Apparently, rock bottom is lined in Hokie Stone

Genuinely, this is the worst football program in the country right now. We are going to get boat raced by almost everyone on the schedule, and that's assuming we can put up a fight against Wofford, and that's really not a sure thing at this point. And did I come up with that headline?

Nope!

I don't know how anyone survives this weekend. Pry and Whit absolutely have to go. The players who gave up on this season after 2 games should all be forced into the portal. This whole program is broken. Burn it to the ground and start over.

Stanford is pretty bad too. But we are making a strong argument for worst power team and that argument seems to get stronger every quarter.

I'll believe change will be made when I get the notification on my phone. Until then I expect Pry to be on the sideline in 2026.

Stanford won last night against BC. I think that entrenches us solidly below them now.

Yup, they have a win we don't. We're worse.

A conference win too. So it wasn't east west state, it was BC

And BC looked competent so far this year and were -13.5 point favorites which I took with great confidence.

But you and I both forgot that Stanford was playing them after midnight east coast time.

UCLA has a lot of things to say about being bad

They don't have a former 4 star QB, they have a former 5-star QB!

Last night was a goddamn joke and it's not any better after sleeping on it.

This program is a national punchline. Every sports outlet is taking turns mocking it right now. There is no coming back from this for anyone currently associated with the program.

We have no choice but to clean house and we really can't wait. Changes have to be made this week, ideally today. You have to put someone's head on a pike for last night alone.

It won't happen. We do need to clean house, and based on what VTGuitarMan is saying, the BOV will get together on 9/30. I'd bet by the middle of October the AD will be cleaned out. So, we have 30 more days of dread.

To be fair, even as FSU fell apart last year, they didn't fire the coaching staff right away. Granted, he had way more good will built up from the undefeated season the year prior.

At this point, waiting another month won't change much. The national perception of VT is already shot. 5 years from now, people won't remember if we fired Pry in September or October. What will matter is what the BOV will set up as additional revenue and resources to make sure we get back to winning.

Man it's not even about the national perspective, it's about sending a message to the Tech fans that the administration is trying to fix it.

Waiting til the 30th to action is just not good enough. The fanbase deserves better than that. You're charging full price to these games while dragging ass to make decisions, and you risk irreparable damage within your own ranks by delaying it.

Schedule an emergency meeting today and be done with it. Be adaptable, stop following the bureaucratic processes for the sake of it and action when action is needed.

I personally think we hear something on Pry today or tomorrow. There's no coming back from that last night and I fear the entire team may be lost at this point. You have to fire him and name an interim immediately. Whit and any other higher up action/moves will probably occur during the meeting on the 30th if I had to guess.

Yep, fire Pry today and follow-up with firing Whit later this month when an interim AD can be identified. And everyone in the Athletic Department needs to be updating their resumes tomorrow morning

^^^ This ^^^ Any further delay in fixing a problem that can be seen by everyone is just permanently damaging any remaining trust I have in the university as a whole. If delayed, Pry and Whit isn't enough - we need a total clean-out of the VT leadership, including Sands and the entire BOV.

I think what typically happens is they're left alone to do family stuff, church etc. on Sunday. Monday morning at 7:00am he'll be met at the doors to Merryman and given an hour to clean out his office. At 9:00am Whit will have press conference announcing we have moved on from the Brent Pry era and JC Price will once again be interim head coach while the search to fill the position is happening.

And if you really want to dig deeper you can read about the BoV membership here - https://bov.vt.edu/Members

We have exactly one member (Edward Baine) out of the 14 who has served since before '22. The rest of all been appointed by the current VA governor.

Fun play on words and all, but something I've learned as I've gotten older is that there is no such thing as rock bottom. The pit of despair is bottomless. If you're alive, things can always get worse in ways you never even imagined were possible.

While a rather gloom assessment, it also means we've got a ton of space to move up too. Obviously, significant changes are needed though. It's time to drop the shovel and pickaxe and start climbing.

Yup, I think that is how I'm feeling. Rock bottom was the Vanderbilt collapse and watching the game end to an empty crowd. Then rock bottom was watching Drones take a sack to three-and-out after the fumble. Then rock bottom was allowing a 97 yard drive after fumbling inside the five yard line. Then rock bottom was getting boat raced 28-0 by a second tier G5 team at home.

I'm sure rock bottom will be the half filled Lane Stadium next Saturday at noon, followed by the inevitable early three-and-out.

Changes need to be made. This team just looks uninterested, and there is no way in hell that Pry is winning that room back. On a personal level, I do feel bad for Pry because I do think he cares about this program and he was trying his best, but he just doesn't have it. Under his watch he's allowed the following:

  • Drones is in year three and he still looks lost in the passing game.
  • The linebackers and safeties are still making terrible decisions.
  • We're hardly getting any production from recruited and developed skill position players.
  • The offensive line never recovered from Crooks recruiting, and now is playing non-scholarship redshirt freshmen in the two-deep because that is all that's available.

I don't think the talent is worse than the 2022 team, but at least that team looked like they were trying. And for that reason alone you have to fire Brent Pry and clean house. Barring a miracle Brent Key like run under a JC Price, I'm not sure if there is anyone worth keeping around.

100% agree here. Some people just don't have what it takes to be the head man.

In terms of keeping people, I'd be fine with keeping Matt Moore, he's shown he's an effective OL coach and there is developable talent in that room, it's just really young. But if we hire Mullen and he has his own guy then whatever.

The next coaching and AD need to cross the bridge of death so have to answer :
1) What is your name? (Must be at least 'someone with a pulse and competitive fire)
2) what is your quest? (Must be at minimum 'To be in the top half of ACC and competing for ACC championship)
3) What is your favorite color? (Obviously must be Maroon or Orange or both)
4) What is the capital of Assyria? (Needs sense of history)
5) What is the airspeed velocity of an unladen sparrow? (We ARE an engineering school, right?)

Make that 3 years....

From the 2018 VT-uva game-"This is when LEGENDS are made!"

5) What is the airspeed velocity of an unladen sparrow?

African or European?

this doesn't have near enough legs

21st century QBs Undefeated vs UVA:
MV7, MV5, LT3, Grant Wells, Braxton Burmeister, Ryan Willis, Josh Jackson, Jerod Evans, Michael Brewer, Tyrod Taylor, Sean Glennon, and Grant Noel. That's right, UVA. You couldn't beat Grant Noel.

Side note regarding #5: I moved into a new place this summer. Bought this doormat. And, to my surprise, a mystery person left this response on my door about a week later. I was bummed that it was anonymous. I thought I was about to meet a cool neighbor.

If you play it, they will win.

VT might not be nationally relevant, but we're clearly internationally known. Time to pillage England for their best footballers and rugby-ers.

Went to a meeting today, sat next to a UCLA grad, told him he beatcus to the punch, but at least we're ahead of him as I pointed to the Florida grad
