The Big XII brought to you by Caffeine and Guarana

Monster BigXII

The Big XII has announced that going forward both Football and Basketball will now be known as "Monster Energy Big XII Football" and "Monster Energy BigXII Basketball" respectively. Reportedly this will be worth about $20 Million annually and each member will receive $1 Million/yr. as part of the agreement.

Per Commissioner Yormark:
"Monster Energy is a global, culturally relevant brand that aligns with who we are and where we're going. Together, we will bring the Big 12 to new audiences, expand our reach, and deliver innovative experiences for our fans."

Other than some crafted corporate PR gibberish, I'm not totally sure what the above is supposed to actually mean, I have high doubts that someone buying Monster Energy drinks by the case in Maine is all of a sudden going to become a BigXII fan just because they are now a sponsor of the Conference.

The other thing that is surprising to me is that $1 Mil seems like a pretty paltry amount to receive for a gimmicky corporate branding and jersey patches. We often complain about VT's Nike deal (which certainly isn't great) but in the Pay for Play world, $1 Mil/yr barely makes a dent.

Interested to know other's opinions on this. Jersey Patches I think we all knew were coming. The Corporate Branding (particularly before the Conference naming) seems a bit ridiculous to me. "BigXII Football brought to you by Monster Energy," seems more appropriate and less overtly tacky. And the payout doesn't seem that great.

If the ACC gets Corporate Branding.....what are some likely title sponsors??? Bojangles? Spurtle??
