How to Watch/Listen to the MTSU game

Hey all - hoping some TKP wisdom can help me here....Havent been able to find a good answer on the interwebs so here's hoping...

Whats going to be my best bet for watching/listening to the game on Saturday?

  • I have YoutubeTV with a Charlotte based account. From what I've seen, watching directly on YTTV doesnt seem to be viable.
  • I will be sitting on the beach in Charleston during game time (I have no problem hotspotting to an iPad if I can actually watch).
  • I understand Eddie and Bill are doing the coverage for ACCN so I really want to hear that if possible.

Recommendations?

WatchESPN App

Thanks - only question there is do I have to worry about a blackout?

I believe it is an ACCNX broadcast, which means it's only on there. No Blackout.

However, you may need to login to your service provider while in the ESPN app to prove you have ACCN

BOOM! Easy enough.

In the past when Ive used the ESPN app (attempted to) I've always gotten the blackout message so I'm a bit jaded.

Sometimes it gets the random local station like NBCSN washington or local fox that picks it up and blacks it out are we sure its a ACCNX exclusive?

Directions from Blacksburg to whoville, go north till you smell it then go east until you step in it

Thats what has always happened to me.

That's what I'm fully expecting at this point

I don't see any reason it would black out does YTTV not allow you to watch on your phone anywhere? I use my HuluTV account on my phone all over the country.

Also go to the Brick after

Oddly enough, that is the plan.

And Charlotte always falls in the blackout area for Tech games. So that was moreso my ask around that rather than my location where Im actually watching

I haven't had any issue in my 4 years in SC except when Hulu randomly lost ACCN in the middle of the season so you should be set.

There's like always a 90% chance I end up at the Brick during/games its a fun spot.

It's ACCNX, which is basically ESPN3 with ACC branding...although there might be the extra caveat that you have to subscribe to a cable package that has ACCN.

It's not RSN, Raycom, or any syndicated broadcast that ESPN is picking up for their app. This is a straight online-ony streaming broadcast.

Probably the easiest way to tell if you'll be able to stream the game is to try to stream ACCN through the ESPN app. If that works, more than likely you'll get the game.

Looks like it's also on ESPN+ in case folks might have that but not ACCN cable credentials.

I've never watched a VT game on ESPN+, but it does appear that it is available there as well from what I'm seeing. I believe they have all/most of the CUSA games so that makes sense to me.

Is it against community guidelines to post third party streams?

Not as far as I know. I've seen otherw post and I used in the past with ad blockers and did fairly well. It was appreciated.

Though beware...

Not explicitly, but let's not.

I'm not going to post the links, but you can always find streams on reddit as a last resort.

So I logged into the ESPN app with my YTTV credentials to make sure I'd get the game and it's telling me I need to get ESPN+...panic?

It should be available through both avenues. It's on ACCNxtra through your provider on the VT side, and it should be available on ESPN+ via their deal with CUSA. It could be that there are two different thumbnails to click on, one for each, and you could get blocked out from one if you don't have both.

That's what I thought, but with other games on there it just says the event hasn't started yet and doesn't ask me to get my credit card. It just seemed strange

Okay so you are correct on the being two links. For other people who were confused like me, just click on the link for the access type you have.

I'm glad you were able to find it. Finding events on the ESPN app, particularly the ones that aren't "featured" can be more difficult than it should be.

I don't think the CUSA deal has anything to do with it as broadcasts deals go with the home team. I think it's a dual stream to provide content to folks paying to stream.

Perhaps I'm saying it wrong. I believe it's available on both because of whatever rights deals the G5 conferences have with ESPN+. So MTSU's game would have been available on ESPN+ today no matter if they were playing VT or not, and it's only available on ACCNxtra because it's an ACC team. So two separate access points.

There's still a chance that I just don't know what I'm talking about. This is just my best guess as to how it is setup.

Nope, rights are solely based on the home team. That's how we got on FS1 next week, due to the Big 12 deal.

It was only showing up as a shared thumbnail but it is now separated

This is the problem I was having. I had to actually use the search function to pick the ACCN access

Why we didn't use the "stars and stripes" VT helmet for this game absolutely confounds me. πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡ΈπŸˆ

Right?! Seems like a no brainer

So I logged into the ESPN app, and when I try to watch through ESPN+ it wants me to pay a subscription. But when I browse in the app by channel and select ACCNX, the game just says "this event hasn't started yet." So I assume I can watch there because I have ACCN through Hulu.

These shenanigans between Comcast and ESPN have to stop.

One thing I noticed was that this ACCNX streaming-only game had better camera work than our Friday night ESPN week 1 special.

About halfway through the UNC game, the cameras seemed to stay zoomed up from halfway up the stands (like a typical ACCN game). But in week 2, I could actually see the action.
