Ok TKP, tell me how to feel about this one...
Robbie Beran anagrams to A Ribbon Beer, so add a little lime and Joe couldn't be happier.
Fun fact - everyone's favorite refreshing Italian lager Peroni Nastro Azzurro translates to blue ribbon. So Italian PBR!
I had a PBR and lime for the first time in probably a year while I was out in Portland and it was as good as I remembered.
Noted. Will not try PBR again any time soon
Fruit the beer? That sounds like over handling to me squirrely Dan.
Sounds like something a Zima drinker would do.
feel good. He's probably our starter at the 5 unless Kidd shows major progress in fall camp.
He started 99 games at PF over 4 years for a B1G team that got better each of his seasons. He can defend the 4 and the 5.
He's not a go-to scorer but he is a plus defender who can shoot from outside. He also hit FT at 84% last season (75% career). Aside from the obvious pick & pop actions, just parking him outside the 3pt line draws the other team's post player out of the lane, giving Rice & Pedulla more room to operate.
Seems like a real gym rat. First in, last out kind of guy. Maybe the son of a coach.
high motor, elite compete level
Sneaky athleticism.
he's white
His left leg isn't. Hopefully he's better than this photoshop job.
lol holy shit I missed that originally. That's hilarious
Mutts pose with superimposed?
This is our brand
That was how I remember Storm being described when he showed up. I'll take it.
Better late than never
Started 99 of 120 games at Northwestern. His playing time this season diminished though with the emergence of Brooks Barnhizer. Better defensively than offensively. A shot disrupter in the paint. Averaged a block a game.
As a starter getting 26 minutes he averaged 7.5 points 4.5 rebounds and less than one assist. Excellent free throw shooting. Isn't afraid to shoot from outside. Went 39/113 last season (35%) on about 3 attempts per game. Rebounding numbers concern me if we are looking for him to be a swing 4. Assist numbers are also concerning if he isn't comfortable with an inside out role to find shooters on the perimeter. Not a particularly efficient shooter inside either. This season was 37% but across 4 years it's 41%. Ideally interior post scorers are above 50%. Does not foul often (~2 per game.) Does not turn the ball over much (less than 1 per game.)
Smart kid (Academic All Big Ten) and the Big Ten Sportsmanship award winner for 2023-23.
All in all good kid to have in the program who can handle banging inside with the best the ACC can bring and should be a reliable teammate if things get tough.
understood. We gained an enforcer.
An enforcer, you say? Too bad they don't let em fight in men's basketball like they do in women's. /s
well hell, they let Grayson Allen trip and tackle people, that's just a hop skip and a jump away from fightin'
Akin to dropping the gloves in hockey, they should shed the jersey to signal they'd like to participate in a donnybrook.

Pretty decent get given the timing and our circumstances. Looking at the profile of guys we had been targeting in the Portal, it looks to me we got caught off guard Basile actually left (despite some things pointing otherwise). Because of the timing, a lot of the better 4s/5s had either already committed or were deep into their recruitment. So getting a player like Beran, a starter caliber player with P5 experience, is a win.
He strikes me more as a glue guy. There's nothing flashy about his game at all, but he can do a little bit of everything that you would want from a front court player. He's also a very solid defender. I'm not sold on the idea that I've seen some fans talk about in that he's a much better offensive player and NW's system was holding him back. He's a 4 year player that's seen good minutes every year. He is what he is at this point. It's rare that you see a guy be roughly the same ages 18 to 21 and then suddenly see a big jump at 22 regardless of if they change schools or not. So if you're hoping for offensive firepower, you're likely gonna be disappointed. But in other ways, he gives us more positional versatility. Last year we had kind of an awkward front court fit. Basile could really only play the 5, Kidd/Poteat can only play the 5, Mutts could really only play the 4, etc. A lot of their skills didn't compliment each other well. Beran should be able to play both front court spots, so we can mix and match some different line up groups depending on who we're playing.
Enforcer, eh? I like it. Meet Robbie 'Hanson' Beran
If you like enforcers, do yourself a favor and watch Goon. (the original, not the sequel)
This one is definitely a hidden gem. I second the recommendation.
Thirded
Him and Poteat
My barber recommended a good documentary called Ice Guardians. A lot of good interviews with enforcers and those they protected.
This would buy Wessler some time to develope.
Yeah I would expect this puts Wessler on the 15-18 games at 5-7 mpg plan
Put me down as one who thinks Wessler will shock a lot of people offensively.
In a good or bad way?
Good... What's nice is Combine Academy National puts every game on YouTube so you can watch full games not just highlight cut ups. He was really good against Noah Clowney. At 7-1 should be lethal in pick and pop 3 game and has great feet in post and a lot of moves... Baby hook, drop step fade away, face up. And plays with a bit of a mean streak.
I agree with this but unfortunately don't trust Young and staff to action his playing time accordingly. Honestly didn't really want him redshirted this season but done is done. Hopefully he proves it out and coach adjusts time on the floor to match if for no other reason to see more fired up twitter posts from his mother.
