Eddie Whitley Named JMU Safeties Coach

This is a great hire for the Dukes. Eddie Whitley has done a tremendous job the past three seasons with Mike Clark and Bridgewater College. I expect him to continue to rise in the coaching industry over the upcoming years.

That's a name I've not heard in a long time. Good on him, and I'm just spitballing here, but he could one day find himself traveling down I-81 to Blacksburg and join up with J. Ham.

had the same initial reaction. Our program has pumped alot of smart talented kids out over the last few decades, time to start reeling them back in as coaches and letting them help us out again!

Agree completely. I live about 10 miles from both Bridgewater College and JMU. I've seen firsthand what he's done with the Eagles, who had a huge resurgence this past season. I think he's a rising star in the coaching industry.

From BC's website:

Whitley was the secondary coach and pass defense coordinator for the Eagles, who ranked ninth in the nation in scoring defense (13.4 ppg) and 12th in passing efficiency defense (100.25) during their 2019 ODAC championship season. He coached All-Region/All-State cornerback Chase Rosenthal, All-State safety Matt Dang, and three All-Conference selections at defensive back.

Whitley has spent three years with the Bridgewater staff. The 2018 secondary featured two All-Conference selections- Dang and cornerback Davonta Womack. Dang was a first team choice and was also named second team All-State. In Whitley's first season the Eagles had two All-ODAC cornerbacks in Isaac Evans and Josh Brooks; Evans was named a first team All-State selection by the Roanoke Times, and second team All-State by VaSID.

Fans love to think about guys like Deangelo Hall, Dre Bly, and Ed Reed coming back as coaches but personally I believe guys like Whitley, who couldn't rely on freak athleticism and all-world talent but used work ethic and technique to compete at the highest levels, have greater potential in a coaching role.

Joffrey, Cersei, Ilyn Payne, the Hound, Jeff Jagodzinski, Paul Johnson, Pat Narduzzi.

This is a big upward movement for his coaching career. I love seeing news like this.
