WBB vs Miami Jan 11

The #11 Ladies host Miami(RV 8) tonight at 8 PM in Cassell. The game will be televised on the ACC Network. Miami is 11-3 and 1-2 in the ACC.

Their losses are to #4 Baylor, #15 Louisville, and Boston College. Their ACC win was a dominant beating of Wake Forest by 30, in which they set a school record for blocked shots with 13 and two players set personal records: Oldacre with 6 and Lattimore with 5. This is the same WF team the Hokies struggled to put away in Winston Salem; Miami had them in Coral Gables. Their only notable win was at then #21 Mississippi State (now RV 3).

They start a sophomore, 6'6" forward Oldacre, three juniors, (5'10" guard Roberts, 5'6" guard Day-Wilson, a Duke transfer, and 5'9" guard Williams)and a grad student, 5'10" guard Patrick, a Columbia transfer. They seem to primarily play 4 guards and a forward with Oldacre, Spearman and Lattimore trading off as the bigs. Until the Wake game 5'6" junior guard Lashae Dwyer was a starter. Williams replaced her as a starter against Wake, but she still played 16.5 minutes and scored 9 points.

Only Roberts averages double figure scoring at 11.5 ppg; but 7 players average 6.6 to 8.9 ppg. Five guards play 22 to 27 min/game. Oldacre plays 19 mpg, Spearman 17 and Lattimore 11. Hylton with 19 and Stedman with 11 mpg finish out the minutes in a 10 man rotation. They have about 40 more TO's than assists; but they have caused 100 more TO's than assists allowed. They have won the rebound battle by about 5.5 per game and have outscored their opponents by about 16 ppg.

With a 10 player rotation, it's not likely that fouls will impact their player availability. Miami is not an NC State caliber team; but they are not the Little Sisters of the Poor. The Ladies will have to play with intensity to win this game. A let-down after the big win on Sunday could be fatal. I look for Kitley to bounce back from her (I hesitate to say disappointing because she scored 27 points) less than typical shooting performance against NC State. Amoore will continue to be Amoore. And King, Wenzel, Michaux, Ekh and company should provide enough support to make this a comfortable win.

It would be good if Amoore especially could play less than 40 minutes. I will be a little surprised if she comes back next year and we need to develop someone, Wenzel?, to take her place at PG. I think Strack is developing as the next center; but we need to develop the supporting cast. We are going to be very young next year unless the portal provides experience.

LETS GO HOKIES!

I wont be surprised if Amoore comes back. The top draft picks in the WNBA dont make as much as college stars do from NIL is what I keep being told. Caitlyn Clark hasn't flat out said she's coming out this year, and she'd be the #1 pick if she did.

#1 overall pick makes $75,000 base salary in the WNBA and it scales down from there. Does Amoore make more than that currently, does she make more than what the #15 pick makes? I wouldnt be surprised if the answer is yes between endorsements, her podcasts, Triumph money, etc.

To your Wenzel point however, I do think she's the next start for us and I'd like to see her start taking the next steps

They'll really get after ya

Amoore's goal may not be the WNBA. I would not be surprised if she wanted to play in a professional league that put her closer to Australia. Don't know enough about women's pro ball to know if that is possible; but I have heard that players overseas make more than the WNBA.

Doesn't matter if it's cake or pie as long as it's chocolate.

Pretty sure this is her route. She wants to be closer to home and will be one of the top female athletes in all of Australia. Way more money in endorsements for her down under than here as an unknown wnba player.

I would have to think she would also be up for a spot on the next Olympic team. IIRC Australia has a pretty legit WBB National Team.

did they ever figure out her visa situation such that she could earn money? I thought she couldn't make a dime off of NIL because of the student visa.

🦃 🦃 🦃

I would hope that they could arrange for her NIL money to be put in a trust until she stops being a student. That would be the simple solution.

The ironic part of student visas is that you can earn money while working for the University. This allows students and such earn a stipend/pay while working in a science laboratory, library, etc. But, NCAA and NIL rules forbid such payment.

🦃 🦃 🦃

Pretty sure it's the State Department rules that govern student visas.

This could be a tough game especially if the team is still riding the high from Sunday.

I expect Lexi Blue to play a big role as the ball handler, with Wenzel slotting more in the King role. I know she will be a true freshman but she has a great touch with the passing.

Man, 0-8 from 3. Miami has to feel like they should be up and instead are tied. If some shots can start falling, they can blow this open.

4 for 19 and 0 for 8 from three. Hopefully the shots start going in.

Need Carys Baker to come in and drop a couple of threes.

The lack of whistles with all the bumping in the paint/baseline is costing the Hokies.

Not sure how the Hokies both moving in other direction put that out of bounds with complete change in ball direction.

Would you rather fight one Kitley sized Amoore or 100 Amoore sized Kitleys?

Probably 100 Amoore sized Kitleys.

A Kitley sized Amoore would be straight up boss mode
