OT: Miami Football Operations Center

Not sure if this is worth discussion, but I was pretty blown away by the info in this announcement about Miami's new football operations center they are going to build on campus.

This is my first attempt at a topic post, so my sincere apologies if I didn't do this right. Chalk it up to a rookie mistake

That is one ugly ass building but dang is it going to be nice on the inside.

"Now Miami wants to talk about it." *Cue Enter Sandman*

That's what she sa.....nevermind

That is impressive. However, their football stadium will still be off campus.

Are they monitoring all the police channels in South Florida?

I'll see myself out.

Bob: What would ya say ya do here?

Brad: I already told you! I iron out the minutiae so Justin doesn't have to. I have people skills dammit! What the hell is wrong with you people?

The key is not allowing basketball and soccer players in there. A "football only" building is key to recruiting

Miami has never had a issue recruiting they might want to worry about what improves playing a lot more

I am pretty happy with the performance they have been getting out of their recruits in the ACC era.

da u still ain't bak

I seldom speak to loluva grads, but when I do, I tell them I want large fries.

Man, that COVID money is going a long way for them. It will be interesting to see what Radacovich and Diaz Cristobal can do there.

Edit: πŸ€¦πŸ»β€β™‚οΈ

Diaz

You mean Danny Miaz?

Diaz?

Probably meant Ruiz as in the guy shoveling out millions in NIL to Miami athletics right now

I see a backwards super s on the front of that building. I know it's not exact but that is what I see.

Seems like kind of a waste lol. Imo they should go all in on the on campus stadium. Get an active student section and make it more accessible and fan friendly than Hard Rock. Also limit the size so it doesn't expose thin crowds, maybe 55,000 usually, expandable to 70-75k for big games (ie Florida State).

But thankfully that doesn't appear to be a priority

Coral Gables will never, ever, EVER give the greenlight for an on-campus stadium. It's a waste of time for them to pursue it.

For those who may not know, it is pretty much one of the most expensive neighborhoods in Miami, with the median home value (as of March 2021) being $3.6 million.

We're not just talking NIMBYs here, we're talking mega-rich NIMBYs.

One other thing - I think people forget how small the school actually is. They only have around 12k undergrads, 7k postgrads.

wow they have grown a lot, they used to be like 8k undergrad

They only have around 12k undergrads, 7k postgrads.

And that lack of a student body results in a very small alumni base, which leads to the small home crowds they get. If they aren't a national power getting the entire city to bandwagon to them, nobody cares about Miami football. And now that its been 20 years since their heyday, they're always going to face an uphill battle getting those fans back.

"When I was growing up, Virginia Tech was a school that was kicking ass and taking names, and it's time we get back to that" - James Franklin

And put it where exactly?

As vtdlang posted already, it's not a huge campus and there's practically no space for them to expand outward. Golf course to the North and neighborhoods in every other direction. Da U's campus is less than 1/5 the size of VT's campus.

Not just the stadium, but the parking as well. Unless you are going to pull a Boston College and run a free school bus shuttle service to bring the fans in and out on game day.

I think you're on to something there.. the rendering of the new football ops building even looks like its 1/2 parking garage. Unless they filled in that lake and built the stadium on top of a parking garage there's no where for attendees to park

I would say its doable, but it would take a while at a huge expense. With the free space available many buildings could come down and be rebuilt elsewhere on campus, but its going to take away from the campus feel and turn it into more of a city block. Assuming they did that and prioritized demolishing buildings on the west side of campus around Yaron Field, there should be enough space. You could also drain and fill-in the pond to make more usable room, but again taking away from the campus atmosphere.

Or, you buy land adjacent to the current campus perimeter at an extreme premium. Neither option is financially viable.

An island stadium on Lake Oscola would be pretty dope. Given that there's only 8 actual Miami Fans, the stadium wouldn't need to be that big.

Just fill the lake in for the stadium.

Kind of reminds me of Dallas City Hall, Arcitect I.M. Pei.

I hate it

Pretty sure I made a smash bros brawl level just like that...

It is ugly. But matches the rest of the campus (at least the medical center). So props for consistency?

We put the K in Kwality

not a fan. will age fast and looks dated already.

Interiors could be amazing though so far looks pretty bland.

"Football Only Facility" -- then 2 paragraphs in -

a parking garage with 555 spaces and a ground-level dining center to serve all UM student-athletes.

I told him I’d crawl on my hands and knees to be the DL coach at Virginia Tech. Now, all of a sudden, I’m sitting in this chair and I told him I’d still crawl on my hands and knees to work here. I just want to be here.
