Hell yeah here we go again!

"Do you understand the words that are coming out of my mouth?!"

I wonder what he has been offered and by whom.

Doesn't matter if it's cake or pie as long as it's chocolate.

I don't blame anyone for wanting to run away from this basketball program right now.

"When I was growing up, Virginia Tech was a school that was kicking ass and taking names, and it's time we get back to that" - James Franklin

It's an easy fix. Wake did it a couple years ago, Louisville last year, McNeese last year. Just go buy a fucking D1 high major team. Just go buy a team. It's not climbing mt everest. Have your assistants find guys that fit the system from Arkansas, Michigan, Gonzaga, or a hundred ACC players you missed on in recruiting the first time. Wofford is good- buy some of their guys. I am being dead serious.

I am going to take the positive view of this situation. May we are planning to do that and we told Mr. Brown to look for another home because we were bringing in better players.

We shall see if VT wants to be 12-25 or win in men's basketball. Simple as that. To win today, you need to buy coaches that know how to teach inbounding the basketball and identify players/have connections with mercenaries. Then you need to buy the players. Wake, St. Johns, New Mexico, McNeese, Clemson wanted to be decent/good in hoops. Let's see if we want to. bottom line.

My personal crystal ball is saying that we will convince kid ourselves that we can be successful as a "smart investment" basketball school...what any serious school would call cheap. We will think that the right coaches, who are the Hokie Way kind of people through and through, coupled with the cozy comfort of Blacksburg/rural SWVA and VT's excellent academics & dining, will attract the right kind of athletes in order to field competitive ball teams in the ACC. NIL will remain that crazy wild idea that only the foolish schools with tons of money laying around will recklessly embrace, and the NCAA will do the right thing, soon, to correct the imbalance it has exacerbated. Each mediocre to poor season will pepper in just enough flashes of success to keep the administration afloat and able to say things like "There were plenty of positives this past season that we will be able to build on for next season. That'll be our year!"

Exactly. VT continues to be "special" in the worst possible way. We can't buyout coaches, we can't pay womens assistant coaches, we can't do NIL for basketball AND football, the list fucking goes on. I'm certain a big part of our 26 strategy will be mike young "coaching them up" again. But if we were serious about winning, we would stop fucking being pennywise and pound foolish and invest in the program. The only thing that matters in hoops is the NCAA tourney. If you aren't in it- you are irrelevant. Period. So perhaps if we made the fucking tournament we would get more investment and interest in the program, eh? Look at programs with sustained/regular NCAA bids that aren't Duke and Kansas- Creighton, St. Mary's, Marquette, SD State, etc. but VT- a supposed high major- is special to the tune of not making the NCAA's more than not. Definition of insanity.

This is exactly what NC St did last year.

didn't work out that well after the fact, but hey a final four run is a good time regardless.

If you don't want to recruit clowns, don't run a clown show.

"I want to punch people from UVA right in the neck." - Colin Cowherd

Yes- give me 10 wins from March 15-April 1st on a fluke ass luck run with a shit roster any day of the week vs. sitting at home- not being on any bracket shows, not being on 1 shining moment, etc. The only thing that matters is march. The only thing that matters is the NCAA tournament- that is when millions are watching and paying attention to your program- and oh, the only way to win a national title is to be in the fucking tournament. A random nc state team who finished 10th in the ACC came 2 wins away from that last year. But you have to be in the fucking tournament to do that. When Shaka and Gregg Marshall were gaming the RPI- they got it. Both went all in to get to march- that's what mattered. Both scored millions of dollars in contracts. They didn't do that and raise the proile of their programs winning december games. Get with the fucking program Whit. Or go 12-100 again. Either one.

This is how professional basketball works.

Nope. In professional basketball, Brown would have a contract.

I don't doubt that he'll have one.

I would have liked to have seen him get more time than Rechsteiner. But you have to play defense at a certain level to get floor time.

Jaydon young and others coming.

Young and Whit should fully expect the whole fucking team- lawal, young, hammond, rech to leave. That way we can find fucking guys before august. FFS.

Here we go again ...

VT Football: It'll get after ya!

Proud Hokie since 2004.

This one doesn't surprise me. He had a decent run mid season but after an injury, never got back in Young's rotation.

Agreed...if you couldn't break into regular rotation on this team, it's a pretty obvious sign you need to step down a level.

Which then brings up the obvious question...how does a guy who averages <5ppg for his career and about to be at his 3rd school have an agent?

Oh that's right...he doesn't have an agent, he has an "NIL agent" who is really just a parasite on this completely fucked NIL system.

Whatever (??any??) NIL Brown could get he could get on his own. Paying some mid-20's schmuck with no actual experience one cent is just getting taken advantage of.

"Which then brings up the obvious question...how does a guy who averages <5ppg for his career and about to be at his 3rd school have an agent?"- I'll answer that... This is America. The only country in the world where if you show some promise in basketball around 12-13 years old (8th grade) you enter the Sports Bag Industrial Complex. At that point - you average 12 points on your AAU team, 6 assists in games where defense is not played, have some height, can dribble, maybe dunk in 8th grade- at that moment, you enter the bag machine. NOTHING else matters- you are coddled, you don't have to take academics seriously, you are recruited by major universities giving you a priceless opportunity to showcase your skills and get a Stanford, Duke, UVA, Cal education because you have drawn attention in the Sports Bag Complex- nothing else is important. Eddie Curry's mom fed his brothers mac and cheese and Eddie rib eyes because Eddie was in the Complex. Countless NY playground legends that could not read were offered world class educations from Jim Calhoun, Jim Boeheim, Valvano, Rollie, Tark. Literally could not read. Try getting into Syracuse University otherwise. It's part of American culture- now more than ever- this complex. Hell Jaydon Young actually made it to a high major program. There are countless kids with agents, runners, AAU scum that couldn't play for Colorado School of mines. But it remains a thing because this is the only country on earth where grown men and women feed a beast that sees less than 1% of these kids make it to the NBA. When you have the sports bag complex, you must pay these kids - you must- whether they can actually play basketball or not. Why? Go Blue! Let's GO Hokies! The complex is always fed with irrational boosters that will do anything to beat Ohio State or UVA. And the parents of those 12 year olds in AAU know it. Iverson knew it when he threw a chair at a kid and was given clemency to go to one of the most prestigious schools in the country. Now that is not enough- he must get paid over the table millions while he is there. Hoya Saxa! Marcus Vick knew it as he was a total fucking degenerate and disgrace to my alma mater- grown men fed it and coddled him. The Sports Bag Industrial Complex is fucking real, 100% a house of cards, and 100% detrimental to 99% of the kids its supposed to "help".

I must say, your way with words is truly beautiful and I really needed this today for a dose of reality and a chuckle. I don't always agree with your takes, but I admire your honest opinions. This take however, I completely agree with. I hope my post here comes across as the compliment I mean it to be!

I mean it's slightly better than the complex in other countries that take you from your family and train you for a decade just to lose to the Americans in the Olympics.

Or win, depending on the sport and the country.

It's not like Olympians in the U.S. don't make similar sacrifices in the name of glory, even if the money is better.

They make take you from your family, but the olympic federation doesn't beg joe citizen to pay you via donations. Its a "job" in Germany, much like a plumber. The college begging pretense is not there at all.
