Given that Miami only has about as many actual fans at their games as UVa does at their football festival, couldn't you just decide to sit just about anyplace once you get into the stadium?

I went in 2017 and watched us get handily beat by a pretty decent Miami team. It was an abysmal experience. The stereotype is the fanbase is lame and fairweather, but let me tell you, when they're playing good football that place is loud and full of crazy people. The students and alum are harmless. But that team has a huge following in the actual city of Miami. I was cussed at, yelled at, and given the finger more during that 3 hour game than I ever have in my entire life. Now this season will likely be a different story, they aren't nearly as good, and there's nothing sweeter than a road victory, but their fans suck. Whatever you do don't try and Uber away from the stadium, it's a nightmare of traffic. We stayed at an airport hotel which was really easy for travel but no where close to the stadium. I guess moral of the story is I had a poor experience but 1000% didn't do things the right way.

I've gone to the last 3 away Miami games. We get a good group and rent Airbnb spot in Hollywood, FL. Most of the fans aren't alumni so it's more of a NFL game vibe at the Hardrock. The Miami fans remind me of Raiders fans if that tells you anything. The Stadium is t really close to a anything so plan on getting an Uber/Lyft to and from stadium. Tickets are cheap and easy to get. The stadium doesn't fill up much but it's expected with the student body/distance from the University.
Group isn't going this year.

My wife and I used hotel points and stayed in Hollywood, Florida at the Diplomat Resort and Spa. We thought it was worth it. Definitely not for everyone though. Seats in the stadium are very nice and there is a drink holder which was awesome. The medical school for UM was giving out pink breast cancer awareness towels with the Miami "U" on them and the guy handing them out asked if we wanted one since we were Hokie fans and we took him up on his offer which was good because my head was buzzed so it protected me from the sun. Wear sun screen, expect overcast skies possibly and then it will be nice and sunny the day you leave haha, don't bother arguing with the fans (they weren't too bad to deal with anyways), and overall we didn't have a bad experience other than the Hokies losing.

Hard Rock is in kind of an odd area, essentially at the junction of 2 Toll Roads.
I've never been to a Hurricane game there, but did go to a Dolphins a while back.
The immediate area around the Stadium is largely a mix of Residental and strip-mall type development and there are very few Hotels close-by (and the ones that there are do not appear very inviting).
AirBNB and Uber to game would be a solid plan. Or, as someone posted above, HR Hollywood Seminole Casino is not too far away if that piques your interest.
Honestly, the lack of much infrastructure around the stadium has largely limited my interest in attending VT games there--tickets are easy and generally cheap, but a long drive back and forth on the Turnpike makes for a crummy day.
Students and Alumni of Miami are generally decent fans, its the others that you have to worry about. Luckily, many of their worst fans are also huge bandwagoners and a good portion have probably already given up on this Season.
Edit: in the Stadium, the Club Level (all 200's) are the prime seating areas. The Club Levels at both Endzones tend to be quite affordable. Not sure if the Club Services are the same for UM as the Dolphins but the facilities are quite good.

I went two years ago and had a decent experience. Fans were friendly and cordial while tailgating. Happened to be in a suite entertaining clients, so didn't get the true stadium experience. It was far from full, and I expect it will be less so this year.
There aren't many hotels near the stadium so I agree with others on here about staying in Hollywood.
I'll be there this year as well, driving down from Tampa Friday night and staying until Sunday in the Hollywood area.
Don't know the area too well, but a fun place for local vibe is Tekila in Hollywood. Not much English spoken, but rocking until 4am.
When we get closer to the date, those of us going should coordinate some tailgating.

Thanks, yea I was struggling to find hotels near the stadium. Just going to rent a car, flying down Friday Night flying home Sunday Afternoon.
Dolphins fans are not even a 10th as awesome as Raiders fans

The central Florida alumni association usually gets a bus trip together for that game. Down and back the same day, long ass day but no hotel expense
Another place to stay is the Hardrock new guitar hotel. Pretty cool place (new).

If you want to stay on the breach, close I'd do the Diplomat.

When I went it was at the orange bowl so not much help here, but we went to the beach the next day and that was fun.
If you are staying in Brickell (which would be a pain in the ass to get the stadium) go to La Mar for a meal. Pricey but it is worth it.
I ate there four years ago and I still think about it. Even go as far as recreating their grilled jumbo prawns.
