We needed the sweep last week and couldn't do it. Beating Liberty would gain a bit of cred and a nice morale boost. Losing either game to UNCG would be devastating.

I hear you but playing two games against the 140th RPI team who is 20-28 only hurts you this late in the season win or lose. It will cancel out the Liberty win even if we win both.

Weather on Saturday and Sunday are looking mostly clear. Also I rather them play the home games than have a weekend off to get cold. Win these two games. Cancel Marshall. Beat Clemson twice

Is there any reason to think the game might actually get cancelled? Aside from schedule/perception appearance, why would we want that? I don't follow baseball much so genuinely curios.

Quite a few other tournament bubble teams have already canceled games like these because of how big a role RPI plays in getting into the tournament and with the Hokies currently the last team in by most projections playing Marshall, who is 179th in RPI, is a lose/lose proposition. Win and still hurts our RPI, lose and likely ends our season. Do I think Szefc will cancel it? No.

Same feeling as you. When it is considered better to be a bunch of p___ies and not play than to actually play the games, it is a major turn off for me. Let's be honest, even if the team is the last one in, it's not like they are likely to do much. Play the games, win the games and be men about it rather than trying to duck things. I'd rather we play, win and not make it than duck out of games to squeak in and (probably) get pummeled anyway.

They need to fix RPI. Winning a game should not have a negative impact to RPI. Losing, sure. But winning should never be negative but thats how its set up. Its the same reason Softball probably wont host.

Beating a team that has a higher RPI, or losing to a team with a lower RPI are what should matter. Beating a lower team or losing to a higher team should have no impact. This isn't like football where there's a relative limited number of games to assess how good a team is. This is baseball - let the records do the talking.

Winning 9-8 but doing our best to lose another one to UNCG. 3 Hokies errors have allowed two unearned runs. Stieg only lasted 2.1 innings. Truitt has hit two homers off the Hokies to make it 8 homers for UNCG in not even two games.

If the baseball schedules were set and confirmed prior to the start of the season... then I don't care who you are (Hokies included), if you cancel games with the intent to improve your data and metrics to reach post-season play, then all cancelled games should count as a quad 4 loss! My 2 cents.

Unfortunately the NCAA the last five years though has rewarded the cancelations and set a precedent. In the last three weeks there have been almost 40 non-weather cancelations. The one that got the most attention was #2 UNC doing it with Wingate and expected to do it with UNCW tomorrow trying to stay in contention for the #1 Seed.
NCAA needs to fix RPI rather than issuing these wishy washy threats.

Shitty part for Marshall is apparently our game had been designated Senior Night for the Herd and they arent able to make it up another night as they have no more home games.

We should have played the game. Even without knowing this, we should have played. Knowing it now, it really is in poor taste to cancel. Especially after they gave us that last football game to be bowl eligible. We definitely owe them one. I hope we did not know this was the case for Marshall's team.

Yeah, I'm all for playing the game while understanding why we won't. Totally the fault of the selection committee in my eyes. If beating a shitty team will cause you to lose favor, shitty teams will have nobody to play except other shitty teams. I'm pretty much just permanently pissed at the NCAA anyway, this stuff doesn't help.
This is Marshall, folks, and as much as I laughed at their football players carrying Leftwich down the field rather than bringing in a sub, when we don't play them, I'm going to root for them. We have historic ties to that program and shouldn't piss in their punch.

Yeah seeing alot of posts saying going forward if NCAA wont fix RPI then schools will be forced to just not schedule the mid-week games because most are against local low RPI teams that are played due to convenience rather than SoS. Could make it damn near impossible for mid-major to get an at large bid going forward even if they have the talent.

Probably need to go 3 and 0 this week. The only loss the team can afford is against Liberty
Especially with other bubble teams canceling these games to avoid the RPI hits. Cough cough NC State
Have to agree. Time for the push, if we have it in us.

We didn't need the sweep. We needed two wins. And we got them. D1 Baseball moved Tech into the last four in
Lead 5-0 in the 6th
Trying not to jinx anything
Damn. Went 6 and 2/3rd of no hit ball. Hokies up 7-0
Uh oh. 7-3
8-4 going to bottom of the 8th
Crowley sets down 3,4,5 ...1,2,3
Was some really good pitching. Plus a call that helped us🤣
Wow that Gates appeal was fucking terrible
Umps want to go home🤣
Hokies win 8-4
Great job closing it out by Crowl
Now I am praying for lightning all weekend in Blacksburg
No. I'm going to the game Sunday
I hear you but playing two games against the 140th RPI team who is 20-28 only hurts you this late in the season win or lose. It will cancel out the Liberty win even if we win both.
Well. Cancel the Marshall game. We already know they can beat us.
Cancel that too, 179th in RPI.

I HATE that this is the state of sports... manipulating a set schedule to bolster a metric and twist the narrative.
College sports across the board needs to be fixed.

Baseball is losing 13-9 in the 7th. Probably have to sweep Clemson now if tech does lose this game
16-10😑
All your fault, told me not to pray for lightning storms. Told you they needed to cancel.
With the way they are pitching today. It wasn't going to matter🤣 this staff still is not good
Just threw away all the RPI positive of beating Liberty
Yeah. Probably gotta win tomorrow and go 4 and 0 next week. And win a acc tournament game or two
We need to win the ACCT to get in. I dont see any other way. Even if we do we, we need to pray that our bullpen doesn't blow-up on selection sunday.

Now up 11-8 after a 2 run Homer by Grube
Won 11-9. Gave up 27 runs in two games to the 139th team in RPI. UGLY
Marshall game has been canceled
And then they put this out....

Have to assume we did but proceeded anyway. No way Marshal wouldnt have put that back at us.

Baseball is up 5-0 going to the 7th
