Irish eyes ain't smilin....
Hokies have been bad, Irish have been worse. We have lost by not being able to close. Irish have done that once by way of the officials at Cal.

Their other two ACC losses to Clemson and Miami were both double-digit. Its when you look at their OOC losses that the inconsistent play becomes glaring. Lost at home to Purdue Fort Wayne, took Ohio State to the buzzer, beat Rutgers, lose to Houston. Their only ACC win was a barnburner.... 47-40 over Stanford....but they won....something we couldn't do.

Hammond will be seeing his Paul VI teammate Garrett Sundra.

Micah Shrewsberry has not been the coach Notre Dame thought they were poaching from Penn State. Reportedly had a good increase in NIL going into this season but the results are flat. May be he invested all of it into Haralson. The freshman was #17 in the 2025 class and has done well. There are two other Top 100 2025 kids in Koehler and Frost but both play minor roles off the bench.

The biggest factor in this game is that the Irish will be without leading scorer Markus Burton. He was averaging 18.5 points.

The Irish are also missing Senior Forward Kebba Njie off the bench. Big bodied, 6'10 forward playing about 15 mpg.

Tyler Johnson remains out for the Hokies

Shrewsberry's offense is intentionally controlled rather than fast. He values shot quality over shot volume, floor balance and spacing and decision-making guards.
Notre Dame under Shrewsberry generally plays at a slower tempo, ranking toward the bottom third nationally in pace. Possessions are meant to end with open perimeter shots, paint touches that collapse the defense or free throws.

The ball-screen game is the backbone of the offense. Use of high ball screens with the intent to force switches or drops
Guards are expected to turn the corner and either hit the roller or pass out to shooters. Forwards are not asked to be dominant post scorers; instead they set physical, well-timed screens and roll hard to occupy help defenders. A big part is to create spacing for guards to operate
Notre Dame's offense often looks stagnant early in possessions because Shrewsberry wants defenders to commit before the decisive action happens late in the clock. The offense rises or falls with guard play.

This season they shoot 52% inside, 37% from 3, and 69% from the line on about 18 attempts per game. Top 100 rebounding at 38 per game. Scoring the 266th fewest ppg. Very defense first and snails pace. They create less than 10 turnovers per game though.

Notre Dame typically plays deliberate, possession-by-possession defense, emphasizing positioning, communication, and trust in help principles over steals or chaos. They use a man-to-man primarily which focuses on strong ball pressure without overreaching. Shrewsberry expects help defenders to keep one foot in the paint. This defense is meant to stop the shot rather than taking risks to force turnovers. This is a man-to-man defense that comes as close to the pack line defense as possible.

The Hokies SHOULD be able to dominate inside on both ends. The question is will they? This is probably the smallest lineup the Hokies will see this year.

Until this teams shows hey have gotten rid of the end of game yips, I will be skeptical on any result.

Let's go.

Doesn't matter if it's cake or pie as long as it's chocolate.

HOKIES!!!

I seldom speak to loluva grads, but when I do, I tell them I want large fries.

Nice run....

Sometimes we live no particular way but our own

Glad to see we're getting some points in the paint

I seldom speak to loluva grads, but when I do, I tell them I want large fries.

Can't challenge and of course we have clean as day replay showing Lawal nor ball had crossed the line.

I think you should be able to challenge that. Kind of like a three-pointer... foot on the line, foot over the line, etc. Like you said, the replay clearly showed Lawal, nor the ball, was not yet into the frontcourt.

That was not a backcourt!

How is it a jump ball when the Irish guy on floor has both arms around Gurdak's legs?

Dang Gurdak... you need to strengthen your hands

I seldom speak to loluva grads, but when I do, I tell them I want large fries.

That was an awful sequence... don't challenge when clearly off Irish leads to four chance opportunities to finally score

Refs are awful every game it feels like. Wish basketball had a better solution to this ref problem. Mike not feeling like he needs to use his challenge on obvious calls is maddening already

Yeah...if its a gimme like that, you get it back

And he's probably thinking "I want to save it in case I need it for an end game iffy call"; but a possession saved is a possession now or possession later. If you use it now perhaps you aren't even worrying about it later because you have an extra score

Not sure what Hammond is supposed to do if they are going to let Shrewsberry throw his shoulder like that

What TIME is it????????????????????

I seldom speak to loluva grads, but when I do, I tell them I want large fries.

4:30.

This is going to be great for the ACC.

It's not late...no, NO!
Its early.

They keep talking about how ND has such a terrible turnover differential in the season. Yet, we've turned it over 6 times to their 7. Clean that up and were up 20 easily

LOOK AT MY THROWING IN SOME FULL COURT PRESS

what a dumb end of half play

I seldom speak to loluva grads, but when I do, I tell them I want large fries.

Yeah great timeout there

Lmao at the commentator "he's so good at end game situations"....can't get the ball in or a shot off every game

Yeah didnt we earlier cover that our 3 ACC losses are for failing at this...

Yeah up 11 but just feels disappointing again. Really feels like we should be up by 20+.

As for turnovers, remember that two of those are the one Lawal rightly wanted Young to review and another is Lawal getting called for over and back when he clearly wasnt but no review possible.

These announcers are terrible, especially the color guy. Call the game on the court. Really miss Debbie Antonnelli on the call.

Focus on winning the 2nd half by 10. Don't let this team hang around.

What was the call we just successfully challenged?

This is going to be great for the ACC.

Gurdak blocked the ball back onto the offensive player before it went out of bounds

is this a bacon game?

I seldom speak to loluva grads, but when I do, I tell them I want large fries.

Apparently that was only the loluva game. No bacon then. Since 2 games with 2 back to back misses, but no bacon. Smithfield must have backed down their support.

Still throwing out bacon pants. But I want to eat my bacon, not wear it.

Go Hokies!!

Yeah, probably a Smithfield decision. It was a really good promotion while it lasted.

I seldom speak to loluva grads, but when I do, I tell them I want large fries.

Yeah sounds like they committed a bit more per sport in support of the Commonwealth Clash but did away with the ACC home game giveaways.

Glad to see Avdalas make a couple of threes. Now he needs to play defense and block out.

Go at Haralson the rest of the game (when he's in, of course)

I seldom speak to loluva grads, but when I do, I tell them I want large fries.

I'm not going to say it because I'll jinx it but we've done something really well this game that's been a problem in all 3 loses. Amazing what games look like when you make the free ones.

I've been reserving comment since halftime!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Announcer says "VT doing what VT does best". Don't think they meant what I'm thinking....
Now I am worried.

Sometimes we live no particular way but our own

Put Hammond in for Neo. He's a turnover machine

Neo is a fuckin turnover machine

Edit: Drinking

get Neo out. this is not the game to play through freshman mistakes!
and go after Haralson and Towt

I seldom speak to loluva grads, but when I do, I tell them I want large fries.

Pretty obvious from the sloppy lazy play this team has learned nothing.

Hansberry never needed to touch that guy trapped on floor

Love his effort, but he picks up so many cheap fouls.

Ultimately, you can't help the team if you're constantly on the bench with foul trouble

CMY has to stop slowing us down. He's letting them back in the game.

This. Its a coach thing. You can tell them eat the shot clock but dont change the pace of the passing and off ball movement especially with this floating 2-3 zone they are using. Going slow let's them close holes easily

Rob Peterson

Serious question: at this point in the season i wonder what our point differential is with Neo off the floor VS Neo on the floor.

+4.1 per 100 possessions - 6th on the team

Amani is 1st with +8.7

I love the smell of bourbon in the morning... smells like... Football!

So with that, the answer is off the floor if the top 5 are on.

No Bueno for your "Point Guard"

I thought the same thing! Don't think it factors for acc play vs him beating up on providence

The common factor in all 3? Hammond and Schutt

Yeah no surprise there.

Taking entirely too long on a review that's as obvious as they come

Pretty terrible reffing tonight from a "who did that go out on" perspective. Just auto "out on VT" and have been wrong 3 times that we know for sure.

Too bad this not a cooking show PB&J challenge.....

Turning the game off because every game I've watched until the end this season we have lost.
