Seminoles Hope "Lethal Simplicity" Leads to a Quick Transition for the Running Game

As the Hokies prepare for their trip south to Doak Campbell Stadium, the Seminoles are undergoing a major transition in offensive philosophy. Under Jimbo Fisher, Florida State ran a complicated, slow-paced, pro-style scheme. Under new head coach Willie Taggart, the Seminoles will be adopting a no-huddle, up-tempo offensive philosophy which is heavily slanted to running the football, utilizing read options, and run pass options (RPOs). The "Gulf Coast Offense" was conceptualized at South Florida (Taggart was head coach there until 2015) and blends the power and isolation run schemes (Stanford influence) with zone blocking, a heavy dose of quarterback reads, and fast pace of play. It's an 11-man attack geared to get playmakers in space to let them do their thing.
