I need advice. I was planning on capping the big weekend by taking my wife tubing at NRJ Tuesday while recovering from Monday but they are closed that day. Does anyone have other suggestions? Should I buy my own tubes and put in somewhere else? Are there other places for enjoying the river?

There is a tubing business on the James River in Buchanan, VA (about an hour away) that may be open Tuesday. We checked it out. Good setup.
There is another place near Pearisburg, but they are shutting down for season after Labor Day.
You could buy your own tubes and float in Radford, but would need to park a vehicle at your exit point.
Here's what we do. You need two cars and your own tubes. Park one car at the end on River Rd just up stream from the Eggleston Rd bridge. Then drive to where the company that rents tubes ends their float. Park on the opposite side of the road. That's not their property. They will usually come and bitch at you if you are on their property and not renting from them. Just walk 100 feet or so down the road and put in.
That's a bummer! My mom's cousin owns NRJ, so that's the only place I've ever gone tubing in the NRV (my grandparents live like 8 houses up the road).
I just went kayaking on the new out of Pembroke with New River Outdoors last weekend. Not sure if they do tubing but you basically float around pearisburg then they pick you up. Only cost about $40 for the trip. Not sure if they run after labor day or not.
In my experience the tubing places all shut down around labor day.
You'll need your own tubes and two cars but put in at Riverview Park and get out at the Dedmon Center in Radford. Don't know what parking is like (permit-wise) at Radford since we normally do this during the summer so you may want to look into it before you go.
