Penn state loses in final minutes to Ohio state

I didn't even get to watch this one but it just feels good seeing the text. Any juicy nuggets?

Franklin burns two timeouts to call a draw play on 4th and 5 to get near field goal range. There was a slew of poor play calls, especially late when it really mattered. PSU really should've won that game.

"What kind of person would throw away a perfectly good dog?"

Wow. I learned some interesting things about penn state in the off-season following tkp recruiting forums. It seems like they are our top competitor. Funny enough it's given me more of an interest in their program.

I just haven't seen people talk about Franklin with a ton of respect outside of his recruiting capabilities.

I'll have to check the game film out some. Can't deny they have a deep and heavy squad there.

I'm marrying into a family of die-hard Penn State fans/alums, so I've been following them for the last couple of seasons. I really like Franklin, but I think he can be a little inconsistent with how he manages games. He's definitely a fantastic recruiter and no nonsense when it comes to expectations.

"What kind of person would throw away a perfectly good dog?"

I don't follow Penn State beyond when they are a marquee game, but tonight Franklin had some terrible play calls. Specifically on 4th and 3, and 4th and 5. As a fan, I will always want you to go for it on 4th and short, but if they kick that field goal, they win.

Ya, if you're talking about that 4th and 3 earlier inside the 20, I don't know why Franklin didn't just take the points there.

"What kind of person would throw away a perfectly good dog?"

It was idiotic

He's a salesman. Not an Xs and Os guy.

Not gonna become the first black coach to win a natty with calls like that...

I didn't care who won the game, but I couldn't believe they took the ball out of McSorely's hands on 4th and 5, when he been Penn State's most dangerous and clutch weapon all game with both his arm and his legs.

It was shocking. I was literally shocked!

Seriously though, that last call made zero sense for exactly the reason you stated. I'd be interested to see if Franklin comments on they would be expecting McSorley to hold on to it. Yeah no shit, they expected that all game and he was still taking care of business.

Fuck them, just because. Actually, I'm just petty and still pissed they stole our 2018 recruits. Yeah I said it, so what. RMFW, that stands for Ryan Mutha Fudging Willis.

Pour some Beer on it

Glad someone came out and said it. Didn't want it in the title except subtlety lol

Ya but I ain't gonna root for Urban fucken Meyer just because we can't keep our guys in state.

Arkansas blew a 24-0 lead in the Belk Bowl.

Preach brotha.

"What kind of person would throw away a perfectly good dog?"

I'm not a big fan of either team, but at least OSU hasn't been stealing recruits from under our nose like Franklin has. That loss couldn't have happened to a better "recruiter" than Franklin. That 4th and 5 play was right out of the Scot Loeffler handbook....haha.

I work in the Harrisburg area with a lot of PSU alums, so I'm glad I won't have to hear them running their collective mouths like I would have had they won.

Also, I didn't know McSorley really wanted to come to VT, but wanted to play QB, not DB, the position we (Frank's staff, I suppose) were recruiting him for. I mean, the guy's a little on the small side, but you can't measure heart and athleticism, and he's got plenty of those. I'm sure he's at least as big as Deshaun Ellis, who I believe may eventually get moved from the QB position here as a result of the numbers game (and his athleticism for other positions), but at least he came here as a QB and got a look under Fuente.

Franklin losing by a point to a playoff caliber team isn't going to change the recruiting landscape in Virginia.

I guess my point is I'm not going to root for a guy who kept a guy who beat his wife on staff and defended him over and over just because we are losing recruits. Blaming someone else for our recruiting issues is dumb.

Why can't we just root against both?

The problem is, it's not stealing if they willingly want to go there to play. Unfortunately, that's on us.

Let's wait on applying the hallowed 'MF' tag until after the Notre Dame game

MV7, MV5, LT3, Grant Wells, Braxton Burmeister, Ryan Willis, Josh Jackson, Jerod Evans, Michael Brewer, Tyrod Taylor, Sean Glennon, and Grant Noel. That's right, UVA. You couldn't beat Grant Noel.

Good point, that was the bourbon and excitement over the Duke win last night🙃🤢

Pour some Beer on it

I was rooting for both teams to lose.

This

But Bane didn't show up to make it happen

Franklin pulled a Pete Carroll and took the ball out of his best player's hands with the game on the line.

If you play it, they will win.

Yeah we really can't shit on other teams this year anymore. They at least choked to a good team. Us? Not so much

Nah, that's not fun. I'm not gonna do that. Suck it Penn State

Just don't let this game distract you from the fact that UVa lost to a 16 seed in the NCAA tourney.

How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Jet Sweep

If Urban Meyer can have selective memory about beatings, so can we. ODU loss, what?

His decision was made after a phone call with longtime Virginia Tech assistant coach Bud Foster. All Foster told him was, "We win. They don't."

Don't know what you're referring to, but I'd rather not compare our coach to Meyer. We've got a better coach than them.

Joke explanation.... The An Ohio State Board of Regents claimed after Meyer was suspended that Meyer suffers from memory loss during important times.

https://www.si.com/college-football/2018/08/22/urban-meyer-zach-smith-oh...

Not comparing Fu to Meyer. I'm pointing out that anOSU is a joke, Meyer is a shithead, and if he can selectively forget about something as bad domestic abuse, then Hokies can selectively forget about the ODU game.

I get it and I'm all for it. But LOLUVA can also make that claim regarding the UMBC debacle. Our ODU debacle wasn't of quite the same magnitude as UVA's, and we have a chance to redeem ourselves and right the ship in the coming weeks, which I think we can do if we play the inspired football that I know we're capable of.

But LOLUVA can also make that claim regarding the UMBC debacle.

You would be correct. When society puts people in power who make statements as dumb as the An Ohio State Board of Regents did, then yes, it opens the door for UVA to have selective memory over their historic loss.

However, since UVA "fans" won't forget the JMU or ODU loss, than we shouldn't forget their UMBC loss.

Thanks for keeping us focused and humble after the ODU loss. I assume you'll be providing this service for the foreseeable future? Keep up the good work.

Franklin blew the game with his "Timecopesque" moves. Then had a post game rant saying "we are not yet elite". Classy guy...kinda seemed like he was blaming the players.

We put the K in Kwality

Franklin put his players in position to fail with that 4th and 5 play call and then blamed them for not succeeding.

I haven't seen another human yet today but I think it's safe to say it'll be a quiet day in State College today

What do you mean "another" human?

Sh!t

He's onto us, boys! Cheese it!

The horse they called "Moon Moon".

(Reference here).

I was there...that idiotic 4th and 5 call took the crowd out of it.

Also, this was my first time at a Penn St game and they have the most insufferable fan base EVER! Snotty, disrespectful, and obnoxious...I'm not a big Ohio State guy either but I was happy to see the Penn St fan base get shut up

Oh you were at the stadium yesterday? *waves hello from my front window*

I went to a game probably 15 years ago the vivist a friend at PSU. I had no dog in the fight so I cheered for PSU. We got yelled at by the fans that we were cheering to hard. They won and left the stadium super pissed that they only won like 19-0. They are arrogant to no end.

Sorry you had a bad experience; mine have all been great up there. Respectful, down-to-earth passionate fans just like us.

"What kind of person would throw away a perfectly good dog?"

It wasnt bad, it was disappointing. I heard great things about PSU and they have a massive stadium. But it was quiet and boring. Coming from WV and then VT it was a huge let down. Tennessee was like that too.

People were polite and very nice while tailgating.

I was replying to Fuller, but glad you had a good time tailgating.

"What kind of person would throw away a perfectly good dog?"

my bad, I can't read inventions it seems.

Dear Pedo State,

Warning: this post occasionally contains strong language (which may be unsuitable for children), unusual humor (which may be unsuitable for adults), and advanced mathematics (which may be unsuitable for liberal-arts majors)..

I started to watch Franklin at Vandy after he stole our recruit on signing day. He may get enough talent to win a national title (after Saban retires). But he will do it without class. He doesnt know how to win gracefully, he doesnt know how to lose gracefully. He's a clown.

Could we avoid the spoiler alert thread titles in the future? Thanks.

Maybe you should avoid football forums if you're worried about discussions of football games and their outcomes

Free Hugh

Or the Internet and TV. It was the biggest game of the day and had a dramatic ending. It was all over the place.

Avoid the Internet? Come on, this is 2018.

Point being, after a big game like that you shouldn't expect to be able to avoid "spoilers" unless you carefully curate a set of completely non-sports-related websites. Of which this definitely isn't one.

Touche, maybe I expect too much curtousy from others.

"What kind of person would throw away a perfectly good dog?"

I was irrationally angry at that 4th&5 play call. I am not a football savant or anything, but that was one moronic decision.

Amateur superstar and idiot extraordinaire.

Agreed. I picture pretty much all fans everywhere with this sort of response:

I was just dumbfounded. I wouldn't have called that play with Barkley in the backfield.

I figured it would be some kind of bootleg with the ball in the QB's hands.

It's the kind of call that gets a team questioning the coaching staff in general. Much like the decision by Pete Carroll to pass the ball on the goalline in the Super Bowl. As a fan who hates State Penn, let's hope the team crumbles in kind.

"When I was growing up, Virginia Tech was a school that was kicking ass and taking names, and it's time we get back to that" - James Franklin

And Franklin trying to go after a PSU fan after the game for saying he should have passed on 4th down shows what an ass he is.

Haha I missed that? Is there a video or link or anything; I want to see that.

"What kind of person would throw away a perfectly good dog?"

The guy seriously said you should have thrown it on 4th and 5. That was it. No name calling, etc.

WOW!!! That's not a good look for a head coach. My gosh, I mean I get it's right after the game and he probably wasn't in the mood for armchair quarterbacks, but geez you gotta let that go. Sure that's not the first or the last time you hear a fan saying something like that.

Thanks for sharing Eddie

"What kind of person would throw away a perfectly good dog?"

and the fan wasn't an obnoxious ass. That was some polite criticism.

I know, he even said I love you coach like 4 times. Don't even want to know how he would handle comments coming from the other 99% of the fan base that's been delving in libations all day and pissed off.

"What kind of person would throw away a perfectly good dog?"

Lmao, thanks EddieVT! That was absolutely freakin hilarious. Helped made my Sunday. Coach Franklin tryna act all tough & badass on his own fan base. More popcorn please.

You know what? Fuck them and fuck .that guy. I'm not a fan of Pitt and Nard-douchy, either, but in their game earlier this year, PSU got a turnover, up 44-6 VERY late in the game, and promptly threw for the endzone. Even against Pitt, that's a dick move by a dick coach, never mind the recruiting issues we seem to have with him. So I hope he gets ROASTED by his fan base and commentators.

He tried to ice a kicker during a last second FG attempt when he was up 55-0 or some score like that. Of course he is going to run the score up against Pitt.

I don't like, nor agree with what Meyer or the administration handled that shit this past summer. But I tend to go a little more with OSU than Pedo State. For one, they're not actively (most of the time) recruiting against us. On the other hand, we've got a number of TKPers on here that are Buckeyes from the '14 & '15 series. More of a connection.

Here is a clip of Franklin post game walking off the field

Franklin to fan

Wow I tried to hit send on this earlier and I guess when I came back I see I just posted

Sorry for repost

Are we sure that's the heckler he's pissed off at? Could there be some other asshat yelling something much more offensive?
