10 overall selections for the Hokies, though Khalil Herbert appears twice as 2nd team All-Purpose and 3rd team RB.
I believe Herbert should have been 1st or 2nd team RB. I also think Etienne should have been 2nd or 3rd team back. Seems more like a lifetime achievement award or a nod to him breaking the career rushing yards record for the ACC. Both Herbert and Javonte Williams are better 1st team options in my opinion. There's a strong argument that both UNC backs should be first team as they were in other All-ACC teams.

Not bad for a developmental program
North Carolina running backs Carter and Williams got 25% of their season totals in that demolition of Miami and it really helped them here with the voters that just look at final numbers to decide. Only surprised by the order considering Williams had 19 touchdowns to Carter's 9.
Javonte Williams finished with 22 touchdowns total and got 2nd team. This order wasn't particularly merit based.
I mean, that miami destruction was a huge game against a highly ranked team. I'd say that them having insane games is more of a positive than negative in regards to season perception. If it were the other way around and Herbert was in their place, we would be singing his praise as to how he showed up in a big game.
Sure but prior to that game, neither had broken the 1000 yard mark, so their performance the rest of the season, while productive touchdown wise, wasn't overwhelming in any regard.
Well, we are talking about two running backs from the same team lol. That in itself should tell you something.
They got the other 75% against Virginia Tech
I probably would have had Carter and Herbert first team but understand arguments including Javonte Williams in that since he finished with 22 touchdowns. Etienne finished like 5th in rushing and averaged almost 2 yards less per carry than that trio.
Etienne was named for lifetime achievement definitely not play this year. Herbert was all conference leading the RB's despite missing a game or so.
Why didn't Oscar appear? Although lower by his standard, he still had a good year.
I didn't have a lot of issues here. I would have placed Dimukeje over Rumph and Roche. Bresee as first team DT seemed like a stretch, but this was not a good year overall for defensive tackle play. I would have put Williams and Carter over Entiene. Herbert would stand pat because of the lull during his hamstring injury. Entiene's long term success and performance in the ACCCG gave him a bump.
What about LB, specifically Chazz Surratt? I don't know who I'd replace him with but he didn't impress me much over the season, especially to be receiving the most votes at his position.
Herbert not getting any first team votes is a fucking travesty.
I am curious about how Herbert's votes were split, AP vs RB. Could a voter vote for him as both an AP and RB or did they have to chose one or the other. If you total his AP+RB votes he is easily first team.
Separate categories with separate votes. Etienne was 1st team for both RB (161) and AP (112). Different positions essentially with different votes.
Thanks.
I assume Fuente isn't in the running for COY?

Love me some Deablo. Though, I am not sure I saw first team execution from him all year. Then again, I could only watch Tech games so maybe others in the ACC were not far better.
I thought Deablo had a very good year but couldn't stand out because the rest of the defense was a sieve most of the year.
Etienne getting first team this year is a bunch of BS, he did not have a good year. I am not saying Herbert should have been in his place, but there is no way you can look at his season and say he was the top back in the ACC. He only had 2 100 yard games. And one was against Miami which well he should have gone for 300+ against them if he was the best.
