HH is starting to look to me like...

Tyrod Taylor, if he were 6'4".

Y'all are a lot smarter about football than me. Thoughts? Is this way off?

Same here. I thought it said "HH is starting to look like me..." I'm thinking, who is me? Then I also expected a picture for some reason. Very confused...

So did I first time I scrolled past it.

0% tyrod ran a much different offense was far more elusive and a significant scramble threat.

HH IS STARTING TO LOOK TO ME LIKE...

Let's Go

HOKIES

Nah. Definitely not intended that way.

"... I think he played his nuts off. And you can quote me on that shit."

Just finished watching Tyrods career highlights before I saw this...not even close.

Touchdown Tech!!!

In fairness, HH's first 5 games isn't a great comparison to TT's career highlights.

"... I think he played his nuts off. And you can quote me on that shit."

I'm talking pure athletic ability.

Touchdown Tech!!!

Hendon Hooker: 6'4" 228lbs. First year starting, stats show 10.1 yards per passing attempt and 3.4 yards per rush

- Tim Tebow: 6'3" 233lbs. Junior year stats: 9.4 YPA and 3.8 YPR
- Kevin Hogan: 6'4" 218lbs. Senior year stats: 9.4 YPA and 4.0 YPR
- Andrew Luck: 6'4" 240lbs. Senior year stats: 8.7 YPA, 3.4 AYPR
- Cardale Jones: 6'5" 249lbs. Sophomore year stats: 9.3 YPA, 4.3 YPR
- Troy Smith: 6'0" 217lbs. Senior year Heisman stats: 8.2 YPA, 2.8 YPR
- JT Barrett: 6'2" 220lbs. Senior year stats: 8.2 YPA, 4.8 YPR

All of these guys are just about the same size, just about the same age, with varying levels of experience when they earned these numbers but they're the closest comparisons I came up with.

That's not to say that Hendon is looking like any of these guys but the numbers are similar.

Tebow is no where near 6'3" lol. Maybe 6'.

*whispers* Hooker is on a trajectory to be better than Tyrod

I have no idea why my username is VT_Warthog.

Arkansas blew a 24-0 lead in the Belk Bowl.

Thank God Hooker isn't going to have what Tyrod's first two years were

I just sit on my couch and b*tch. - HokieChemE2016

I was actually thinking about that lately. Tyrod had one elite season. One average season. And two very not good seasons lol.

He was stellar after the Nebraska game. Before that, he was very average.

I'll take hookers first five games over Tyrod. 😊. Will just have to wait on the rest. Tyrod was incredibly elusive, hooker is just elusive.

build and style-wise, Randall Cunningham

Hendon's running style reminds me of Cam. A combination of power and elusiveness.......Tyrod was faster and much more shifty........

Victory

He kinda reminds me of Tahj Boyd. Hoping Dematrius Davis can show up in a couple years & be our deshaun watson

Great call, I forgot about Boyd. And Clemson and FSU

Tahj Boyd: 6'1" 225lbs, Senior year 9.3 YPA, 2.6 YPR
Deshaun Watson: 6'2" 215lbs, Senior year 7.9 YPA, 3.8 YPR
Jameis Winston: 6'4" 227lbs, Best year (freshman) 10.6 YPA, 2.5 YPR <- Skrong comparison
EJ Manuel: 6'5" 237 lbs, Sophomore year 9.3 YPA, 4.1 YPR

I'd have to say HH looks to me like Jameis Winston, but with slightly lower passing and better running skills. I just hope we use the running in moderation, as needed, so he'll remain healthy through the UVA game and into the bowl season. He was taking some shots yesterday that had me a little worried.

"That man was violating a city ordinance, and I was just doing my duty to enforce it." - Mike Curtis

We had a Deshaun Watson once. His name was Michael Vick

Watson couldn't tie Mike's cleats.

"I'll put a quote here to distract you from my inane comment."-Me

Watson doesn't even scratch Vick's game speed or shiftiness. No really, not even close.

"I play real sports, not trying to be the best at exercising..." - KP

Watson was probably a much better passer though. In fact, loads of Heisman winners were probably better passers.

Hookers long strides remind me of Kaepernick

Here lies It's a Stroman Jersey I Swear, surpassed in life by no one because he intercepted it.

I don't want to jump to "HE'S BABY TYROD" yet. Tyrod was a master of keeping plays alive in college, escapability, avoidability, and finding 'something' made him a special talent in the later years of his career.

I haven't been wowed yet by Hooker when things break down. I'm not saying he's done a bad job, but he hasn't had his Nebraska moment, his Stanford moment with Harbaugh pointing at the sideline. Hooker is still really young and may have the potential to be a special talent, but don't put him in with one of the best VT QBs of all time.

Good point - Tyrod was sandlot Superman. Making plays when there was nothing. I really enjoy watching hooker just do his damn job and make the simple pass, get the first down with the actual play called - it means that the system IS working. The plays are working and they just need to be executed. I never knew what our offense really was with Tyrod at the helm because there was so much improvisation- which of course was highly entertaining- but it all ended without a superstar improviser.

Tyrod was brilliant.

I think Hooker is great for this team, but I haven't seen proof of generational talent just yet.

I'm open to it, but haven't seen it yet.

We've been winning games with an excellent defense and a competent offense. The team as a whole gets better every week.

Randell Cunningham...HH has said he liked his style. Not a bad QB to emulate!

"Take care of the little things and the big things will come."

Thanks for the feedback. Something about a move I saw him put on during the Georgia tech game made me think "damn, that's a Tyrod move". Agree that TT was much shiftier, quicker and had an it factor, but I attribute those to being smaller and more experience.

I also often wonder what could've been if TT were like 6'2" or 6'3"

"... I think he played his nuts off. And you can quote me on that shit."

Height matters - brees and Wilson and Tyrod are definitely exceptions, not the rule. Hooker appears much more comfortable in the pocket than a young Tyrod who seemed to always be on the run.
Now that I think about it - why not a deshaun Watson comparison? Tall, mobile, good arm. I see that a lot more than chunky tajh Boyd.

He is HH and no one else.

#Let's Go - Hokies

I like the JT Barrett comparison...they seem very similar to me

Sean

Reminds me more of a taller Bryan Randall. Even the way that HH took over the team mirrors 2002 pretty closely.

No, I *don't* want to go to the SEC. Why do you ask?

We don't love dem Hoos.

I had him in my initial list but took him out. He has three years that are comparable to HH's work so far:

Bryan Randall - 6'2" 220lbs:
2002: 8.6 YPA, 3.0 YPR
2003: 8.1 YPA, 4.9 YPR
2004: 7.4 YPA, 3.8 YPR

It's certainly an apt comparison.

I was thinking of Bryan Randall also, but early in his career at Tech, Bryan had a habit of throwing interceptions (career TD/INT : 58 / 31) which thankfully has not been a problem for Hooker ( TD / INT : 8 /zero )

Ut Prosim Ad Dei Gloriam

Sshh! Dont jinx it

Narrator:

He didn't

To be honest, I removed him because I wanted to compare HH to players that were:
1) Dual threat to whatever extent
2) Within recent memory
3) About the same size
4) Similar stats
5) Not VT guys, no idea why this mattered to me

Hooker, oddly, has zero interceptions (knock on wood). This is a pretty rare stat.

I can see what you are saying. The throwing motions are comparable, and at 6'4, Hooker isn't going to be quite as shifty as Tyrod. But they do look similar throwing and in the Tech colors playing QB.

Thought sure this was a DC thread by the title

Now finish up them taters; I'm gonna go fondle my sweaters.

I don't wanna see any Tyrod slander in here. Winningest Qb in our history. We may never have another Qb win 3 ACC championships in 4 years. Obviously the defense and running game had a lot to do with that but still let's chill

You will never see any slander here or anywhere.

I agree with the Bryan Randall comparison here...he played within the system for the most part, but by the time he's a senior, he's going to be a stone cold killer and this team will be marching to his beat...also whoever said "he hasn't had his nebraska moment, where he has to put the team on his back and bring them back" is correct...everytime i think think about Tyrod here, i think about how we could have redshirted...nm :(

OT: but quiet as kept...i'll put the current receiving corps(Tre, Damon, and Tayvion) up against Tyrod's receiving corps the entire time he was here (off of pure talent and explosiveness)

I believe our current receiving corps is as good as any we've had. Yep. Coale Boykin Royal Hamilton. All those guys. This squad is loaded.

"I play real sports, not trying to be the best at exercising..." - KP

We've never had a quarterback with his combination of size, speed, and throwing ability. He is basically what Ike Whitaker was supposed to be. I've been saying that all season. He is a unique talent that has paved the way for this turnaround is only a sophomore. Hope he can stay healthy these next THREE games before the offseason.

I think Whitaker had a stronger arm, but I see the comparisons though...

Regarding Size, Speed, and Throwing ability...

Logan Thomas has entered the chat..

Logan Thomas threw I think a combined 29 interceptions his junior and senior year. Hooker has thrown 0 so far. Hooker takes care of the ball much better than Thomas ever did.

I don't know where to post this, but can we talk about how beautiful that last TD to Haze was? My god, just perfectly placed, beautiful spiral. It was like a work of art.
