Orlando (Fla.) Oak Ridge three-star small forward Tyler Johnson has announced his commitment to Virginia Tech.
The 6-foot-5, 190-pound rising senior chose the Hokies over offers from Texas Tech, Illinois, Clemson, UCF, Florida Atlantic, and others.
He becomes the first prospect in the 2024 cycle to commit to Mike Young.
Johnson spoke to On3 about his decision to choose Virginia Tech.
"Me and my family felt like this was the best option for me academically and to develop my game to get for the next level," he said.

"A wing that plays both ends. I can go get a bucket when I want to and I'm all about winning."
He has a message for the fanbase.
"I'm ready to go out there hoop and win with coach Young and the guys. Most definitely can't wait to play in front of Hokie Nation!"
According to the On3 Industry Rankings, Johnson is the No. 245 overall prospect in the 2024 cycle. He's also the No. 56 small forward prospect. The On3 Industry Ranking is a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.

This is a prospect who really started popping onto the radar lately. Really happy to see him lock in and commit to the Hokies.
Despite his height he projects as 4 for VT.
247 is sleeping on him (unranked), and on3 may have him under ranked at 245.

HE CANT COACH... never makes the tourney, never beats Duke or UNC.... but beats VT of course. Hate him. I also hate that prick PJ Hall. Darius maddox sticking it up both of their asses is one of my favorite VT moments... mind you of course VT led by 15 in that game with 2 mins left in regulation.

Slot Fuckboy. Runs shoddy routes, can't create separation, has unreliable hands. Always sneakily puts his drinks on your tab and annoys the group of girls you and your normal friends were making eye contact with and preparing to engage.
Requires some processing and thinning out on the roster for sure!
