The Hokies host LOLUVA at 7 PM tonight. The game is on ESPN. The Hokies are favored by 4.5. Over/Under 118.5. The Hokies have 6 games left. UVA received votes in the latest AP poll; but not the coaches. Miami received votes in both. UVA, MIami and UNC are ahead of us in the ACC standings. GA Tech, Louisville and Clemson are not having good years. Winning out is a possibility.
The Hokies lost to UVA in Charlottesville by 2 earlier this year. We are a much better team now; but UVA is also better. UVA has won four in a row; we have won five. They have a statement win over Duke in their string. Our wins are over teams in the bottom half of the ACC standings.
Virginia has two big men in 7'1 Jr Center Cafaro and 6'11 redshirt Soph Shedrick. They seem to split time on the court with Cafaro starting; but Shedrick playing more minutes.
Clark, Beekman and Stattman are the primary threats from three. Franklin leads the team in attempts from three but is only hitting 27%.
Virginia is known as a defensive team with it's pack-line defense. They only allow 59.6 ppg; but they only score 63.4. If the Tech offense can function well tonight, UVA probably cannot keep up. Ball security will be important tonight. UVA usually has a big advantage in TO margin and steals. The Hokies need to be productive on offense and get good shots every time down the court. Kihei Clark is a player to watch tonight; he is capable of going off for 25 points and taking over a game. The player guarding him will have to do a good job.
