Given we have a National Portal Thread and an Outgoing Portal thread, figured we could consolidate all the (hopefully) good news into one place.
And we've got a few right off the bat...

He is visiting tonight
We are competing with LSU, GT, and Ole Miss for him
We know how this will end
ACL tear? /s
Both SEC programs are to be a backup though is my understanding. May not matter with the check but I guess we will see.
Portal OL from Colorado
Eh...different side of the ball, but still, this guy has shared a sideline with Cornelsen
He doesn't have the cooties.
No, but he might have the Cornies
Womp womp
Leg for the reference
Isn't this the guy who was at JUCO with Copeland? Decent numbers at Coastal for an edge guy...43 tackles (23 solo), 9.5 sacks, 3 forced fumbles -no idea how many season snaps though. He did have 9 tackles, 3.5TFL and 3 sacks against App State this year which is a solid day at the office.
I'd guess so
WR from ECU
He's good but that's kind of the position of least need right now
Maybe...but Lane, Felton, Jennings and Gosnell are gone. That means Benji Gosnell at TE and Ayden Greene are our top returning guys. We have about 25% of our receiving yards returning.
I know we have guys waiting in the wings but can't hurt to have an experienced guy bolstering the room.
Would that make Tucker Holloway the old man in the WR room (whenever he heals up)?
That would explain the lengthy recovery. Us old fellas take longer to get healthy
He never plays. Never. He's like Christian mccaffrey - except not a hall of fame talent
Didn't he play a lot at the end of last year (his freshman year) and then get a knee injury with off season surgery? I can understand not wanting to rush a guy back off of knee surgery, especially when we theoretically had a stable of talented senior WRs.
Well having a bunch of guys returning didn't work, so we're trying the opposite!
Fire up the ECU2VT graphics!
So teams like ECU and ODU become feeder teams for schools like VT, where we can get them ready for the SEC
I think a lot of people forget how frequently we pulled from Fork Union
But we didn't turn those guys over to bigger pay days after a year or two
I'm just sayin' the ECU and ODU are a step-up from Fork Union... I'm just ignoring the truth that we're also part of the developmental program for these kids to jump elsewhere.
I could be wrong but I think that's where Al Young, one of my favorite VT point guards, came from.
Totally tangential- but I got to guard him i a pickup game in War Memorial Gym ; I got in his way enough" once to cause him to dribble the ball off his thigh-one of my brushes with greatness lol.
So cool. One time in the War Memorial Gym, one afternoon during summer school, I ended up in a pick-up game with Reggie Steppe and a few athletic types. I was on Reggie's team and my brush with greatness was my cut underneath the basket while Reggie had the ball (honestly just trying to get out of the way), when the next thing I knew, the ball just "appeared" in my hands while I was under the basket, enabling a quick & easy layup. It seemed like some sort of voodoo to me, and was totally impressive how he threaded a needle I didn't even see.
That's awesome. Also remember watching a pickup game involving several linemen from the football team; an opponent drove the lane and tried to go up and over one of the linemen to the basket; the defender caught him in mid-air in his arms, placed him back on his feet on the floor, and said "I'll take the charge"!
Different situation, a lot of the Fork Union guys were "grey shirts". Mostly guys who didn't have the grades or test scores to get into VT, so they spent a year at FUMA, with the understanding that they'd come to VT once they qualified.
Together we can build a seven win team!
Only if you count the bowl win.
We saw the benefit of having a solid portal backup this year.
Need two different threads, one for offers and one for commits.
"The Portal Giveth" and "The Portal Teaseth"?
(I hope the creator of the outbound thread retitles it "The Portal Taketh.")
just give each commit their own thread
Need more OL
The only prescription is more OL.

Any relation?
That was my immediate reaction as well.
Running Back from Penn
Hosley's have worked out in the past for VT. (Though quick googling looks like no relation to Jayron)
Welp
Nice touch by putting "Bill Belichick and...." His support staff is doing the recruiting, not him.
I guess they're going to have to write some pretty big checks.
#TX2VT
Elite name club.
Fucking Utah Tech, Abeline Christian... come the fuck on... We are offering basically anyone in the portal now. More of the same 6-6 nonsense or worse. Beers and Rails are on me if our coaches have ever fucking seen a Utah tech game/film.
Tuten was at North Carolina A&T
Yes I'm aware. That's one. Lane was from Norfolk State- I get it. Are we trying to win the ACC? Or just run the same mentality back?
You could argue that a proven lower level player has higher upside than a "failed" higher level player. We have had success and failure with both versions. South Carolina just paid a sophomore DB >$1M to stay.... we aren't poaching starters from P2 teams.
I remember when our punter got hurt in the early 2000's. Beamer was asked why he was using Ben Taylor to punt, Beamer said- well he's been in a game before. As in- on the field - in any capacity. So yeah, there is value in having a kid that has actually played in a D1 game before vs. a true frosh or hoping a HS kid pans out- sure on the surface.. but are we just throwing spagehtti on the wall chasing Abeline Christian players? just because they have played in a game?
Do you think Tuten and Lane were the reasons we didn't win the ACC?
Doesn't matter. We didn't win the ACC... so instead of fishing in a bigger portal pond than NC AT, we are offering Utah Tech guys- hoping to strike gold again. As opposed to raising the talent level. I assume there is a reason this fine young man was playing at Utah Tech?
We got guys from Alabama and Oklahoma last year, did either even see the field? I'd rather get guys who will contribute next season and I think where they played college football this year is the least important thing about them.
TBF, Gilliam did get more burn as the season went on
Good call, for some reason I thought Gilliam was the JUCO guy. Also, I didn't bother to look it up before posting, which is the kind of quality control you can expect from my posts.
I think Copeland was the Juco guy and he got hurt
Correct, Copeland was JUCO and got hurt about halfway through the season, but played a lot. Gilliam was constantly in rotation and played more as the season progressed. Perry never saw the field. So 50-50 on blue blood transfers.
Jaelin (sp) Lane was from MTSU.
One thing to consider is a lot of these players were being recruited during the COVID era where there was a lot less in-person recruiting/scouting, camps, etc. which led to a number of players going under the radar. Some of these guys may very well be capable of playing in P4 and just needed to prove themselves.
We need Scooter Jackson. No idea if he's any good and I don't care.
We have another offer out to a CB with the last name McDoom so I can only assume our coaches first level of evaluation is name.
TBF, when you are spamming offers off a spreadsheet that isn't the worst selection criteria
Looks like Henderson is going to Rutgers
Offered a second Richmond OL guy
Georgia State starting OG Lamar Robinson. From Alexandria, VA and started his career at Norfolk State. One year of eligibility remaining
Happy for every OL and LB offer we make.
Looks like OL, LB, and DB are priorities. As they should be.
Wow he captured our entire active roster in 1 picture.
You know things are getting ugly when this picture and comment is reminiscent of the ".....than more fans at LOLUVA's Spring game" TKP meme.
I guess Tawfiq is not pronounced Kevin?
Eastern guys play hard, I like this one.
Are we even allowed to recruit guys that pass block better than they run block?
He tall!
Sherrod Covil, DB from Clemson is visiting today.
Need to make these hires quick. OL need to know who their coach is. But also understand Pry is in a tough spot, it's also very important they nail these hires in all aspects of the job.
If he's trying to hire someone off of a playoff team here's hoping they get bounced in the first round (unless it's SMU, go Stangs, show out for the ACC)
What the hell? I thought they were all coming to VT.
NC Central RB J'Mari Taylor chose UVA over the Hokies. He had visited and had an offer.
Hokies had six targets in for visits yesterday. Not tracking the names though.
Hokies are now one of only five P4 schools to not yet get a portal commit.
Our company is Purdue, Georgia, WVU, and Pitt. Two of the four are going through head coach and full staff turnover. Georgia is only chasing the top end guys. Nardouche and Pry fighting to be portal inept king.
Meh- Rich Rod is going to run the zone read in morgantown again and win 11 games a year in the Big 12. Simple as that. He is totally going to catch lightning in a bottle twice.
Only if he finds another White and Slayton.
That was only part of it. He was gifted the perfect us against them scenario when VT and Miami left the Big East to die. Rich Rod's teams played with that boulder on their shoulder because of it. WVU thought they were going to be left high and dry without a major conference and Rich Rod got them to play that way. Those days are long gone. His resume at Michigan and Arizona are much more an indicator. He had one good year at Arizona before him trying to sleep with every woman in the football building became public and he had that decent QB... bottom line- none of that shit is going to happen again.
The signs are up for a commit. No CB's yet.
Sounds like it's Sherrod Covil from Clemson
Big time position of need and perception transfer (from VA) if true. Also makes me wonder if he may have an idea who the new DC may be...and that they may have a specialty in safeties...hmmmmm
How big of a get is this? 92 out of high school, has he played in college at all?
Don't love guys transferring out of Clemson/bama/etc... usually means they can't cut it.
Played in 32 games as a backup Nickel but Clemson has two Sophomores between him and the field.
Oscar Smith HS graduate and Hokies have offered his younger brother in Class of 26 along with several other players from that school. Jahmari Deloatch, who they Hokies flipped from Cincinnati is also an Oscar Smith product. They just won the Class 6 Championship in VA. Believe Covill was a big part of Oscar Smith winning the 2020 and 2021 state titles.
Just because they can't cut it at a program that recruits in the top 10 doesn't mean they can't play high level ball. There's a huge list of guys who transferred out of top programs and became good college players just like there's a huge list of busts.
New Mexico RB Eli Sanders to USCw. Was a hokie target
Open Thread...

Sees Portal Targets go elsewhere....
I'll let someone else make the thread looks like we got the 5'9 220 bowling ball from bowling green. Breaks a lot of tackles not as much top end speed but a great pick up imo.
Jordan Bass in the portal ππ
Thought we had him when he came out of high school. Here's to hoping we land him.
If the Pavia ruling stands it may mean Brumgield has another year of eligibility.
