Virginia Tech football officially announces its canceling games against Liberty in 2029 in Blacksburg and 2030 in Lynchburg.β Mike Barber (@StillMikeBarber) March 2, 2026
Making room for 9th ACC game. Think Hokies still need to cancel a game in 27, 28 and 31.

GREAT news
best news I've heard all off season
And there was much rejoicing!
Aww those poor Flames, just going to be watching our season from the side mad they don't get to play us. You know where they're sitting.
this will never get old
Currently we still will play them in 27 and 28 unfortunately
there is still a lot of times to cancel those games
At least both of those are in Blacksburg. We managed to get out of the deal with only one trip to Lynchburg.
So long Biberty
Lord Thunderin' Jesus! Thank God!
This wasn't exactly keeping me up at night, but...

Deplatforming liberty is a huge win for society at large. Don't love the acc schedule, but this is great.
It looks like we've finally done all of the work to allow for the 9 game ACC schedule. We actually need to get another game scheduled for 2029, as well as each year starting in 2031.
What's wvu doing those years? ... open from 2031 on, Whit you reading this?
Their non-con slate is full through 2030. From 2031-2036, other than an annual series against Pitt, they've only got games against VMI (2031) and uva (2032).
Are they back to playing Pitt then? Knew it wasnt happening next year. My friends from High School raging on FB about it.
Picks back up in 2029 for an 8 year stint...at least for now.
Marshall has openings in 2029 and future years. I'm always down to play them.
I'd even be willing to go to their stadium (but I have family friends in Huntington so there's that :P)
As a Tech grad living in Huntington, I would be very on board with this.
You think the ACC won't alter things in the next 5 years or so? Asking for a friend.
You think the ACC will exist in 5 years? Also asking for a friend
You think we are going to be in the ACC 5 years from now?
Who knows if college football exists in 5 years.
I will sacrifice Liberty to secure college football existence
I'd sacrifice them for less!
--Patrick Henry
I'd sacrifice them for a chance to run barefoot through a hallway full of Legos during a plantar fascitis flare-up.
I'd sacrifice them for free.
I don't think the ACC can go five months without altering a schedule.
You have to justify those pay checks
