The Men's Team
A 2-2 record over the last four game window puts the Hokies at 18-10 (7-8), 11th in the ACC, and half a game back of a first round bye in the ACC tournament.
Coach Young is up to 122 wins as the Hokie head coach, and his 59 conference wins ranks behind only Chuck Noe (75), Seth Greenberg (68), and Charlie Moir (62).
The loss to FSU might just be the final pop to our bubble, as it is the only Quad 3 loss the Hokies suffered on the season, and the worst thing is, it was the biggest loss on the season. I just don't see how we can lose five Quad 1 games by an average of 5 points, but lose a Quad 3 game by 23. Shoot our 3 Quad 1 wins we won by a combined 22 points, and two of those were on the road.
In any event, the Hokies are 3-8 in Quad 1 (2 remaining), 5-1 in Quad 2 (0 remaining), 3-1 in Quad 3 (1 remaining), and 7-0 in Quad 4 (0 remaining). No two ways about it, the Hokies will finish the regular season with a worse record against Quad 3 than Quad 2.
Scoring
The Hokies bounced back from their previous poorest shooting window (68.25 ppg) to a somewhat more respectable 71.1 ppg. The Hokies had four scorers average double figures, led by Bedford's 14.5 ppg. Rounding out the double digit scorers were Ben Hammond (14.25), Tobi Lawal (13.25), and Amani Hansberry (11.5). All other active Hokies managed to score, with Avdalas (9.25 ppg), Gurdack (4.5), Dorn (2.75), Schutt (2.25) and Pasha (1.0)
Through the first 7 editions of this season, only Hansberry has averaged double figures across all editions. Hammond has done so 5x. Avdalas, Bedford and Lawal have done so 4x. Gurdack, Schutt, and Johnson have done so once.
Rebounding
Individual rebounding has dropped off for the fourth straight edition; this time falling to 28.5 individual rebounds per game, tying edition 2 for the worst production. Lawal and Hansberry led the way with 8-per and 5-per, respectively. Gurdack (3.75), Avdalas (3), Bedford (2.75), and Hammond (2.5) all averaged at least 1 per half, while Pasha (1.5) and Schutt (1.25) averaged at least 1 per game. Dorn did manage to pull down 0.75 rebounds per game, meaning everybody got at least 3.
Assists
Ballhandling improved mightily, though that was mostly due to the revenge game against Wake Forest, where the Hokies went for 19 assists, to a season low 5 turnovers, the best ratio in any game this season. All told, the 62:39 ratio was the best the Hokies have had in ACC play this season and the third best overall. The Hokie starting guards led the way with a mind-boggling AATO ratio of 52:5, bolstered by 12 steals.
Experience/Depth
The Hokies went a little deeper this frame, with 7 getting significant minutes and 2 providing decent relief. Hammond led all with 34.75 mpg, with Avdalas (31.5) joining him in the 30 mpg club. Lawal (29.25) and Bedford and Hansberry (29) were all right there. Schutt (18.25) and Gurdack (14.25) provided first-off-the-bench minutes, while Dorn (7.5) and Pasha (6.25) provided additional depth.
Next Three
For the final edition of the regular season, the Hokies will begin on the road with Quad 1 UNC. Not much to say. They're good.
Then the Hokies take on Quad 3 Boston College for senior night. Not much to say. They're bad.
Wrapping up the regular season, the Hokies take a short drive up to Charlottesville for Quad 1 UVA. Not much to say for this one, except the triple overtime thriller in Blacksburg is still the Hokies' best win on the season.
Prediction
I don't intend on watching the UNC game. I expect us to be out of the game very early. If not, I'll be surprised.
Boston College is the lowest ranked team in the ACC. We will win.
This may sound cavalier, but I think we complete the sweep.
Hokies go 2-1 on the window to end 20-11 (9-9)
The Women's Team
Boy, do I hate ACC refs. Despite going 2-2 against all Quad 1 opponents, the Hokies were absolutely jobbed at the end of regulation in the UNC game by the refs. That one backcourt no-call would have given the Hokies 2 seconds to give the Hokies a chance to be tied for 5th in the ACC, with the tiebreaker, a half game back of the double bye with the tiebreaker against the would be 4 seed.
Instead, they sit 7th with a record of 20-8 (10-6). CMD has guaranteed a .500 winning percentage on the regular season against Q1+Q2 opponents.
Duffy has moved to 39 wins over her 2 years, third best over two years and tied with Carol Alfano's mark after her year 3. As of this edition, she's just 4 wins back of Kenny Brooks at this point in their Hokie careers. For the record, Bonnie Henrickson had the best 2 year start with 50 wins. Call up Jake Taylor to ask what we'd need to do from here on out to pass her.
19 conference wins is 5th best all-time; 8 behind Beth Dunkenberger (7 years), 57 behind Brooks (8 years), 59 behind Henricson (7 years), and 71 behind Alfano (16 years). Through 2 years, she's only 7 behind Henrickson. In fact, through next season, Duffy is still only behind Henrickson in wins. Through 4 years, she's only 1 back of 3rd all-time.
Scoring
This was the worst scoring window the Hokies have had all year (no shock considering it was against all Quad 1 opponents). That being said, 68 wasn't a bad average. Wenzel, Baker, and Freelon all led the way with double figures (16, 14.25, and 11.75 respectively). Suffren, Nelson, and Daley put up excellent supporting numbers, with 9.5, 7.25, and 6.25 ppg, respectively. Swanson (1.66), Wells (0.75), and Trent (0.5) all got in on the action as well.
Rebounding
Freelon was the lone double figure rebounder, with 10.75-per over the last 4 games. Baker pulled down 7.25 to be the only other Hokie to average at least 2 per quarter. Suffren (3.25), Wenzel and Nelson (3), and Daley (2.5) all averaged at least 1 per half. Wells (0.75) and Trent (0.25) rounded out the rebounders. As with scoring, rebounding was at its worst over this frame.
Assists
A 52:52 ATO wasn't great, but it, at least, wasn't dead last like scoring and rebounding, though steals were at their worst (24). Nelson was rocking with a 16:3 AATO, as was Freelon (6:-1) and Wells (4:-1). Wenzel accrued 11 assists, but those were offset by 15 turnovers.
Experience/Depth
There's not much to say here that hasn't already been said. The Hokies play 4 for at least 30 minutes (Freelon, Wenzel, Nelson, Baker), 2 at 20 (Daley and Suffren), 1 for at least 10 (Wells), and 3 to at least see some time (Swanson, Trent, Petersen). I really have to feel sorry for Petersen, though. In the season opener, she was the first off the bench. Now she's 5th.
Next Two
Like the men, the last home game will be against a Quad 3 opponent (Georgia Tech) and closing out on the road against Quad 1 UVA.
Prediction
Hokies take care of business on Senior night and go on the road to finish the season sweep against UVA.
2-0 moves the Hokies to 22-8 (12-6). Taking a shot here to say Syracuse and UNC drop 2 each (@ NC State and @ Notre Dame – @ UVA and vs Duke, respectively). Syracuse falls to 12-6 as does UNC. NC State takes 3rd in the conference, while UNC takes 4th due to having beaten both Tech and Syracuse. The blown backcourt call, improper resetting of team fouls, et cetera costing Tech the double-bye.
Duffy moves to 41 total wins and 21 conference wins through 2 years.

Comments
Senior night for the men was today against Wake. 9pm BC game will a minimal late night crowd so Senior night moved to maximize attendance for Tobi. Will miss those high flying dunks and rebounds where his hands are above everybody else's hands trying for the rebound.
UNC game could be very different teams. There is the UNC with a healthy Caleb Wilson. Then there is the one where he is still out with fractured non-shooting hand.
19.8 points 2.7 assists and 9.4 rebounds.
Since his injury the Tarheels are 2-2 with a game against #21 Louisville before they play us. They lost to Miami in the game the injury happened in the first half of. Beat a woeful Pitt team. Lost to NC St by 24. Beat Syracuse. Louisville is favored currently and its at Chapel Hill. The Hokies have shown they can play to their competition so I expect next Saturday to be close if Wilson isnt ready to go. I actually hope UNC beats Louisville so Hubert David doesnt feel forced to bring Wilson back against us.
As for the women, sit Wenzel more. We are so much more efficient offensively with her off the floor. Yeah, yeah, I know...she leads the team in scoring. She also by far leads the team in wasted possessions. She shouldnt be on the floor 30+ mpg. Get her to about 25 mpg. Rely on Nelson, Suffren and Daley as the guards more.
Hokies now 5-2 in Quad 2 and 3-0 in Quad 3 as FSU beat Clemson to bump up our loss there.
Our win and FSU win moved us back into First Four Out for Lunardi. Still work to do.
I think we have to win out and even with that, I'd say its 50/50. Beat BC and one of UVA or UNC (preferably UVA) and that might squeak us in depending on if other bubble teams have some hiccups
