We are getting slow around here. Saw this earlier. It sounds like he will be back by early summer, and that they consulted some serious people on the procedure.
BRENT PRY STATEMENT ON QUARTERBACK KYRON DRONES: "Kyron Drones is scheduled to have a minor medical procedure and we've made the decision to hold him out for the remainder of spring practice. Damn, our new oc is going to have a hard time polishing this turd into a cohesive offense without drones in the lineup. Bet the line on the usc game is ready to move
Yups... 'fraid so.
As someone just said... our Learning and our offensive Experiencing and Learning Curves just caught a hurtful Training Room springy... v.Tarrif.

That said... his extrinsic (next portal window) soliciting market just went Hokibird, bearish...
...as honestly? This prolly helps us retain him; actually.
St.Sebastian bless!!!

Maybe the portal has called, and he is resting for his new assignment.
Whose check cleared?
Gonna be a difficult decision to turn away from Pop after he beats USCe. π
This season about to be butt ugly.
...we jus' gotta (somehow) split the first two.
.5oo vs. 3-1 to open A.c.c. play is waaaaaay mo' than a 1-game difference in the standings.
It is tenure: tipping point; a Norris Hall gone Jamerson, fulcrum.

I too am becoming more and more pessimistic about this season. But I'm sure I'll hop back on the hype train in a few months.
there's nothing going to get me on the hype train this year. It's going to be brutal.
I think I'm going to be feeling the same way until the hype video drops.
Maybe I'll feel better seeing some of the transfers but right now I can't say any unit on defense is better than 2022. On offense, our QB might be better if Drones is healthy, our RBs are a push, TEs is probably a push, Benji might be slightly better than Gallo (could be a whole lot better if he breaksout), WRs are better now but how could they not be, and Oline seems a push at best, there isn't a Danzi or Chaplin on the roster right now. We definitely don't have Moore punting which is right now a downgrade.
Coaching should be better but I'm not sure we have better players than in 2022.
I would say RBs are better once you add in Stewart who won't be on campus until summer IIRC? OL pieces I would say are worse but I agree with the assessment as a whole I don't think this team is any better than 2022 on paper. We're significantly worse than last year just about everywhere it seems which has me quite concerned.
Yeah i just don't know how good the transfer backs are also there are a couple of transfers in the front 7 that might really standout but I dont know ow how they fit or seen much film of them.
Unfortunately, this is where I'm at.
I agree, the Drones injury isn't a huge deal on it's own but everything else I've heard sounds like we won't be that good. Question is, will Pry get fired after we go 5-7? The roster is significantly worse than last season, everything else could improve and we end up 5-7/6-6. But no one signed up for 5-7 in year 4 when he was hired.
I think Pry is gone on anything less than 7-5 regular season.
I would say that's probably right, but I think Whit has to go first. He hasn't announced his retirement yet, so until he gets fired or decides to leave, I think we ride out Pry's contract. No chance Whit gets to make a third football hire.
Not sure Whit will happen. But I am pretty sure about Pry and less than 7-5.
Wasn't it already?
Yes
If Drones will actually be ready by summer, I'm not sure this is really that big of a deal. He will still be around the team and can learn from the new OC. At this point we all know Drones' strengths so the OC can still plan around him, and it's not like we would be trying to alter his throwing motion or anything with his senior season about to start. Seems like a good opportunity for Watson to get some extra reps and make his case to start after this season
Let's hope. Drones will need to get in pace with his WR and communicte with his new OL.
Kind of surprised people think Drones is going to beat Watson for starter.
Pop showed potential in his time at the end of the season, but also showed his inexperience. Drones missing time should get Pop more reps and make fall camp a close competition as long as Pop succeeds with those reps. I don't know whether to blame Drones' struggles on him, a nagging injury, the former OC, etc. I think Lane and Tuten getting 3-4th round draft consideration and Felton possibly sneaking into the 7th makes me question Bowen a bit more. We could have 6 players drafted from a 6-7 team! Makes me question the coaching all around. Good thing there were changes made...
One thing that stood out with the offense the last few years - we catch no contested balls. We have to be wide open to make a catch unless the last name is gosnell.
Ayden Greene has entered the chat...
Is this a reference to the wide open drops he had on 3rd down all season or a couple good catches in a lost cause bowl game?
It's a reference to A. Greene being able to make contested catches. It's not like S. Gosnell never had open drops, and I'm a huge fan of his.
Im a fan of Greene's upside... but other than the bowl game with 2 nice catches his season was lots of "track athlete with brick hands". Somehow benji Gosnell had the best catches as a TE
I can't blame the OC for Drones missing wide open receivers and throwing 3 yards behind receivers on crossing routes. He was also good for at least one massive overthrow on a go route per game.
Our inability to hit open receivers was glaring by the end of the year. It's one thing to thread the needle in tight coverage, it's another thing to not be able to give your receiver a chance when they have two steps on their man. We also seem to have no ability to put touch on a ball. We rifle short passes to wide open receivers and then lob into coverage it seems. Very frustrating.
I think you underestimate how bad UVA's secondary was.
Also, the fact that Monty recruited drones out of high school signals that drones is probably a fit for whatever scheme Monty intends to run.
Agree here. By all accounts, Drones is the unquestioned QB1 this year. I don't even think it's a competition with Pop. I know Pop has a lot of fans from the spring game two years ago and a fun UVA game, but he has also been extremely bad in his games against Duke and the bowl. If Drones is hurt or hampered by injury again, the stock for this season will plummet.
I think Pop's 'real' level of development was revealed in the bowl game. Drones would have done a better job were he healthy IMHO.
I can't see holding the bowl game with any level of evaluation. You took a 6-6 team and then removed 14 of its starters before the bowl, including 60%-80% of an already horrific offensive line.
If there's no improvement in the OL then 100% he will start. Pop was a deer in headlights against Minnesota and they were just a competent DL.
Hopefully, Drones is field-ready by summer.
If not...
Next man up.
Suboptimal news, but I guess the most important part is that he will be 100% by Fall practice.
