New sports streaming service

Fox ESPN and Warner Brothers to start a new streaming service for sports. Wonder how it will affect college football and the power 5.

The offerings are set to include NFL, NBA, MLB, NHL, NASCAR, college sports, UFC, PGA, FIFA World Cup among other sporting events.

Just lists "college sports". I'd think that they might list college football separately if they were going to include it.

I think this is good for sports fans (at least the ones who aren't broke). One subscription for all sports would simplify a lot.

what movie/show is this from?

I could use a little more Seth Rogen/LOTR references in my life.

I have definitely seen that...my poor, poor, brain cells.

Is it a bad movie, or did you just not remember having seen it?

It's not a great movie. But I enjoyed it in a mindless way, and also in a "screw the DPRK" kind of way.

What HT said ^^

I just didn't recall that specific scene, it was dumb but I enjoy most dumb things with Rogen involved

Yeah but I won't get it because lets say $10 of the $30 subscriber cost goes to paying the schools. 8 of those dollars are going to the SEC and Big Ten, 1.95 is going to the ACC and Big 12 and the remaining $0.05 is going to the entire G5.

I can't support a model with those disparities. I choose online streams to watch the games and direct donations to VT if I spend any money on college football

I mean, good on you, but I'm picking the easiest to use option that's mildly affordable. Right now I have YouTube TV, espn+, tennis channel. If I could consolidate that into one subscription (with a working multiview) I'm doing it.

I am with you. If it carries my Hokie games, Tennis, and the NFL I am good.

I can see it now. It'll be like $15/mo to start. In a year or two it'll be $65/mo or $10-$15 cheaper than a full streaming service/cable.

If it means that I'll never have to deal with a blackout ever again, I'm totally okay with that.

I don't see how this would change blacked out games unless I missed reading something. Local station rights would still cause regional blackouts

This sounds good in theory, but bracing for it to be $80 a month and price increases starting after 6 months of its release

If you can't handle my shit posts, you don't deserve my memes

With those three (Fox, ESPN, and especially Disney), how could it be bad / what could possibly go wrong? /S
I mean hey, I can watch any Marvel Action Hero movie I want! (As long as I pay for a Disney channel subscription).

gtofever

no way this will end well

Is this not the definition of a monopoly?

I'm assuming small schools wouldn't like it, but I'd love an a la carte option of just Hokie sports, like $5-10 (which seems appropriate if you get a ton of sports for $60. I don't really watch much other than that anyway - too many other things I'd rather spend my time on.

While I agree that I would like this option, the thing is we will want VT sports to be able to reach as many eyeballs as possible if we want to get into the CFP. While VT might, and I stress might, be able to get more revenue with direct model, we will want our games accessible to as many people as possible if we hope to move the brand forward.

Good point - makes sense!

I saw a piece on the new streaming today, and they were talking that the service could be turned on and off monthly. Could keep it on for college/pro ball, and turn it off when not needed.
