1 killed, 1 injured after explosion levels home owned by Caleb Farley

MOORESVILLE, N.C. (QUEEN CITY NEWS) — One person has been killed and another injured in an apparent explosion that leveled a home overnight in Mooresville, just off Lake Norman, according to Director of Fire Services and Emergency Management for Iredell Kent Greene.

Authorities confirm with Queen City News that both victims were male. Their identities are being withheld at this time, pending family notification.

The injured person, who was seen exiting the property as the first emergency crews arrived at the scene, was transported to Atrium Health CMC with non-life-threatening injuries, Greene said.
The deceased person was recovered as crews were searching the debris.

The house, owned by NFL cornerback Caleb Farley, located at 292 Barber Loop, could be seen in the rubble Tuesday morning, Aug. 22.

Farley was spotted at the scene with family on Tuesday speaking with authorities.

Multiple agencies responded to the scene overnight, including the Iredell County Sheriff's Office, Troutman Fire, Mooresville Fire, Lake Norman Fire, and Dominion Energy.

Neighbors in the area told QCN they heard 'a loud explosion' and smelled gas. Some also said the current homeowner, identified as Farley, has lived in the house for less than a year.

"A loud boom, about five minutes to midnight," Clay Wild, who was out for a morning walk, told Queen City News. "A gorgeous house, in all respects, I can't believe it."

Queen City News observed some Mooresville ladder trucks and EMS vehicles leaving the scene around 7 a.m. Tuesday. NC State Bureau of Investigation and ATF agents remain at the scene.

The 6,391 square-foot, natural-gas home was listed for just over $2 million in 2022 and was built in 2016, records showed. The circumstances of the explosion have not yet been officially released, however, the house being reduced to rubble is similar to a 2019 gas explosion that occurred at a home in Ballantyne. One person was killed in that explosion.

Farley is a cornerback for the Tennessee Titans and played college football at Virginia Tech before he was drafted by the Titans in the first round of the 2021 NFL Draft.

Has yet to be announced but twitter rumblings point towards his father being the casualty. Heartbreaking.

Fire Whit.

Damn. That is awful

Now finish up them taters; I'm gonna go fondle my sweaters.

Unfortunately, those rumors are now confirmed by authorities. Condolences to Caleb and his family.

"Exit light..."

Looking at the footage of the house, it's a miracle there was a survivor.

If you play it, they will win.

A lot of the times it's what room a person was in and 1st if it's vented (open doors, windows etc where force of explosion can go out versus no outlet for force), OR where in house they are with structural supports keeping them from being crushed from collapse.

So is this most likely a gas leak explosion based on the pictures? Seems that is usually the case when you hear about a house exploding like this. Makes we want to switch to 100% electric.

I had certainly guessed natural gas explosion as well.

Most likely natural gas but there can be other causes. Water heaters have been known to explode which can lead to major damage and fire. Outside gas leak like from a natural underground source into your home.

Exactly-holy cow! How did he SURVIVE much less actually walk out of it? Definitely added to my prayer list.

From the 2018 VT-uva game-"This is when LEGENDS are made!"

How horrible based on pictures, everything is a total loss including the cars in the garage. My heart goes out to him at this time.

Sucks. Thoughts and prayers to Caleb, friends, family and the deceased.

Man that poor kid. Lost his mom right before he came here too, right?

Oh man that's so awful. Prayers up.

This is absolutely awful, not least because Caleb already lost his mom and was vocal about opting out of the covid season wanting to be as safe as possible to help protect his dad :(

Really really feel for him, just awful

Yeah....this really really sucks. 😥

My wife takes the kids and leaves the house while I watch my Hokie games.........nuff said

Absolutely brutal for the young man. To be 24 without either of your parents is tough for anyone.
