Mini Plan v Inidividual Game Tickets for Notre Dame

I have season tickets but will need 3 additional tickets for the Notre Dame game.

I passed on the Beamer Mobile Pass.

However, now there is another mini-plan with the Notre Dame (plus two other home games except Miami) that will go on sale to the Hokie Club (if available at my level). I called and was told there is no way to choose your seats for any of the games. They are just randomly assigned.

On August 20, 2018, individual game tickets (if available) go on sale. I was able to snag tickets to the Clemson game last year doing that.

I would like to choose the seats if possible which is why I am leaning towards holding out until August 20.

Anyone in same boat or have any information on how the "random" tickets get assigned in those mini-plans?

I would expect they're assigned as 'best available' based on first-order, first-serve. 'Best available' being the ticket office interpretation of best.

Also it's my understanding that pricing is now zoned within the stadium, and since these mini-plans are all fixed price they're probably all upper east / upper south, where the big open gaps tend to be.

Maybe call back and ask which sections you might wind up in?

Good point on calling to ask which sections I might wind up in. I wonder how they square the mini-plan availability with the individual game ticket selection. I doubt they can answer that over the phone but will double-check.

Will share whatever I found out in case it is useful to others.

I'd be interested in knowing this as well. A quick online look has Notre Dame tickets on sale in the $160 and up range. So if the other two tickets are $50 face value it looks like you're giving about $125 for a Notre Dame ticket. Not horrible but if it's totally random I'm not sure it's as attractive. Let us know what you find out.

Haven't purchased a mini plan yet, so I can't confirm how VT does it, but I recently went through a lengthy interview process with a software company that optimizes ticket sales for sporting events and concerts, where I learned all about new ticketing methods. Typically, when selling tickets without seats, stadiums will not assign seats until day of (or until a sellout is confirmed). This way, they can charge a premium for tickets with an assigned seat (same concept as when airlines will charge more to let you pick your seat, vs assigning it at the door).

I imagine the athletic dept puts the mini-plan on sale before the individual tickets in order to sell more tickets and get better attendance at the less exciting games.

Anyways, without any knowledge of how VT works, and assuming they work the same as most vendors, I'd recommend either buying individual tickets from the school or secondary market if you want to pick your seats.

Thanks! That was interesting insight and along the lines of what I would have expected.

It's the classic risk versus reward. The secondary market will let me choose my seat but will likely cost me $300 a seat at this point.

There's some really cool stuff that teams are doing. Falcons recently implemented a system where, if there's an empty box, you can 'upgrade' to the box for the second half of the game for a discounted price. A lot of MLB teams will sell access to better seats/sections for discounted prices after the 2nd or 3rd inning. Oregon (I think) implemented a loyalty program where you earn points for every ticket and in stadium purchase. Lots of cool stuff going on.

Just got off the phone. She said that there aren't specifically blocked off but generally they are using Upper East and Upper South for the miniplan. She claimed that during check-out for the mini-plan, I should see be able to see where my seats will be located. I am somewhat skeptical of that but will check later when it opens up to my level of HC.

As may be expected, she recommended getting the mini-plan as she said there is a strong possibility Notre Dame and Miami will sell out through mini-plan and no individual game tickets will be available.

It will show you exactly which seats you get in the check out.

So far the ND games I have are showing up as 507.

And now it looks like it sold out.

I'm on mobile in court right now and I had the mini plan order page up. Had to close out to do some work and reopened and it's gone. Are they already sold out?

Looks that way because I keep getting a message saying no tickets at that price level no matter what other two games I choose.

im having all kinds of issues just logging into my HC membership. I tried to call and do it over the phone but ive been on hold for over 30 min already.

The Orange Mini-Plan - (Notre Dame) is officially sold out.

I'm hoping for individual game tickets, because I need like an additional 6....

"Nooooooooooo!"
~What happened?
"James Franklin to Virginia Tech...."
~Fuck me......*sigh*
"Oh my God.... They're gonna take all our recruits... like WTF bro...."

Also, if they are available, do we have an idea what individual tickets may cost?

I know they changed the face value of games this year. I think Notre Dame is over $100 face value. And I thought they even layered the prices by section but I cannot find that information anywhere at this point.

I'm worried that the individual game tickets if even available will be limited to 2 per account. The Notre Dame mini-plan was limited to 2 seats. I need 3. So may be stuck trying to get them off secondary market.

This and ticket availability if partially why I opted to fork over the cash for a season ticket at the last minute. I know that doesn't help anyone that just needs an individual ticket for the ND game, but I'm glad I don't have to worry about missing a game I really wanted to see.

Well I have a ticket for myself.

My buddy and I split 3 season tickets because our significant others can't/won't go to every game.

But for ND game we both have folks that want to go so we need to supplement our season tickets.

Since the Notre Dame mini-plan has sold out that implies to me that the Notre Dame game is already sold out. And that was before the mini plan went on sale to the public tomorrow.

For Clemson individual game tickets last year and the mini-plans today, you were limited to 2 tickets. So my guess is they will do the same for Notre Dame individual game tickets.

For reference, here are the face values:

edited to add face value map.

Well I just got the orange mini plan for Miami GT and BC. They tell you where your seats are. My seats suck.
