Hayden Wolf- I watched their bowl game footage. He throws a pretty ball. Very slow footwork mechanics. It will be critical for the Hokies to take away the middle of the field and get quick pressure. He takes a long time to get set up to throw. He isn't a run threat.

Hopefully we have some guys that can get into the backfield. No run threat is nice to hear considering our problems with running QB's the last few years. Then again, who knows what the new Defense with look like.
but how good is their 2nd string?
pain
Asking the right questions, sir.
DJ Mack Jr. is their 2nd string QB, and by all accounts he's much more of a run threat than Wolff.
Prepare for everything.
I hate how the real answer to my question scares me
I'm still traumatized by James Summers as well...
Now why you gotta go and do that?!
I refuse to entertain the idea that I should care who their QB is. This is the first test of the Pry era for me. We can't have a repeat of 2018 where we are playing ODU like equals.
Agreed. I'm expecting us to throttle ODU. It's time to reestablish our expectations for this program.
I don't necessarily need the scoreline to be insane, but the feeling as I watch the game needs to be calm/comfortable from start to finish.
I feel like 27-6 would be realistic and acceptable.
I'm not buying any hype around the offense until I see it. I just think there is a dearth of talent on that side of the ball.
I'm looking forward to getting back to that point as a program. But serious question here: roughly how many of our starting 22 would likely start for ODU opening day?
I feel like if the answer for any given game is 15, 16 or more, we should be able to easily handle that team. Anything less than that and I think things can get dicey.
I like this word throttle.
*Hayden Wolf sets career high in rushing yards in brutal loss to Virginia Tech*
At 13 yards.
"Not a run threat"
He can throw the ball, and Ali Jennings (WR), Zach Kuntz (TE) and the Watson kid at TB are very good skill players. OL is a question mark, and they lost their best player (Jordan Young) on defense.
Hokies need to execute in the red zone and avoid explosive plays on defense. Do that we will be fine.
Says every Hokie fan before every game for as long as I remember.
Not really WADR... usually its not let the QB scramble, and gain more yards on offense for us.
You forgot control the line of scrimmage on both sides of the ball and limit mistakes.
and, you know, Time of Possession.
Just win baby
Oh man... how far we have fallen...
I remember the good ole' days where knowing who the starting QB was for DII/III and G5 teams we were about to play wasn't even a topic brought up for conversation.... BUT HERE WE ARE lol
Those G5's 'll get after you!
/sssortof
I fear every opponent until the game is over and VT is up on the scoreboard, primarily because all it takes is one major matchup flaw to make games that shouldn't be competative way more competative.
I will be happy if Pry can get our guys to win the games we are supposed to win by playing until tike expires. The Temple game from 1998 still haunts me.
Yes, for those of us that were there....
From someone who remembers both, great GIF use.
Temple??!!
This is the VT I've known for 5 decades, with the Beamer run too. Can't breathe freely until final seconds of 4th quarter. It goes on.
One of my few hopes with Pry is that we get back to easily beating bad teams. No more struggling with Furman or Richmond. Those are games to get your young players experience in the second half, but that was basically never the case with Fuente. Low expectations this year but hoping for dominating the bad teams in 2023 and beyond.
May he become well acquainted with the turf of Kornblau Field in 10 days.
Agree.

Skis >>> runs.
🙃

I really don't understand this, but I really don't mind now...
With a non-mobile QB, our D-line will be able to rush the QB, putting the O-line on skis instead of chasing a running QB? idk
This works for me.....much like the pictures.
And here I was thinking pictures would help deciphering some of bstreet's comments
Qb1=skis, his she-Wolff is on the, right.
b.street
I'm not entirely sure this clears things up, TBH
I'm confused but I'm ok with it.
I do agree though. Ski >> Runs, especially when Taco Bell is in the equation.
My first thought when I saw the picture was the ski rope was that it was the tie for her top.
I believe that's wave surfing, but who's counting?
Stop their running game. Get pressure on their QB. No turnovers, few penalties. Control the game and win. Regardless of score, play well and get the W.
