247 listed him as 6th best QB in portal, just behind Sims. Leary rated #1 and DJU #2. Link

TX2VT is alive and well.

🦃 🦃 🦃

I mean he only attempted 23 passes but 6th!?!? Behind DJU? Did no one watch Clemson this year? Behind Sims?

Though reading the list Luke Altmyer is described the same way Pry describes his dream offense.

Hey remember earlier today when we said we needed that moment to say things were legitimately trending in the right way?

I think we have it

I'm standing behind my earlier take that OL and WR are the biggest offensive needs, but I'm not mad about this. It does seem like an upgrade, but if it isn't, the depth doesn't hurt.

How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Jet Sweep

Not that I expect a QB rotation, but with the shambles that our OL is in, we may be looking at a Glennon-Taylor type situation where while the pocket passer is a rather good QB, they just can't perform behind a matador OL, so the dual threat QB who can scramble and make plays with their feet gets a boost in the QB competition

Not looking forward to the Glennon-esque arguments over the next decade.

"Yes I am going to have favorites. My favorites are high production and low maintenance players, coaches, and staff." - JMFF

Wells hasn't demonstrated the touch, arm, or accuracy that Glennon had. Glennon was just a statue QB who at time got slammed 1.5 seconds after snap.

Never thought we'd have a starting QB that my first thought was "whoa, pump the brakes, he's no Sean Glennon out there"

Now finish up them taters; I'm gonna go fondle my sweaters.

I was a Glennon fan then and now. He was in a bad situation behind a line that couldn't pass protect a pocket passer. It just wasn't a good situation for us or him. He is still a fan of Virginia Tech.

Oh no doubt, he took a lot of undeserved heat from the fans. Hard for any pocket QB to have much success when the DLine is in your face in less than 2 seconds

Now finish up them taters; I'm gonna go fondle my sweaters.

And you can't take a mauling while getting a pass off like Druckenmiller.

Not every QB is built like a defensive lineman.

His decision was made after a phone call with longtime Virginia Tech assistant coach Bud Foster. All Foster told him was, "We win. They don't."

Agree, I always thought VT fans did him kinda dirty. I get that the QB on an underperforming offense will likely bear the lion's share of the blame, but it isn't always the QB or the OC to blame when things aren't working (cough cough).

I'll always remember him lighting GT up wearing their own jersey though. Shit like that is what makes college football the greatest.

I remember watching the game in the dorms while having a Natty Light and seeing him spin it like he knew he could. Loved that game for him. And the ACC championship game that year.

I was at that game. He was magnificent that day. All the guys with stolen jerseys were, IIRC.

This past weekend has just been a massive Hokie flex. Recruits and transfers committing all over. Women and Men's basketball continuing excellence. Wrestling team kicking ass.

LET'S GO!

HOKIES!!

(Mansoor said there's more after Drones announced too!)

I'm hoping for a lot of "Drones strikes" in the future!

3 years of eligibility as well this momentum is intoxicating. LETS FREAKING GO BOYS

Directions from Blacksburg to whoville, go north till you smell it then go east until you step in it

This is a HUGE get FAM. Pry is doing everything he can to create competition within the program (something he said was missing when he arrived).

Holy Crooting Weekend Batman! QB room done be serious for a change. Starting to wonder how those numbers always work out, but hey, if Prime can make them work I am sure we can. For those of us who waited all season for a "show me something" moment, here it is out of the clear blue. Color me impressed for the moment and a LOT more optimistic about the future of Hokie football.

I can't image Farrell sticks around too much longer after picking up 2 new QBs in the last week.

Depends on how set he is on QB. Guessing Bullock leaves for sure now. Brown is gone one way or another. I also wonder if we keep Wittke with the other QB just committing.

Brown has already hit the portal a while ago.

Yeah, I could have phrased it better. Either without eligibility as a grad or to play elsewhere

I thought for sure Bullock was going to be one of the first to hit the portal after not making the depth chart this year.

Wait until Spring semester starts. We will have a wave of transfers out.

Will Bullock move to TE or WR?

Personally, I'm worried Lawson is going to transfer rather than compete with Drones

Bye Wells? I hope.

Even when you get skunked; fishing never lets you down. 🎣

I'm hoping Wells sticks around and gets better. Even if he gets passed on the depth chart our QB depth will be much better.

Yes,that's the Hokie Bird riding a camel. Why'd you ask?

Well, that's harsh!

Even when you get skunked; fishing never lets you down. 🎣

A surefire way to get downvoted around here is to respond to news by framing it negatively with respect to an adjacent item.

We landed a former 4* transfer qb, be happy about that. Don't tell our incumbent starter to take a hike. A WR who was notably on the two deep announced he was entering the portal -- wish him the best. Don't gripe that he's getting a departure thread as a walk-on.

"Why gobble gobble chumps asks such good questions, I will never know." - TheFifthFuller

Amen. And Wells played every snap this year. every one. That's not easy to do. Staying healthy is a skill.

Jason played one when Wells helmet came off, I think.

Didn't he play in the Wofford game too?

How cool is that?

Ok, now THAT's the kind of thing I'd like to see major donors get!

I have one sitting beside me on the desk - it wasn't a Hokie Club donation perk, unfortunately, only one of the 'Keep Jumping' fund perks...like the flags, pennants, CMY Popcorn Tub, and other stuff they've been doing over the past year. The only downside is none of it counts towards your Hokie Club/Points account, but damn if the stuff hasn't been fun and enticing.

I think the one they're doing right now is an art print of our ACC MBB Championship banner going up in NY as well as at home.

“Also, a microwave has never danced it's ass off to Jackie Wilson.” - AssPocketFullOWhiskey

You know what would also be cool?

Actually selling an ACC Champions banner for the tournament win. Not the flag, an actual banner like those felt ones that we used to sell in football every year we won the conference from 2004-2010.

But no, all we got was a cookie cutter hat, a cheaply made tshirt, and some basic bitch flags hosted on Fanatics because our supplier couldn't bother to lift their damn finger to monetize an actual athletic accomplishment by VT.

#TX2VT ????

Do we know why he transferred? Good prospect, same age as Devin Farell.

Still Well's job for sure but now we've got 3 young guys with some experience and a lot of eligibility competing in the room. As well as two pretty good true freshman prospects

Blake Shapen won the starting job over Drones this year and he has two years of eligibility left. Baylor also has an incoming, early enrollee QB in Austin Novosad, who is a 4 star rated at .94. I'm guessing that Drones sees an easier path to playing sooner and more with us.

All his passes and rushes from 2022 season at Baylor:

stick it in, stick it in, stick it in!

I love the hype train but he had time for routes to develop. Not sure if the OL can give him that time.

That one below was supposed to be a reply dunno what happened.

But since I'm here again I'll expand: I saw a young qb with better pocket presence than we've seen in Blacksburg in a while. The arm is live but needs work (looks like a redshirt freshman). But he fast.

I'm still figuring this out.

Thanks for sharing.

I think Wells is overall a better passer. Drones is a better athlete and was better at moving around in the pocket and he had some dimes against WVU last year, but he faltered late when the WVU D-line started to get pressure on him. It will be an interesting Spring. I'm not sure he is THE answer, but hopefully we can get better complimentary play from the O-line and WRs to get a passing game going.

🦃 🦃 🦃

He can hit a slant route from inside the 5. He can hit a TE on the seam route. Both things were on this highlight reel that I bet you can't find on Grant Wells tape this year. Also Wells has now played 3 years of football, the fact they're even comparable at least shows the potential in favor of Drones

This is true in the WVU game towards the end he played like a R Fr. He looked rushed and flustered trying to win the game rather than playing his game.

(add if applicable) /s

This was one of things the really frustrated me about Wells, but I think can be improved on. He can throw a beautiful on target slant across the middle, and pick up nice yards consistently on it. He just won't throw it. He has a nice deep ball when he throws it, but he only looks for the short routes and misses players wide open down the field. I know some of this is because he had to get it out early most of the time, but it was sooooo frustrating to see the wide open receiver not get the ball, or the check down to the back when they gave us the slant.

I think if you look you find once or twice were Wells throws those balls - its not the he can't, he just doesn't. Maybe competition is what it will take to get him over the hump, or maybe just more resp in the office, but it we need an option than can be better than what he was this year.

Sometimes we live no particular way but our own

I don't disagree. Drones's best highlights were Q3 against WVU, but also some of his worst highlights were Q4 against WVU. Prior to the WVU game, many of his throws looked like ducks. Wells's has had spurts just as good as Drones's Q3 last year, but they were few and far between. But it's probably more fair to compare Wells and Drones in their respective second year:

Drones: 60.9% completion in 23 attempts for 219 yards, 1 TD and 1 INT. He also had 8 rush attempts for 49 yards and 2 TDs.

Wells: 66.3% completion in 445 attempts for 3,532 yards, 16 TDs and 13 INTs. He also had 60 rush attempts for 56 yards and 7 TDs.

Which QB is better passer? Is it even close?

And Drones stats against WVU were not pretty when compared to Baylor's starter Blake Shapen (prior to injury).

Drones: 50% completion in 14 attempts for 95 yards, 1 TD and 1 INT. He had 2 rushes for 24 yards.

Shapen: 64% completion in 22 attempts for 326 yards, 2 TDs. He had 5 rushes for -2 yards.

So, I think it will be interesting Spring of Wells the better passer and Drones the better athlete.

🦃 🦃 🦃

I got an almost completely different read from that.

I'm still figuring this out.

For folks who have been on the fence about TKPC, I just knocked out a film review on Drones. I even go into some of his work managing the game at the line of scrimmage pre-snap that bodes well for his future in Blacksburg. Look for it later this week.

Leggoooo .

Wonder if Kaleb would stay and be WR2 catching balls from Drones, or if he wants to go be WR1 somewhere else

According to espn stats on him, it looks like he played in 5 games, including 2 where he did not record a stat, but does have a QBR...not sure how that works...but I guess they burned his RS then?

Edit: never mind, looks like in those 2 games he had a total of 3 carries for 11 yards

Need to put his face on the front of the drone, have a football drop, and a reception in the end zone with an explosion in the background.

That requires more skills than "right-click -> copy image URL -> paste".
