LETS GO!
HOKIES!
So realistically I guess the only remaining on-field coaching hires are OL (presumed to be Rudolph) and WR coach.
I really like this move, especially after hearing that it was Pierson Prioleau and JC Price that put in the work to keep this recruiting class together even before Pry was announced.
I was in school for a few of PP's season and he was a bad bad man on the field. I hope he gets the chance to mold some other players in the same style.
I forsee many, many interceptions as Prioleau was good at that. I also forsee some rather snot bubble inducing hits, which will draw flags these days if they do it the way the Prioleau did. The guy was a quasi-headhunter on the field.
Not surprising given the first three letters of his name are "Pri"
BOOM!
This is a great move!
Classy by Hamilton
I loved him as a player. But I'm not "every coach should be a former player."
On one hand, a long quiet period followed by an internal promotion suggests a fall-back after failing to close on other options.
On the other, every position coach starts somewhere; he has NFL cred; he has a couple years in the program; and he allegedly was putting in work on the recruiting front already.
So I'll stay solidly wait-and-see.
I wonder if that position was going to by Ryan Smith before he decided to leave for Northwestern.
I guess kind of a fall back, but still, love to see this and plus he was promoted from within (likely would have held his off field position if he was not promoted).
That's the kind of completely obvious thing that I miss when scrolling TKP after a day of work. I'm dumb. Have a leg.
Pierson didn't want to be a position coach. He liked the player development side, while still being able to be a family man. Needless to say he is a great man and father. I know Hamilton wanted to hire him as a coach, but he would only accept a DP role. My guess is Pry recruited him and talked him into it (and now that his kids are older). Mark my words, he will be a star as a coach.
That is my understanding as well. He didn't want the added overhead of being a position coach, e.g., lots of recruiting, but given the things you stated and maybe after a taste of it keeping this class together, he decided he'd give it a shot.
That's my guy - played at tech when I went to school - Viva PP d-block
Good grief this is gonna be one heck of a coaching staff.
Was J Ham considered here? Would he have considered being a position coach?
That's a significant pay cut, I'm sure he would rather take a DC role at a smaller school before moving down a position coaching role
We going old school! This is getting me excited.
Hopefully he's wearing that big Super Bowl ring on the recruiting trail
I guess now's a good a time as ever to ask how his last name is pronounced
I'm horrible with names, so take it for what it's worth, but I've always pronounced it "Prey-Lou" or "Prey-Low" in my head
the latter
but also inb4 someone says "kevin"
Well shit, I've been pronouncing it wrong for 20 years
Me too. I had been saying PREE-uh-low forever.
But I guess if Brett Favre can be FARV, PP can be PRAY-low.
Edit: can't read. Gobble took care of it. Drinking now ๐บ
Congrats to Prioleau for the promotion! While he might not have been choice 1, this move could be freeing up some necessary money for our new OL coach!
He managed player development?
That hasn't happened much lately.
