They had former Alabama and NFL player Greg McElroy on the show as a guest. They were talking about prepping for week 1 games and Greg used Virginia Tech as an example of preparing for a huge game and had lot of great things to say about Bud Foster and the defense. He said something go the affect of playing against the lunchpail defense felt like playing against 14 defenders on the field at once. I'll see if I can find a link later today.

McElroy shared that sentiment on the College Football Live podcast when Foster announced his retirement. Paraphrased, but basically Foster won't throw anything too exotic at you, but he attacks you where you're weakest and does it relentlessly. Seemed to have a mountain of respect for him.

This morning on the First Team on Sirius Greg also used Brock Hoffman as an example for the waivers when he was denied but other people were granted.
We gave Alabama one of their toughest games in their undefeated 2009 run with Greg at QB. It's obvious he remembers that opening game against us well.
I once saw an interview with Matt Lienart following the draft and someone asked him, "What is the toughest D you've faced in your career (or something like that)?" He immediately went to the 2004 matchup with VT. He said that VT unit was by far the fasted and most physical D he played against while at USC.
