Article I read earlier in the week said there were a handful of contracts with the hotel ending so it was viewed as a more natural window to transition the property. Sounded as if they were considering using the funds to expand support/structure to the medical school.
TKP to crowd-source buy it and make it the most kick-ass game weekend experience known to man......
It would be better than watching from the stands if this keeps up
I seriously wanted to stay there, but never managed to do it. Isn't the running of the hotel a key part of the Hotel and Restaurant Manager major (or whatever they call it now)? Seemed like a good opportunity for the students to run things. Anyway, hope it stays open.
I cant see it closing. Its way to big a part of downtown roanoke
VT selling it based on opportunity doesn't mean its going broke. I think its part of a major hotel group (either hilton or Marriott, I forget which).
My concern is would the VT students in that field continue to get the opportunity to play a role and develop the skills they can now. Hope so no matter what the outcome.
Hilton group
The Roanoke Times article said there are no academic programs are based in the hotel. The Roanoke Rambler article stated the conference center attached to it is in a good financial position so I'm sure it will stay open. Someone will buy it, just depends on what deal gets worked out between them and the City. Roanoke is already short hotel rooms as it is with it being open.
Nope, Tech gave up operating it years ago. It is operated by Hilton today but still owned by Tech and the City of Roanoke I believe.
I was fortunate to stay there quite a few time for game day weekends it was my favorite place to stay as a kid, my mom gained a ton of status and points due to her job so on one occasion they over booked her room...only available was the Governor's suite, that was cool.
My friend had his reception there and we all stayed it was a great hotel. And have out the Hilton free cookies (since it was I thought owned by hilton) I assume with the hotel where the golf course used to be there isn't a reason to own two hotels? But where will the players stay the night before the games?
I suppose they could still stay there. You'd think they'd negotiate a "preferred rate" in perpetuity for the team.
But my actual preference would be for them to never sell.
