pieces of childhood all gone at once.

RIP to the Hulkster. Going to have to blast "Real American" today.

I was involved in making a video for a big biotechnology company many years ago. Interviewing a KOL (key opinion leader) that was meant to educate (and by that, I mean promote) the use of their medication to oncologists. Anyway, various people there were talking with the crew and someone asked who was the best to work with and the worst for celebrities. The make up lady and film crew said Hulk Hogan was the best. I'll elaborate later tonight when I have more time. But supposed to be the nicest guy you will ever meet.

Edit, so here is the story. Someone asked the film crew and the markup artist who were the best and worst people they worked with. Hulk Hogan was the best. Said he was at some signing event and he just sat there patiently and calmly as the lady went through all of the makeup application. Was friendly with the team. There were still people outside of the venue when it was supposed to close up. He said he would wait until everyone that was in line at closing time got in to see him and got the autograph. Was supposedly very pleasant with all the fans. After everyone was gone - well after the event was supposed to end - he gave away a bunch of merchandise to the crew that was working, signed their stuff and was just a perfect gentleman the entire time.

I don't like to say who the worst one was as I never met them and generally don't like to badmouth people because of secondhand comments, but I've read or heard they are a real jerk more than once, so 99.9% chance it is accurate.

Every report I ever saw said the same thing. He knew fans made his career and always had a great attitude for them public and private.

Heard this actually just a week ago from the guys that installed the emergency generator at his house (one of them, at least) not long ago. Opened the door, gave them all hugs and handshakes and treated them like family, having lunch brought in for them during the duration of the project (couple days).

Crazy week. RIP Hulk and Ozzy.

Warning- Filter lost.

Recently read the book about how Peter Theil funded Hulk Hogan's take down of Gawker. Wild story that Hulk Hogan got caught in the middle of (and benefited from financially). I don't know if I'd call him a 'good person' but he definitely lived a fascinating life and was deserving of empathy. RIP.

certainly not within the bounds of this community but your post begs the question: how do you define 'good person'?

This is a rhetorical question, so please don't respond here. It would be a fascinating discussion to have with you sometime, over a few beers. If ever we could make that happen

"A cadet will not lie, cheat or steal, nor tolerate those that do" That is the VTCC honor code and every other military academy. Pretty good place to start IMO

Saw Hogan and his daughter signing autographs randomly on the first floor of the Roanoke Mall back in 2004/5....i thought it was an anime convention with all of the pop music blasting over the speakers.

Proud Hokie since 2004.

Really good podcast covering the highs and lows of Hulk Hogan, from being the most popular, most willing contributor to the Make-a-wish foundation, to screwing over coworkers, to proudly calling himself a racist.

He also vocally recanted and apologized for the racist remarks later in his life.
