Good start to September for MY. Would be a huge pull from OKC with a lot of schools close to home
Summary of current offers. Young and staff getting after it with 6 offers out to top 100 players just for 2020
OFFERS
Walker's list looks like a which does not belong question (solely based on location) and then the others are all in the top 100 which means the big guys are sniffing around.
So out of those who should we get our hopes up for/who do we have a realistic chance at pulling in? I can't get behind the crystal ball hype as all those guys change their prediction as soon as they hear where the athlete is going.
Chris Arvin has an update on 247
Yea, the other 4 schools don't belong because they don't play in the ACC.
Impressive list of Centers and Small Forwards. Coach Young's teams are going to look very different than Hokie MBB of the past. I'm excited for the season to start! Yes, there will be some growing pains, but we have some solid talent and will shock a few teams this year.
With the new monthly recruiting threads (for both sports), I think it would be helpful to post a list of commits and maybe a list of prospects who have us in their "top 5" in the OP.
Got it updated
So we're sticking with CMYBALL, huh?
Would Mi_Young_Ball s ound better?
You must've missed the meeting where we voted on it

I dont know of anyone else saw this but I think this is huge for recruits to see guys like this coming back!

Took me a second to realize that JRob isn't rocking twin rat tails.
They were out DT and looked like they were having fun. So was Brandon Flowers
I met Flowers mom, dad, sister, niece and nephew and his youngest new kid 3 month old. Flying out of Roanoke Saturday night. They are a great family.
NAW just turned 21 last week on Labor Day. Weird to think that he spent two years here, got drafted in the 1st round, and probably just had his first full experience of DT Blacksburg.
Also ironic he has enough money to buy everyone a round, but also probably drank for free
As he should!
whole staff putting in work in Richmond
Anyone named Roosevelt pls
New deal for hokie ball? I'll see myself out...sorry all
No politics!
No politics! You'll give me a Corollary embolism
Thinking more like history, not politics.
What about Mark Williams? Is he out on VT now?
Didn't make his final five (Duke, Michigan, Ohio State, Stanford, UCLA). Hoping for Duke on the (very) off chance it helps us with Coleman.
Not shocked, Williams is a very, very, very heavy Duke lean.
Bigggg weekend
Henry plz
Hank JR pls
Ok
Ok I'm going to say it and this may get some down votes.
Does anyone else feel weird about the family who has the daughter who is sick using twitter to recruit kids? I thought it was awesome their videos for the team during the season and ACC AND NCAA tournament. But I feel weird about them when they tweet at recruits.
What is this?
I think he is talking about Dani Jo
Sometimes it's kind of cringe with tweeting to recruits, but tbf the players and even recruits seem like they want to be very involved in supporting her and stuff. I saw the tweet from a while back that Isaiah Wilkins and Brenden Palmer drove like 2+ hours to watch her in some Special Olympics type event. Jalen Cone seems pretty involved too.
yea i know how u feel sometimes i feel weird about it i think their intentions are good and all but it seems to be little much at time.
I agree that it is very weird.
On the surface, yes. But there's some backstory to it that makes me feel better. Dani Jo was originally a very regular member of Buzz's Bunch. She became very close with some of the players on the team and attends just about every home game, and even hangs out with the players after the game. I can't remember who it was now, but one of the players on last year's team even attended her birthday party. On top of that, the recruits seem to really enjoy her.
So at the end of the day, if the players and recruits enjoy it, and it obviously helps bring joy to a girl that has had a pretty rough life so far, then who cares?
happy to green this
half way there, let's take it plaid
Happily made this plaid.
I think I pretty much agree with everyone's sentiments here. I think her involvement with guys already on the team/committed to play here is awesome. She's obviously had a rough childhood and it clearly brings a lot of enjoyment for her and her family.
Admittedly I had no idea who Dani Jo was other than a few random mentions here and there. Decided to final look her up for the full story. Link below is a post from her dad on TSL that almost made me cry. She has a passion and I applaud her seemingly bright outlook with all the obstacles she is facing.
Tweet at all the croots you want Dani Jo
Link for those as ignorant as me
Sometimes it's kind of cringe, but as others have said I think she really likes doing it and it's not her dad making her do it. I think Bibbs was really close with her from what I recall. Seems the players like it. The posts usually aren't aggressive, more like good luck with your decision. They should limit it tho tbh.
Having had her and her dad in my living room after we help raise the money for her to go to the sweet 16, and I assure you this has nothing to do with her dad. This isn't a lemonade stand stunt. Her story is heart wrenching and brought me to tears, and she found something that makes her happy amidst an absolutely dog shit situation. After learning more, I'd be critical if he didn't support what she enjoys. Have much more to say, but I'll leave it at that.
What y'all did for her was awesome was happy to help in our very small way. Y'all out there doing great work.
Hokies did it not us. Just wanted to make sure it was known, at least in my opinion, it isn't a dad driving things. She no doubt loves the interaction, but if that's bad in this situation sign me up for bad.
Young doing more work in Richmond- this time with 2021's #1 recruit in VA. Currently holds offers from UVA and Rutgers.
7 foot PF? Are we allowed to recruit kids that tall?
Efton pls...
Just an FYI, Shakeel Moore looking like a Providence commit. Know that was a name early on, but both parties seemed to move on.
Tweets this right after visiting VT eh?
This is good news. Looks like its between us and Duke. Definitely could see Duke here but would be a HUGE get for us and he is shutting down his recruitment after our visit.
Imagine if we get Coleman and then beat Duke in football later that day.
I'm really not sure which is more likely. That is sad to say
Apparently, we didn't stand a chance with either one.
It's been joked about here and there, but if we start winning out recruiting battles against Duke, then it's official, we're transitioning into a basketball school
Henry pls...
🤞
Just so we know the rules:
1. Don't tweet at croots.
2. Dani Jo, Tweet at croots.
Can someone remind me why it's bad to tweet positive things at recruits? Coleman's tweet about his decision appears to have a ton of responses from VT fans. If I were a recruit, it would probably make me think that the fans care about me coming to their school and would be flattering.
Obviously, if you are being a dick on twitter, it doesn't help anyone but I've never understood why the positive stuff hasn't been encouraged on this site. Not really a twitter guy so maybe I'm missing something.
I think it's more a better safe than sorry approach.
Fans might believe that what they are tweeting is a positive message, but it could come across as negative to the croot.
Any word on if this will be streamed live anywhere?
At this point it is 12/12 crystal balls for Duke... I hope all those 247 experts are wrong.
Wait, how did I not see #3 Cheese is Okay.
Cheese is pretty high in my book, way more than OK.
I saw that we had the two top recruits in town this past weekend, and there may have been some negative reaction to the fans when Willis got hurt. Not sure if anyone has any actual backing to this or not. Anyone have any insight?
hokies cruttin on the bye week.
jham and jafar williams in jax this weekend flying in Thursday to make some rounds.
JHam going to keontas game Friday night against sandalwood. (sandalwood currently has 3 kids VT has offered on defense and 1 they are interested in at TE and starts 4star FSU commit jeff sims) keonta will be making his first start on the offensive side of the ball this week and playing both ways. going up against 4 star DB and ALABAMA commit Jahquez Robinson. should be a fun game to watch.
jafar will be attending my game! whoop whoop! lol University Christian hosting first coast high school and recent VT commit tyree saunders.
spoke to both coaches last night. going to grab some dinner with them Thursday night after practice and watch some football (just in time to watch the jags play. great /s) and talk shop. ill report back on any news later this week.
Sounds awesome! Thanks for keeping us in the loop - great information.
please keep the negativity that is football out of the basketball thread. thanks!!
myyyyyy baddddd lol. ill move it to the football one. didn't realize. its still early in this part of the country.
it happens my guy, no worries!
Coleman's timing of his decision seems so picturesque for him to pick the good guys:
-Visits with his family (believe his dad was a Tech alum)
-Almost immediately announces when he is making his decision after the visit
-Announces decision is on a VT home game AGAINST DUKE
Also, students were making gameday "signs" (really sheets with spray paint) with welcoming him into town and saying come to Tech more than the actual Furman game. He had to feel like a million bucks the whole weekend knowing that he was that influential during a home football game.
The timeline points everything toward us, but I have been disappointed before. Either way CMY and his team has proved to everyone they can do it and in my opinion some of the best recruiting Tech has seen. I don't ever recall us being in this many elite player's top 5's or even Top 2's.
LETS GET ONE FOR THE GOOD GUYS!!!
Now where have I heard this one before?
You referring to every high 4 star basketball or football recruit (besides Devon Hunter, and the combo NAW, Chris Clarke, Bede, and Hill) over the past 10 years Henry??
Hence the part where I said I have been disappointed before:(
The more I listen to that bit I think Robin Williams was actually talking about college football recruiting
I don't know if this negatively or positively helps us with Henry's recruitment, but in the updated 247 2021 Basketball Player Rankings, Duke has 100% Crystal Balls for 3 of the top 5 players in the nation all 6'7"-6'8" forwards.
I think Henry is an elite talent, but that's some crazy competition for playing time. Hopefully he can see an easy path to start for us for 2-4 years here depending on his success!
How'd that work out for Ford? **ducks**
Probably working out for him like it worked out for Slade

It appears that it's working out for Slade about as much as your battery life is working out.
I could never figure out why Slade was so eager to have Ford come to PSU. I was a second string catcher. The last thing I wanted was someone else trying out for catcher and possibly bumping me down to third string. Maybe football is different and someone else can explain that rationale to me.
When you're used to not only being first string catcher, but one of the top catchers in the country, in your mind you're the best catcher and there's no way any other catcher could take your spot
That's what happens when you still use the first iPhone ever made 😞
I mean, Devyn has just 3 fewer yards rushing than McClease (and 2 more TDs) but he did it on about 30 fewer carries. He's happy and I'm happy for him.
Big oof. A combined 9 carries for a total of 13 yards. At least Devon punched in a TD.
And then you look at this year's draft and see 3 duke players in the top 10. I think sometimes kids want to be on a dream team. However, I have no idea what these kids are thinking.
Update on PJ Hall. That family graphic is fire.
and why not- one more that caught my eye this morning
messaging, folks
Is Hall in the same class (skill wise) as Foster/Coleman? Is the ideal class for us if everything goes right Bamisile, Maddox, Coleman/Foster and Hall? I understand the Coleman/Foster pull probably doesn't happen but just trying to figure out what our plans are for the rest of the class
Based on his film, he's essentially Kevin Love-lite.
I would love the fit next to Nolley as Hall is more a physical/banger type with enough three point range to spread the floor. Would allow Nolley to start at the 3 (which is his more natural position) but Hall wouldn't clog the paint as you would see with most power forward types.
Just based on what I've seen, Coleman is a better athlete so the ceiling is higher. Coleman projects as a combo forward at the collegiate level but because of his height, he's going to want to play on the wing in college. That'll create a logjam the way the roster is set up over the next 2-3 years.
Foster is a much more logical fit than either Hall or Coleman. Foster is more of a natural rim protector and would be an immediate starter in 2020. (Would venture to say 2020 starting lineup is Cone, Bede, Nolley, Aluma and Foster in this scenario if recruiting rankings hold true).
That being said, I would be very happy with any of these guys coming to the good guys. The way the scholarship distribution is set up, it appears we only have one more scholarship available (assuming Palmer would go back to walk-on status). We could have an additional scholarship if Horne decides to grad transfer.
Slightly below, but still a really strong looking prospect. Just one of Hall, Coleman or Foster would make this class one of our best ever.
I do think most VT fans are slightly unaware of how good of chance we have with Coleman. It's still going to be tough to beat out Duke, yes. But it's probably a lot closer to 50-50 than it is to HC being a Duke lock.
I don't have the same amount of connections in basketball (i.e. I have one) but I'd say it's a bit lower than 50/50. Maybe 40/60. Definite shot though
If I'm not mistaken, CMY and Hall's dad are really good friends.
Mike Young is like family. Coached his dad at Wofford.
Sister plays volleyball at UF, dad with close ties to Young. Should be a decision between those two.
One of the reasons I really like our chances here. Also:
- Seems close to his family, and having his dad be able to vouch for CMY is great.
- UF is 7 hours vs 4 hours to VT from Dorman HS. I'd want to see as many games as I could.
- Sister will be a Junior if he goes there, 2 years overlapping is great but not everything. Also volleyball is a fall sport, are parents going to want to make that trek all fall and winter?
Maroon throw pillows, maroon accents in Persian rug... PJ Hall silent commit /S
A name that was previously on our radar:
He should change his first name to "Buc".
It's no wonder he didn't commit to play at VT. Probably got upset when you tweeted "Come to VT! You would make a good Ho!"
We don't recruit three stars anymore.
WeABasketballSchoolNow
Henry pls
I told my wife about his decision and everything going into it and her response was........ Why would you go to Tech over Duke???
Dude, I'm sorry about your upcoming divorce.
My wife went to Duke. I feel his pain. However, there is nothing sweeter than whenever we beat them on the wooden floor (Duke, not wives, don't beat your wife people)

4 star prospect.
5 star name.
I was happy yesterday.
