Mike is the only one allowed to tweet at recruits.
or any former player who a recruit says is their favorite athlete
Daaaaaaamn
Didn't even see him at the game today
I saw him after with his apparel truck between cassell and lot 1.
Not just WITH his apparel truck, but IN it. Seeing a line of people waiting to walk into a truck to have Vick sign an autograph was surreal as hell. You brought the man TO the stadium to help with a recruiter. Bring him IN for God's sake.
He had a flight delay.
Not to mention Tech didn't "bring" any of the former players back, they did it on their own time and dime.
Not only that but I happened to stop by when Devyn Ford and his family were walking by, to which MV7 stopped what he was doing to talk with them for a while. Pretty awesome
Man I wonder if this was coordinated with the staff behind closed doors or if MV7 just did it on his own. I'm assuming the former but obviously that would never be admitted to.
I don't think it would matter either way. Mike is not on the Tech payroll. He can say what he wants.
Not if he donates he can't.
True enough, but the wording of what he said is not lobbying for a commitment
nope but it gives a feeling that Ford has already told MV7 that he plans on going to VT.
I saw it mentioned in a previous thread, but I guess this means that we shouldn't look into Vick's banner disappearing?
So I was told at the game that is was "stolen" taken by fans. Was informed this morning it was damaged in a storm and taken down to be replaced. So one of those is real reason.
hmm one of those reasons sounds like something a drunk fan would definitely bs, the other sounds like something the school would definitely bs to cover up the other. I'm torn.
At any rate, they'd better fucking replace it in a timely manner.
My "sauces" weren't fans.
I also think the media person and how they implied their tweet about Vick not being on sideline and banner being gone did a disservice to the school on a important recruting visit.
Care to embed?
He later tweeted out what happened to Vick/the banner, but some of the people who retweeted this did not retweet that update...
This, unfortunately, is a small sample of what has happened to journalism with the rise of social media. Instead of getting the facts and then reporting a story, people want to make observations and draw conclusions before anything factual is known. The the interwebz takes it and runs with it - before you know it, you have started something that amounts to nothing.
What conclusion did he draw?
Tying two separate occurrences together (Vick not being on the field and no banner) without context/more info to suggest something may have happened. I don't think he was intentionally trying to start anything but just saying that people are so quick to snap a picture and post something on social media these days making a story out of nothing.
He is a student reporter. He crowdsourced a question. If he could have gotten to the press conference, maybe he asks a VT spokesman.
Everyone was wondering where MV7 was. People around me were asking why the banner was gone. There was chatter.
He got the answer we were looking for from Pete Moris and another VT official. Sounds like he did a good job of actually ending speculation.
I know I've seen him in press conferences before why couldn't he get to this one? He also came to a conclusion while asking the question. A question would have been:
Exactly. Not tying two things together stating "I don't know what this means, but..." with the implication that these might be related/something happened. That just stirs up rumors and speculation.
You guys are really making so much of a tiny tweet that was resolved in minutes.
The same argument could be made that VT could have said before the spring game - MV7 will be late (they knew) and that the flag was damaged (they knew that too).
And fireman, due to all of the fans blocking the field he couldn't get down to the press room.
I guess I'll just agree to disagree since outside of like 16 people no one even cared about the tweet. You guys have fun getting all mad about a VT student asking/posing a question. So sorry it ruined the weekend for VT football.
Yeah well it isn't their job to protect and promote VT. And we are talking about a student here anyways.
He noticed two separate events and pointed them out. It's an interesting situation. I don't blame him at all.
VT could have issued a statement in seconds and there would be no damage to the weekend (and there wasn't anyways, considering I'm sure every recruit visiting knew MV7 was there and it's not like it went viral).
Fireman, you need to be beating the drum for MORE media access, not less. The media can get the fan base excited, interested, and connected to the team. This spring football was a complete dud. I remember the years of reading Bitter's practice reports every night on Twitter. Multiple scrimmages to attend. We knew what was going on, who was excelling, etc. I have spent far less time this spring on VT football than a very long time, even in the bad Beamer years.
If people aren't hearing about the team (during the end of the donation year, when season tickets are on sale) they are far less likely to donate or buy tickets - things that we desperately need.
The access to the team is really poor right now, and we as fans should be upset about it.
I never argued media shouldn't have access, I'd like to see more practice access. But this was a tweet written in the press box wondering outloud if Vick not being on the sidelines and his banner being down were related.
I agree. Feels like he was throwing the school and team under the bus for personal gain and retweets.
Isn't that just called journalism in the social media age?
The two being related doesn't have to insinuate something negative. I noticed the banner was missing, and knew Vick was supposed to be in town; so I assumed they were going to do some kind of recognition using the banner or maybe even use it for promotional purposes at his clothing line tailgate. I agree with your general sentiment toward journalism but dont believe this particular case falls in to that category.
Did anyone else let notice before the game that they seated all the recruits except D Ford and they led him on the field to talk to Coach Fu? Special treatment all day, I like it.
it was his official visit
MV7 looks tiny next to QP
To give context. I met Michael at a golf tournament a few years ago...he looked like a linebacker in person. He was intimidatingly big. Quincy is going to be a BIG dude once he gets into a college weight program.
He is taller and more broad shouldered than Darryl Tapp an NFL lineman.
This is the first thing that came to my mind when I saw this picture. Hopefully the D across from him his first game starting will have the same reaction
The stormtrooper look with our new unis looks slick.
So this means Ford is going to a team VT will be playing at home in 2020?
VT recruiting:
You underestimate the power of MV7. You acquiesce to defeat so easily. Are you willing to put $$ down that he won't choose us??
Am I willing to put anything financial on the whims of an 18 year old male? Of course not, I'm not insane. I hope it works out. We go down this road every year.
i know i know... don't at recruits. butttt i talked to ford a little after the game and just asked him how he enjoyed his visit, told him how excited we were to see him in the maroon and orange, hyped him up a little and my son took a picture with him. he was standing about 5 feet from QP after the game and QP was getting so much love, i wish i could have made an announcement like hey everyone when you get done with QP come show this guy some love because hes the other part of the future we need. i don't think most people knew what ford looked like or who he was.
QP is signed as a recruit Ford isnt. I know I avoided talking to unsigned recruits.
true. i didn't drop off the bag nick saban gave me so i don't think i committed any recruiting violations by asking how his day was and telling him how excited we would be to see him play for us. im just a fan for all intensive purposes. on a sidenote i tried to holler at you before the game from the stands (or atleast who i thought was you haha) but i don't think you heard me. when is the post going up giving a run down of your time?
I didn't know y'all actually wanted that, figured people would be pissed. I'll gladly type up my day.
I think most of us would be interested in reading a write-up of the day. A bit jealous perhaps, but interested no less.
a little jealous forsure but id love to hear about how it went!
haha hokieman07 beat me to it by 20 seconds.
Frankly, I'm pissed you haven't written it already.
What's that... Oh, what type of apple am I eating? Envy. It's called, Envy.
Ok it's done, ignore the overweight guy making strange faces, I still have trouble with selfies.
"For all intents and purposes" my dude
Give him a break, it's a doggy dog world.
Yep, quite often these things are just a blessing in the skies.
I'm sure he could care less.
Exactly, irregardless of what people think.
Supposably, Irregardless isn't even a word!
I, too, have heared that aint word.
its actually da skies. fwiw
Lol, you don't even bother to capitalize at the beginning of each sentence. You must be quite the energetic typist (not an attack).
Im so used to everything doing it for me to be honest. my outlook, my phone, my work computer, im lazy when it comes to typing. Ill try and do better. now look yall got me spell checking and everything and still cant get it right. grammar, it'll get after ya.
I did and thought the same thing. I think it's nice to be a recruit and have a fan base excited about you. Shows how passionate the fan base is.
...and this is why we needed Devyn Ford fatheads at the game
