TarHoles are led by RJ Davis and come to Cassell squarely on the wrong side of the bubble right now. They are 18-1 vs Quad 2-4 but a terrible 1-10 vs Quad 1 teams. They come to face the Hokies absolutely needing to win and probably needing 3 wins in the ACCT as they play #2 Duke to close out the season. They have 5 ACC games that ended with a two point of less difference of which they went 4-1.
Not sure I see a path to victory but this Hokies team doesn't quit either so would be extra sweet to basically lock UNC into a NIT berth.
Sorry don't have the brain power to really dive any deeper. Running a conference of 700+ people should not be on anyone's bucket list.

Is it just me, or does it feel like RJ Davis has been at UNC for 10 years?
Only 10? Could have sworn he was playing there before my kids were born
My FIL says he played against him when he played for WVT in '62-'63.
E$ecPN Predictor gives us a 21.7% chance to win, so there is that. UNCheat listed as 7.5 point favs, but I'm not a betting man and for sure wouldn't bet on VT either way in any game.
Wife did once and I got stuck buying a BC t-shirt for her to wear the following year; betting with my BC-grad cousin in the infamous Ryan Willis zillion interception game in Beantown.
"TarHoles are led by RJ Davis and come to Cassell squarely on the wrong side of the bubble right now"- LMFAO- not only is UNC getting in, they will avoid Dayton and be a 9 seed. Mark my words. They could also go on a random run and win 5 games in 5 days like random NC State team did last year. How is final four NC State random team doing this year?
Pack can't win 5 in 5 days since they won't even be there for the ACCT. Bottom three locked out
Oh so no shit ass team making a random final four run again? Wow I'll really miss that.
Checking standings for 15-seed team. That's the team to watch.
Notre Dame, Cal, Syracuse
ND is annoying enough to win 5 games in 5 days for sure
Not so good, Bob.
Heard that NC State was planning to fire Keatts after the season, but when they fell into a time warp and won all those games, not only couldn't they fire him, but a contract clause kicked that auto extended the contract and gave him a raise. Don't know if it's true, but got to love it.
As a VT fan, that fucking NC State team- fuck them. Seriously. 10th seed in the ACC and they win that fucking tourney- thanks Tony Bennett- you prick- to get IN the dance, and then go to a final four. VT wouldn't do that in any fucking sport ever.
Unlikely but a win here would be great momentum moving into tournament play.
The goal should be to (1) Identify who we're keeping after NIL deals are reworked (2) Build a foundation/confidence with those players to lean on coming into next year.
I want Lawal back badly - a little work on his body he's a first round draft pick in the OG Anunobly mold.
UNC traditionally does not play great in Cassel. And this is not a good UNC team... BUT they are strong (point guard/slashers) where we are weak. Could be a close game.
"he's a first round draft pick "- Highly doubtful, WADR- He's a dime a dozen for the NBA- a 6'08 wing that's not a great 3 point shooter.
His athleticism is not dime a dozen. VCU tested him with a 49.5" vertical . If he matches that during the combine, it would break the combine record.
GMs are going to love his potential. He has a lot of work to do but I could easily see him as a high-floor role player in the NBA.
His athleticism is not dime a dozen.- in the modern NBA it is. There are college all americans in the G league. It's a different ball game. He needs to be an elite 3 and D guy to get drafted in the first round. NBA role players are veterans and second round picks.
His basketball specific skills are not refined yet because he played soccer most of his life and only a couple years of basketball before college. NBA will see his athleticism as a huge upside and lots of tangible room to grow with continued skill refinement. He isn't someone who has been playing basketball for 20 years and has limited additional development opportunity - he still has a lot of low hanging fruit that would not scare away an NBA team
I am not disputing any of this. What I am trying to say is that there are 30 first round draft picks each year. Lawal is not on any mock draft boards. There are the one and done type prospects and many international players are selected each year in round 1. Its a very small pool to swim in. Your post perfectly describes a second round/ FA type NBA prospect.
Anything is possible if Jaydon Young plays like he did last game in the second half lol
And if we minimize Rechsteiner's playing time and use more Hammond.
Lawal, Johnson, Hammond in my opinion is the core we need to keep and build around. If Jaydon Young can channel the consistency and aggressiveness he's displayed in the past 5 or so games, then keep him in the boat as well. Schutt to space the floor. Bring in a talented big guy who can rebound, score in the post, spray out to shooters, and isn't a liability on defensive rotations and we have something cooking. Obviously that last part is easier said than done. Maybe Wessler/Gurdak can get it done but I'd like to see a bonafide improvement there.
Still need to understand why we haven't seen Ryan Jones. He is so much more athletic and offensively talented than Wessler will ever be.
Damn yeah good point, totally forgot about him. Is there any smoke about what the deal is there? When you're down 30 I don't see a reason to not give him some run
Hide him away so we get at least a year before someone makes him a ridiculous offer to leave.
Rumor I heard is leg injury and had additional surgery since HS ACL. No real facts, just smoke.
Hmm odd never saw any articles on him tearing an ACL but do see some similar posts on Techsideline.
No idea as I haven't followed him that closely. Initially expected him to be a major player this year and nothing. Must be something going on, but nothing is getting out.
Article in the Roanoke Times about the game says he had been sidelined by a toe injury. Played for the first time since Feb. 1.
Is burnham high this game
If it makes him play better... I hope so!
He made up for the terrible start with the under the opposite side of the hoop basket immediately after I called him out. Just trying to light a fire under him
Lawal out again but seems healthy on the bench. Laughing ect. Weird
announcers said lower leg injury
Weird that last game was illness...guess it can be both
Ugh late half mess on defense...went from 31-28 to 37-28 in a blink
To 41-28...damnit
Getting killed by dribble penetration
F@#k
Yep 3 point game to a 16 point game just snap
The droughts are still happening. This is so bad.
Watching every player double clutch a wide open shot to then pass it late to the paint and turn it over
well this sucks
16 minutes of good basketball...then deflation
Did not score an actual shot for last 4:11 of the first half.
I mean what the heck happened?
Schutt needs to be replaced, hes... not good bob.
Rechsteiner: too streaky and a turnovers machine.
Dang it this is so frustrating to watch.
And these half time horses asses on espn saying the acc has the opportunity to get players back from the sec - a situation they drove to happen. That dude can kiss my a$$
Not really sure why our gameplan is "yeah, let's make every shot attempt a contested midrange jumper."
Point a minute not going to win you many games
Did not have at risk of getting doubled up on tonight's bingo card
Shooting 12-38 FG and 3-11 from 3. Giving up 13 fast break, 15 off TO's and 26 in the paint will do that quick.
Wessler with a career high in 3-pointers!!!
Typical Hokie fashion: do something great and inspiring (staving off the Syracuse comeback), only to shit it all away the next game.
Oof
I think I'll just watch for Softball, wrestling and Iditarod updates.
We weren't competitive at all in the game really. Sad. This UNC team is not great- they are mid, and they blew us out at home. We have been fiesty at times this year, but yet another reality check.
I mean its a reality check that you can't completely defund a revenue sport and expect it to not spiral all the way down the drain almost immediately in the current collegiate climate.
We were competitive and even leading the game for the first 15 minutes. Then came the nightmare 3 pointers from 4-5 feet beyond the arc.
"We were competitive and even leading the game for the first 15 minutes"- the game is 40 minutes. At one point in the second half, they doubled our score- lol- a conference game. Not competitive in any way. They went on separate 10 and 15 point runs. Boat raced.
