Fourth Annual TKP Tailgate to Benefit Women's Resource Center of NRV

Join us before Hokies-Tigers kicks off.

The 2017 edition of The Key Play tailgate is set for Saturday. College GameDay's in town. And the defending national champs are too. Virginia Tech vs. Clemson is on deck, and there's a battle between undefeated teams to prepare for.

We're flying the flag and dropping a pin in Lot 18. Find us in the corner by the guard rail and the creek (parking map, Google map). Look for the TKP logo in the sky.

Some grilled food will be provided, but it's bound to run out. If you're planning on staying for a while, please bring something to contribute and share; whether that's food, snacks, drinks, or tailgating supplies (chairs, trash bags, plastic cups, cornhole, side tables, plasticware, etc...). The festivities begin at noon, and will wrap up around 6:30 PM. Expect a fully dipped time. Drop a note in the comments if you plan on attending.

Most importantly, it's not just a banging party, but a charity event. If you plan to come by at all, even to say hello for a minute, you must bring $5 or more in cash or gift cards (Kroger or Wal-Mart preferred). That bumps to $10 if you have a real world job. Contributions will benefit The Women's Resource Center Of The New River Valley. The Women's Resource Center is a federally recognized 501(c)3 and Pam Beale (administration wrcnrv [DOT] org) would be happy to provide whatever written tax documentation is requested.

In 2015 the tailgate group raised $1,024.03, a testament to the generosity of Hokie Nation and TKPers. The goal this year is to double that goodness up.

*For full disclosure, The Key Play is not associated with The Women's Resource Center. Your donations will be made directly to The Women's Resource Center and won't pass through The Key Play \ Orange and Maroon Media, LLC.

Please tailgate responsibly.

Im gonna try to stop by for a bit, its been a while since ive been in the burg so ive made a ton of promises to see a ton of people so im not sure how long ill be able to stay

Taylor, looking desperately throws it deep..HAS A MAN OPEN DANNY COALE WITH A CATCH ALL THE WAY DOWN TO THE FIVE!!!!....hes still open

My brother and I will be there I believe. We will definitely bring something. Maybe some homebrew from Dad's kegs but that wouldn't be more than a growler. At the very least we'll bring something to grill. Looking forward to it!

I have no idea why my username is VT_Warthog.

Arkansas blew a 24-0 lead in the Belk Bowl.

Everyone, I will be there all day (literally) so if you want to come earlier please feel free. With Gameday going on, we figure most people will be going to that. However if you aren't planning on hitting that up, we will have it on in the parking lot. Also any questions at all please feel free to email me: wasknick at Gmail.

I love a good nap. Sometimes that's all that's getting me out of bed in the morning.

Might come and hang out for a bit

First beer's on me

I found TKP after two rails from TOTS then walking back to my apartment and re-watching the 2012 Sugar Bowl. I woke up the next day with this username.

Will y'all need extra tables? I have a 5ft tailgating table that I can bring and a few extra camping chairs if need be.

It was a catch!

You wanna come to a super soft birthday party?

If you have them and can get them there, I would say go for it. Worst case is they sit in the back of a truck, but the more table space the better.

I love a good nap. Sometimes that's all that's getting me out of bed in the morning.

I plan on swinging by for a bit

Edit: I'm assuming that if we bring a check, to make it out to the Women's Research Center? Will there be a Venmo option? I'm a stupid millennial and I probably won't have cash

Yep, checks work. I don't know that Venmo will be an option for this. Yall youngins.

I love a good nap. Sometimes that's all that's getting me out of bed in the morning.

I'm also interested if there are options for donating via CC... no cash or checks here. I'll figure something out otherwise.

For anyone that wants to come but doesn't have the fortune of a Lot 18 pass, there is a convenient drop off zone right across from us. We use it all the time for people to unload before they go park. Then just either walk or catch a ride back to the tailgate.

I love a good nap. Sometimes that's all that's getting me out of bed in the morning.

For anyone without a parking pass and who doesn't mind a walk, I like to park for free in the way back of Foxridge and just walk the trails to the lots. Lot 18 is one of the first ones you come across this way. It's maybe 10-15 minute walk

Is there a way for us that won't be in the burg to donate to them but still have it under the TKP umbrella?

Warning- Filter lost.

"Look at this... This is just spectacular.... These people are losing their minds"

I'm willing to open my Venmo like I'm Uncle Chaps and then transfer/cash out the sum to give to TKP to give to TWRC.

There's donation information on their website: https://www.wrcnrv.org/donate/, and Pam Beale (her contact information is in the original post), is the best contact for specifics.

To piggy-back off of Joe's comment, you can donate with your credit card via PayPal through the link he provided. I was able to put in the PayPal notes section that I was donating as part of The Key Play's tailgate group.

So what's my donation requirement I have two Clemson alum with me and my wife? In all seriousness I hope to be able to stop by to contribute and bring snacks/backup grilling material for at least some of you good people.

It is highly encouraged to bring Clemson fans and show them how we roll. We generally find several from the opposing team and befriend them. All about that Hokies Respect.

I love a good nap. Sometimes that's all that's getting me out of bed in the morning.

So if I'm with three Clemson fans, am I still allowed in?

I'll be there! My brother's wife is making me a Billdozer shirt. I'm so excited.

We will be doing a power hour during the boring games in the early afternoon.

I love a good nap. Sometimes that's all that's getting me out of bed in the morning.

I'll be making the drive in from (well, see username) for my first TKP tailgate appearance. It's my birthday weekend (no gifts, please), so I'm making the trek in sans wife and 3 kids for some Hokie action! I grew up in Christiansburg and went to games as a kid in the 80s (times were lean). I went to VT my freshman year only, but my blood runs O&M.

I'll be bringing my designated driver, errrrr, sister. This is me at work right now trying to focus....

At this point I'll come up there just to tailgate, do GameDay, tailgate more and watch the game in town or something. But have to keep things in priority, family first.

Amateur superstar and idiot extraordinaire.

Will be based at the tailgate next to TKP along the guard rail, should get there in the morning. Will have a flat top grill making breakfast type things/whatever and a pizza oven open for general use. TKPer's welcome to use it. Will have pizza dough for general consumption until I don't. Bring your own ingredients.

We're bringing a pizza oven too, so hopefully we can crank out some pizzas. We've been trying to figure out the best way to make/transport/keep the dough during the day, do you have any suggestions?

I start making my dough tonight with the starter (search on poolish). I will mix the main dough up tomorrow morning, letting the mixer have it for 15 minutes or so. Drop onto a well floured cutting board, work a bit, and divide into pizza sized balls. My target is 260g per ball. I will then put the individual balls in a proofing box and cold rise till Saturday morning. Throw the proofing boxes in the car and head to Blacksburg, they will keep the dough from drying out or insects finding it.

There are plenty of pizza dough recipes out there, if you don't have a mixer you can use a food processor (or by hand, very cathartic). Without proofing box, you could do the cold rise in a covered bowl, then divide and store in Ziploc bags that has been lightly coated with olive oil.

I would come but my anti socialists side of me is like oh don't do it

Serious question: for anyone driving to Blacksburg on Saturday (i.e. no refrigeration) and walking to the tailgate (i.e. nothing too heavy), what's the best thing to bring?

"Our job as coaches is to influence young people's lives for the better in terms of fundamental skills, work ethic, and doing the right thing. Every now and again, a player actually has that effect on the coaching staff." Justin Fuente on Sam Rogers

Not that I'll be in Lot 18 but Martins chips are always a solid tailgate addition.

"That kid you're talking to right there, I think he played his nuts off! And you can quote me on that shit!" -Bud Foster

Anything easily sharable works. We have people bring all kinds of different things. I would just say something you enjoy and think other people would too. Anything from appetizers to desserts.

I love a good nap. Sometimes that's all that's getting me out of bed in the morning.

I'm planning on coming and hanging out a good portion of the time. Is there anything specific that I can bring, other than booze? I was thinking about smoking a pork butt if that would be cool with you guys.

Also, is anyone else going to try and do the Gameday experience or is it too much trouble and not enough of a payoff? I've heard good and bad from people.

Please! We love BUTTS. Historically I have smoked butts during these tailgates. I chose not to this time because I have been so dead by game time that I couldn't enjoy it as much as I wanted to. I'm taking this year off but the BUTTS will make a return.

I love a good nap. Sometimes that's all that's getting me out of bed in the morning.

Will one nine pounder be enough or should I do two? I'll also bring some of my homemade Carolina vinegar sauce. Maybe someone else can bring buns.

Do you guys have a TV at the tailgate? I'd really like to watch Gameday if I'm not going to go to the actual location.

Absolutely we do. Several of us are planning on just watching Gameday from the parking lot. In my opinion one Butt will probably be fine, as there is plans for alot of other food. But I say Chefs Decision.

I love a good nap. Sometimes that's all that's getting me out of bed in the morning.

Sounds good. If you're going to be there that early, I'll plan on getting to the tailgate at 9am with a butt, some sauce , and a few buns.

I'm looking forward to a good time.

This subthread reminds me of a shirt I got at Pappys Smokehouse in STL

Can/Will never go wrong with the vinegar sauce...im NC born&bred with an affinity for all BBQ, but eastern NC is near&dear

The wife and I will be swinging by. What can we bring to help out the most? We'll bring beer/drinks, but can bring food as well.

Long time listener...first time poster

At this point I do not know of anything specific. If I think of something we need closer to game time, I will put out an SOS on here.

I love a good nap. Sometimes that's all that's getting me out of bed in the morning.

It bums me out that the only one of these I've been able to attend was the inaugural one for the 2013 Maryland game. Wish I could be there!

Not the bagman VT deserves, but the bagman VT needs right now.

My friend and I will look to join at some point!

So we have a Pinata, it came in the mail today. If anyone wants to bring some Airplane Bottle to contribute to fill it, get them out there. We did this in 2014 and it was crazy.

I love a good nap. Sometimes that's all that's getting me out of bed in the morning.

Uhhhh this is amazing. What time will this take place/What time do you need the airplane bottles to be there in order to contribute?

This would probably be a 5pm activity or somewhere around that. Airplane bottles just go in through a small fill hole, so they can get added right before people start whacking at it. I partook in this last time...I think I passed away that night.

I love a good nap. Sometimes that's all that's getting me out of bed in the morning.

Are we going to take turns getting you to the stadium this year?

My plan is to be a responsible adult this time. Everyone else may partake in the death of the Pinata. I may just pocket a few for halftime refreshment.

I love a good nap. Sometimes that's all that's getting me out of bed in the morning.

You know what they say about well laid plans....

Liquor may be quicker, but beer keeps me all the way here.

I love a good nap. Sometimes that's all that's getting me out of bed in the morning.

That's fantastic! Remind me to NOT partake in this. If I start drinking airplane bottles of liquor I may pass out in the bushes again. I'd like to actually remember Saturday's game.

I found TKP after two rails from TOTS then walking back to my apartment and re-watching the 2012 Sugar Bowl. I woke up the next day with this username.

i'm pretty sure breaking open the liquor pinata at the TKP tailgate in 2014 was the happiest moment of my dad's life, and i'm perfectly fine with that.

@historyhokie.bsky.social

Will be heading up for the game this weekend. Looking forward to meeting some of you guys for the first time. Will be bringing my college roommate from Clemson but he isn't a clemson fan.

I gotta talk to my family, but I will probably drop by and might make it my main tailgate plan, bottle of Wild Turkey in tow.

Looks like these will be making an appearance with me at the TKP tailgate Saturday *eyes emoji*

F'in Andre'. Dude, the ladies better have been drinking that and second, buy them something better than that shit.

For mimosas, and I'm pretty sure the ladies bought it themselves. That Andre is where its at man. 4 bucks a bottle, high quality buzz.

I love a good nap. Sometimes that's all that's getting me out of bed in the morning.

high quality buzz

high quality headache

I figured it was for Mimosas. My daughter and her roommates would drink a bottle of Andre each while tailgating. Starting out with a couple Mimosas and finish with straight out the bottle.

Looking forward to it!

New to the boards, but have been reading/been thoroughly entertained for a while.
Came in for the Clemson game. Not a big fan of seeing all these tigers walking around campus but hoping to see them crying after the game tomorrow.
My husband and I were looking for a tailgate tomorrow since our friends are too busy dealing with their babies. We want to stop by and hang out. If there's anything we can bring let us know. Looking forward to the pregame.
Let's Goooooo!

Will be there with the wife and a bottle of Maker's. Be ready.

Thanks everyone for a great day of tailgating! Hopefully we will see everyone around at some of the last few home games.

I love a good nap. Sometimes that's all that's getting me out of bed in the morning.

Thanks to all who entertained and fed my dog yesterday. My wife said she had a blast, and she's still passed out on the floor from all the excitement.

Sorry I couldn't make it to hang with all of you, but some out-of-town family obligations required my presence. Next time!

"Exit light..."

Wait, your wife is still passed out on the floor?

That must have been one helluva tailgate

Oh man, that's an ambiguous use of pronouns, isn't it?

Wife is alert and had fun. Dog is passed out haha.

Didn't make it over *frown and shame* we didn't get out to the Lion's Club lot until like 1:30 and it was relatively bumping. Also! The TKP sign from Gameday, when I was carrying stuff back to my friends jeep before going in, I saw it leaned up on a vehicle...didn't have time to inquire, but who was that?

Amateur superstar and idiot extraordinaire.

I would like to know that myself.

went looking for yall around 6 and couldnt find you. Hope it was a good time!

Sorry we missed you. Things were starting to wind down around 6pm, but I was there until around 7. Everyone was anxious to get in the stadium, and it sure as hell was full before the Skydivers came in.

I love a good nap. Sometimes that's all that's getting me out of bed in the morning.

The student section was mostly full well over an hour before the game. It was awesome. I wish we could've stayed longer, but it was great to meet some of you guys! Hope we can get by there again soon.

Same story for me, took me forever to find lot 18 and it was after 6 by the time I did. Didn't meet anyone, just saw the flag.

Keep us in mind next year, I am sure we will be doing this again. And if anyone is there for any more home games, alot of us are there every week. Always feel free to come by.

I love a good nap. Sometimes that's all that's getting me out of bed in the morning.

Do you fly the TKP flag for every tailgate? I'm contemplating trying to snag some tix to UNC or Duke and might stop by to say hello. The flag makes it really easy to find you :)
