You're mixing up McClain (2*) and Givens (4*). Givens is on DL right now due to his personal preference but has stronger potential on OL.

I don't think he played a snap in 2 years.
He was a reach offer during Pry's transitional class that didn't work out. Real easy kid to root for. He's from SWVA, grew up a VT fan, great kid/locker room guy but wasn't an ACC-caliber OL. There's a reason why he didn't see the field when we are aggressively looking for OL help.
Sucks to see a local kid go but hopefully he finds success elsewhere. Definitely rooting for him!
After praising Pry and the university, he commits to sticking with the team through the bowl game.
I'm never happy to see a player leave, but the gratefulness and praise that a lot of these players who are portaling are showering on Pry and the program on their way out is genuinely uplifting to see. The culture and morale on this team must be outstanding right now.

bummed for him, would have been such a great story to have him as a major contributor. i guess cbp really isnt scared to have those tough conversations. hope he lands somewhere good and dominates.
Considering that he is going to stay with the team through the bowl game also says that Pry is doing well with those tough conversations.
Might also be a favor from Pry since most of these transfers don't have much, if any, tape of them. It's possible he sticks some of them into the game to get them that tape. Think that would be cool of him if it doesn't hurt our chances of winning.
Yeah, lets hope we are way up so we can get some of these guys in there in the second half.
I suspect it's as simple as he likes his teammates and the coaches, and they like him. He knows he's playing somewhere else next year, and needs to get his recruiting started, but for now this is his team and he's going to finish the season with them.
This is total speculation on my part, but either way it sounds like it's an amicable move from a good kid.
