David Wilson has mono, and won't play against North Carolina.

Fuck.

/deep breaths

This is an all around colossal loss for the Hokies. Wilson is averaging a team high 6.24 yards per carry on 74 carries with 4 rushing touchdowns. More importantly, his 2 housed kickoff returns swung the momentum in our favor against NC State and Georgia Tech. For those keeping score at home, against UNC we will be without our top two kick returners (Dyrell Roberts compartment syndrome) and that really stings. Ryan Williams and Tony Gregory will return kicks against UNC. I'll consider it a success if they don't turn the ball over while brining it out, anything more is gravy. Wilson's energy level is unmatched, and no doubt, that too will be missed on the practice field and sidelines.

Glass half full, the 100 Proof Backfield is back in action. I for one am looking forward to seeing Darren Evans and a healthy Ryan Williams mash some face.

Also note that Chris Drager won't play either.

Drager is suffering from lingering effects from a hit he took late in the Georgia Tech game.

Drager had been really developing at defensive end and now it's redshirt freshman James Gayle's turn to carry the load. Gayle has only 5 solo and 3 assisted tackles on the season, but has looked promising. Backing up Gayle will most likely be a rotation of J.R. Collins and Josh Eadie.

Unfortunately, we don't have the same luxury of depth along the defensive line as we do at running back. So I'm definitely worried about how much Drager's loss is going to affect us Saturday afternoon.

we'll be ok...

With Tony Gregory's speed and Ryan Williams getting more carries I think we'll be fine. There's no way we can replace what David brought to the table but how quickly we've forgotten about how good RMFW was last year. Karma says he runs all over the Tards after the fluke fumble last year.

It's been a pretty common theme over the past few years with this backfield. One guy goes down, someone is right there to pick him up.

I'm also expecting Marcus Davis to shine over the next few games being bumped up to the #3 WR. I think Tyrod likes to target him.

I wonder

who Wilson kissed...

one time....

i once thought i had mono for an entire year. it turned out i was just really bored.

then there was that time.

that i actually had mono for an entire year.

it sucked.

let's be honest here.

i mean, if we really think about it, we can all just probably #blameitoncamnewton.

hah

Go Hokies!

RMFW

First off the thought of Cam Newton giving DW mono is hilarious. Not sure if was a drunk make out session or tainted dollar dollar bills ya'll. Secondly, @Magduff, you being mis(self)diagnosed with mono that turned out to be boredom is absolutely fantastic. Maybe a magical kiss from you to DW will get him back in action for UNC b/c he will realize how bored he is.

The only thing that worries me about RMFW returning kicks is his punt return experience from the Alabama game last year. Also, we really can't afford to lose him right now. I agree, Joe, kneel in the end zone, cradle the ball if taking it out and don't try to win the game with a kick return for a touchdown. Unless we are behind, which we never are.
