Let's Go!
Hokies!
The camera work/angles should be decent for those watching at home. I gave up on watching the camera mounted in booth games from last year. Excited to see the season get started. Hopeful we can move up in the rankings!
The good girls are ranked #9 BTW and I guess the RV in front of Nebraska stands for Receiving Votes since they have 3 but are outside the to 25.
Yes RV is Receiving Votes
Some stats going into the the games.
Virginia Tech comes into the game having the 4th best ERA in the country (minimum 5 games) at 0.23, while Nebraska is 3rd at 0.22, and UCLA is tied for 1st at 0.21. There will not be much scoring during these games. Arizona also comes in with a solid 1.68 ERA.
Who gets on base? Arizona is #1 at .587, the Hokies at .414.
Who scores? Arizona at #1 at 12.6 rpg, the Hokies are tied at 37 at 6.4.
Guess a 1.68 ERA is acceptable if you are scoring 12.6 per.
Sounds like runs will be at an uber premium.
Which team has played to stiffest schedule to this point in your opinion?
Well 15 runs have been score by the teams in our game against OSU so far.
I see why OKST is ranked 5th. This is a tough team. Glad to see girls didn't give up when in a hole.
Tough loss to open the weekend. Hopefully girls bounce back from 10-9 final.
Girls win 6-4 over Nebraska, good bounce back
Hell of a schedule today
4pm vs #2 UCLA
7pm vs #10 Arizona
I bet they are saying the same thing
Pretty sure this gif is murdering my iPad.
I live 20 minutes from the tournament. Thinking about going, but could the schedule be any worse relative to the MBB game at 5pm?
You have to ask yourself, which is more likely to be worth watching? If MBB plays like they did in the ATL then thats an easy answer
I mean, I'm always going to support MBB, but right now they aren't playing for anything but pride. This softball team is the real deal. Going to that game would be my decision!
Maybe Softball and MBB are flipping roles today seeing the 6-0 start in bottom of the first
Already had plans for steaks and cigars for the bball game so I stuck with those. Turned out to be the right choice, lol. Not sure if I can squeeze it in, but might try to catch the softball game tomorrow.
This UCLA team just reloaded with talented freshmen. Good lord.
Well, that game didn't last long... sheesh.
Brutal start
Not sure why Emma didn't start against UCLA... Maybe they didn't think we could win?
1-3 so far in Clearwater. Not a great showing by the VT softball team (they have played some great teams). It's difficult to overstate just how much Keely Rochard meant to this team and program. She was a tactician (she knew who she was, what her pitches were, when they were working, when they weren't and where to throw those pitches). Additionally, she could pitch for days and seemingly never get tired. She didn't need a ton of help from the offense but she did get it last season.
Emma Lemley isn't there. At least not yet. She's very good (17 K's against Arizona. Wow!), but she isn't quite the tactician Keely was and she tires much more easily. Additionally, I'm not certain the offense is the same as it was last season, so the team won't be able to win those low scoring games with ease.
Last year was the year the Lady Hokies needed to make a run because it might be a while before all those pieces are together again. This is a good team, but I don't think it's the same caliber as last year.
With all of that being said, there's a lot of youth out there. I think we'll see some real bright spots during the season, but I also think we'll see some real stinkers along the way. We may see from this group what we've seen from the MBB team this year.
Well, to be fair, Lesley is a sophomore who had to revamp her pitching technique in the offseason to eliminate the illegal pitch problems she had last year. She'll get there in time.
The team still has a lot of upside and it's early in the year.
major flashbacks from last season hitting me right now... good lord some of those games with the inconsistent illegal pitch calls
I saw no difference from last year.
Yes but you seeing a difference doesn't matter as long as the refs see a difference.
Ladies dropped to 12 in this weeks rankings. Headed to Texas where they'll take on the Longhorns and a couple of other Texas teams this weekend.
Was not a good weekend against top shelf comp.
Very true. But obligatory, 'It's a marathon, not a sprint' comment. Got some good opportunities to get things going in the future.
They looked good against Texas today. Beat the horns 6-5 in 8 innings. Won 11-0 in their first game in Texas.
I think it's bogus that we get two games today and tomorrow with Texas as the second game each time. Meanwhile, Texas only had one game today and their first game tomorrow is against us.
It's called setting yourself, as tournament host, up for success. For your team only.
Oh...I'm aware.
Came back from 5-2 deficit to win. Great win!!
8-0 run rule win over Texas Southern π
