Distribution of Top 100 rated players in college football

Saw on Reddit (link) there was a topic about Alabama and Georgia having more top 100 players than 100 FBS teams. Someone in the comments compiled a list and thought it was interesting enough to share.

Ironic that Memphis has more Top 100 players than we do...actually, it's damning of the prior regime

It's definitely disheartening to see the company we're in.

I'm not even sure who our one top 100 player is off the top of my head. Guessing Devon Hunter.

How? He never even plays.

You will see this game, this upset and this sign next on ESPN Sportscenter. Virginia Tech 31 Miami 7

His decision was made after a phone call with longtime Virginia Tech assistant coach Bud Foster. All Foster told him was, "We win. They don't."

He was a top-100 rated recruit. It's not the "top-100 rated college football players"

Hold on. Let me get a ladder to put this on the Fuente-sucked-at-recruiting pile

Plan for the worst and hope for the best, not the other way around.

See? Therapy! Eventually, the mountain becomes a pile of rubbish and we move on!

If you play it, they will win.

What's the real difference between having 1 top 100 player vs 3 in comparison to what the blue chip schools are bringing in?

Alabama, Georgia, Ohio State, LSU, Clemson, Texas A&M, and two of Oklahoma/Florida/Oregon (15) had a total of 204. The remaining 122 teams had a total of 202.

...illustrates that point better than anything to me.

For what it's worth, some more stats from the reddit post...

Top 100 recruits in each conference

  • SEC - 159
  • BIG TEN - 76
  • ACC - 57
  • PAC-12 - 52
  • BIG XII - 32
  • GROUP OF FIVE - 18
  • INDEPENDENT - 12

Teams with the most top 100 recruits:

  • Alabama (40)
  • Georgia (36)
  • Ohio State (36)
  • Clemson (22)
  • LSU (22)
  • Texas A&M (18)

And finally, two really interesting facts:

  • The CFP national champion with the fewest Top 100 recruits was 2016 Clemson (16).
  • All 18 Group of Five players who were top 100 recruits transferred there from the Power Five.

I am glad we are no longer reduced to attempting to explain reasoning for our players losing so much is because there is a larger challenge at hand for their lives. Bottom of the barrel...No leadership ass-clown, stay in OK.

What?

This is going to be great for the ACC.
