WBB hosts Coastal Carolina Nov 15 @ 2 PM

The Ladies host the Coastal Carolina Chanticleers today at 2 PM. Another ACC Network extra broadcast. Bailey Angle and Mack McCarthy on ACCN; Evan Hughes on Hokie Sports. ESPN gives the Hokies 96.1% chance to win. Another game which should not be competitive.

The Chanticleers are 2-2, losing their first two games and winning the last two.

Coastal Carolina is a mature team. They will start a 3 juniors, #2 Grady 6'2" F, #15 Harris 5'10" F , and #23 Jimenez 5'8" G ; a grad student, #5 Williams 5'8" G and a fifth year student #7 Bradley 5'10" G. Williams led the Sunbelt last year with 52 made threes. They have 3 freshmen and 7 transfers on a squad that is picked to finish 6th in the Sunbelt this year.

The Chants shoot 37.6% overall and 32.8% from three, making 10 3's per game. They only shoot 65.6% from the line. #2 Grady and #5 Williams score 16 and 11 ppg; both are threats to shoot beyond the arc. Both have more attempts from three than from inside the arc(Grady 42 to 14, Williams 26 to 13). #23 Jimenez averages 14 ppg; but has only played in two games.

Fouls could be an issue with Williams (3.0), Bradley (3.3), and Hueston (3.5) averaging over 3 fouls per game.. They average 19 TO's and 14 assists per game. They have outrebounded their opponents 45 to 40 per game; but they may not fare as well against the aggressive Hokie defense. Since their tallest player #2 Grady prefers to shoot from beyond the arc, I expect the Hokies dominate the defensive rebound battle.

This should be another game for Coach Duffy to give everyone playing time and experiment with different groupings.

LET'S GO...

I seldom speak to loluva grads, but when I do, I tell them I want large fries.

HOKIES!!

uva - the taint of the ACC
Callused perineum is a symptom of being a uva fan

Does anyone want 4 tix to the game? Free to a good Hokie home!

Back to back bonehead turnovers. Stepped on sideline two in a row.

Not a big deal in this one score wise but got to clean these things up before ACC play

Maybe tailgating for football made a big dent?

My wife takes the kids and leaves the house while I watch my Hokie games.........nuff said

30-13 after one quarter. Wenzel has 8 points and 4 assists.

Doesn't matter if it's cake or pie as long as it's chocolate.

This 3rd Quarter may be the worst quarter I have watched since Duffy got here. If CCU could hit free throws it might be close.

8 fouls, 7 turnovers.

Hokies are 2 for 14 from floor with 2 minutes to go.

Ladies got outscored 12 to 4 in 3rd quarter on 2 for 18 shooting. Coastal missed 6 free throws or what was a complete blowout could be a sweat here at the end.

Ladies have allowed CCU to get within 11 now. 68-57. It was 53-29 at halftime.

Hokies win 82-59

The Good
All five starters in double-digits
Built a large first half lead (53-29)
Didn't allow terrible 3rd to cause complete implosion
Created 27 turnovers

The BAD
Seventeen Turnovers
Outrebounded by much smaller team
Four points in 3rd Quarter (2/18 shooting)
Poor positioning leading to 21 fouls (8 offensive)

Ladies pull away for an 82 - 59 win. FAM!

Early season jitters or something to be worried about?

Proud Hokie since 2004.

Unfortunately its a trend of sorts. Not this bad but this is 3rd of 4th games having at least a half of underperforming offense against some of the worst teams on our schedule.
