Wow.
Logan Thomas celebrates one of the six TDs he accounted for in Wednesday's scrimmage. http://t.co/j01BCcJlPY— VT Football (@VT_Football) August 22, 2013
Sounds like Loeffler is using the full playbook in the closed scrimmage. That's a lot of Touchdowns folks. Getting excited for #BEATBAMA

Regardless of which level of D was in against the offense, it's great to see them in a rhythm. Looks like Trey Edmunds scored a TD, too. That's a lot of offense!
they were practicing RZ Offense, still, pretty good. For the Offense, yikes on D.
If all they did was practice RZ offense from here to #BEATBAMA day, that'd be fine with me. Easily the most important part of any offense, and it's brilliant to see Thomas score that many with the yellow jersey on.
If he can score that many without having the benefit of barreling over folks to get across the line, he has the potential to be SCARY good when the lights come on.
at least we'll have an RZ package. Remember in '09 (or was it '10?) that we didn't have one to begin the season?
I believe you meant "remember every year under O'Cainspring when we didn't have ANY RZ packages?"
I mean, that's great and everything but...
Sometimes what happens in practice mean A LOT. For example, being able to keep the job that pays for your ridiculously stupid lifestyle
Whole interview for those who might not get the reference
The best athletes and players are the ones that take practice seriously and practice more than anyone else. They put in the time to become experts. I would change this to "It's only a scrimmage".
I would argue (I'm not a basketball fan and don't know any more about this story than this interview and funny meme) that this man has put in more "practice" time at his craft than anyone else on that team. That's what makes him the best. So in that sense I agree with your post.
However, I think the same principle applies to a team, and the issue is one about team chemistry and comaraderie; a TEAM needs to practice together to be the best Team on the field/court.
So shame on you Allen Iverson. Play team ball!
Lol. What. The. Hell.

"Cocaines a Hell of a drug" 8-ball the tiger *fixed*
Now let's debate. How many did he throw and how many did he run? It's kind of annoying trying to figure out what happened in the scrimmage. I'm guessing they wanted to keep a lot of stuff under wraps however they did film. Hopefully we'll see some video.
Not me. I really don't want to see video...because Bama could see it, too. I'll settle for the live game celebration and SportsCenter replays of the "the great upset".
:56 - 1:10 :)
That's a segment that stood out to me, as well. Nice blocking by Stanford!
Well that was quick...
First impressions? So pumped. I love the direction the QB rushing package looks, with all the scat backs that Tech has (JC Coleman, Chris Mangus, and even Joel Caleb considering he's spent time at WR) it gives them a TON of flexibility to play around with the shot-gun rushing attack. Loeffler can start in five wide and threaten the secondary vertically and horizontally, then motion a back like Joel or Mangus into the backfield and run zone-read type of play.
Logan looks quick. Didn't he lose weight in the offseason? He's moving around really well. Still doesn't look 100% natural throwing short, but he more then makes up for that with the way he threatens the defense with his feet. Once that Yellow Jersey comes off, he's going to shine.
Brenden Motley will get some snaps at QB at some point in his career, dude is a playmaker. Not sure if he'll be consistent enough to ever start, but he can play for sure.
Devin Van Dyke will get after ya. He has a knack for reading the lane and hitting the RB in the backfield, he's shown that all summer. I'm not sure how he is in other aspects of defensive play (coverage? consistency?) but he has that playmaking x-factor that all great linebackers have. He'll leave his mark on this program at some point. He showed great speed catching chris mangus from behind, but he should avoid horse-collaring teammates too.
Very, very positive stuff. I'm all about this Shotgun package. Remember when Stinespring wanted to implement the "Pony" package when he had Williams and Evans, but never really used it too effectively? Yeah, looks like Loeffler knows whats up when it comes to two back shotgun packages. Super excited, wish it would have been open to the public to see.
Agreed, we'd love to be able to protect our QBs in the pocket, but Loeffler must unleash Logan with his feet. Especially on August 31st.
It is absolutely imperitive that we establish the run with the RB's before we call a designed run in for LT, whether it's a read option or straight keeper. If he gets blown up early in the game by one of Alabama's 6'4" 250lb LB's we are not going to have a good time.
#EVERYDOWNANDLOGAN
3 things stood out.
Motley is getting ridiculous. Leal better be looking over his shoulder. Motley got speed and game.
Logan Thomas on that read-option keeper! Reminds me of the "Final Drive." He looks faster than ever.
Chris Mangus may end up surprising a lot of folks, myself included.
LOVE THAT HARD RUNNING BY EDMUNDS FOR TOUCHDOWN! WAS THAT DRAGO LEADING?
Edit: Went back to watch the Edmunds touchdown run. Great job, but what caught my eyes was two things: BLOCKING that kept driving the defensive linemen backwards until they were on their asses. Drago, if that was him, and somebody else just flat out dominated in their blocking. /changes short/
Told y'all about motley after the first scrimmage. Kids a hard worker with tons of physical talent. That normally leads to success
I love it I love it I love it.
Wish we could have seen more of Logan's arm.
We're gonna beat alabama.
Who caught the last pass of the clip, the jump ball?
I agree it looks like Dadi. Same knee sleeve, and he's wearing a maroon (defense) jersey.
11:22 PM EDT, and THEY'VE TAKEN THE VIDEO DOWN.
PUT IT BACK, TORGERSEN BRIDGE PEOPLE! PUT IT BACK!
It's hilarious to me that they took the video down.
I mean, it makes sense... don't want to give Bama any free info... still hilarious though
It's not like we were running anything we've never run before though. Matter of fact, we've re-instituted some things (options, particularly) that we got away from since joining the ACC.
But then, maybe that's what you meant. lol
Yeah, I don't see it anymore..been looking but we know saban has the goons watching.
Havent seen Malleck out there in any of the videos and some one uploaded a picture of him with ice on his shoulder... is he just being held out for precautionary reasons and letting the backup tight races settle before the season opener in the Georgia Dome? Seems like Loeffler has been very impressed with him.
Joel Caleb looks like he could be a stud at running back
Without a doubt. Shame he'll be missing the first game. Tech could definitely use him.
Until I read that he was moving to RB, I had no idea that he and Edmunds were essentially the same size. Bodes well if he can run between tackles.
Those were impressive and exciting highlights but I didn't see much defense..hard to tell which unit was on the field in those highlights. I wonder if its one of those deals where the third team defense is on the field so that the offense can build some confidence.
On the last touchdown looks like Dadi caught a fade against Kendall Fuller, not sure if the entire 1st unit was in there or not.
That was the most cohesive, organized looking Virginia Tech offense I have seen since I became a Hokie in 2004. Very, very excited.
1. Chris Mangus is a burner. He picked up 20 yards on one run in a hot second, and I don't even think he hit his top gear.
2. Joel Caleb is the real deal at TB. For those who missed the highlight, he showed good speed and then lowered his shoulder and went kaboom on a DB.
3. Logan looked fast. Those pounds he lost were good for him.
4. I think I saw Sam Rogers beat someone up as a lead blocker.
5. WTF Dadi catching passes? Me likey.
2) I saw, I saw. I was impressed.
5) He could be our Mike Vrabel on nth-and goal.
And now my day just got so much better. Regardless of personnel -which "string" D was in or whatever, I bet the offense hadn't scored 6 TDs in a scrimmage since MV7 was in Lane. And why the funk isn't this at the top of the blog posts on the main page?!?!?! This is serious...
"...And get me a bloody mary, a steak sandwich and a uh... steak sandwich. And put $20 on the bill for yourelf."
Was it dadi who caught that pass? I thought it was someone wearing a blue jersey maybe DJ coles...but it seems I'm the only one haha
I think I just...ugh, gah...yeah, I did, right in my pants!
Keeping it close to our sleeve, SEC style. Lots of weird never before seen coach speak, then we are all hush hush over this.
Put your big boy pants on. Things are about to get crazy.
#BEATBAMA
Sun Tzu said (paraphrased) never attack the way your enemy expects you to attack, and never defend the way your enemy expects you to defend.
Bud Foster has made a living with disguised robber packages. I'm loving all the cloak and dagger with the offense!
#BEATBAMA!!!
A turkey leg for the Sun Tzu reference!
Man, after reading Mason's take on the last scrimmage I was all like

and now, after reading this, I'm all like

This is nice, but all that really matters is what happens on Game Day.
Voice of reason
I like that Loeffler is all Lloyd Carr/Bill Belichick with the highlights being taken down....that being said, I'd have loved to see them....oh well.
Encouraging reports, but once again, it's practice. Reference StinyFTL's gif above.
Dadi on offense...verrrrry inteeresting....possible 2-pt conversion play for later, maybe?
I hate to do this but I keep thinking about the 2012 Redskins. Showed absolutely nothing in Preseason, RG3 looked under utilized, then Week 1 against New Orleans: BOOM, new game changing offense that was completely out of left field. Hoping that is what happens.
I approve this message. - A redskins fan in Louisiana
Hokies, Breaux.
Red Stick Hokies
I also loved it when Shanny called a QB draw on a 2 point conversion with Cousins in the game.
That's a ballsy play call. Hope our new coaches took notes.
I've been saying that since Logan became our qb. If the hokies just took a few pages out of the redskins playbook our offense would unstoppable. Love me some skins and hokies!
It would be sweet if all our boys got drafted to the redskins instead of the giants, too!
Along the same lines, you have no idea how angry I was when Danny Coale was taken by the Cowgirls.
I hate seeing a cowboys bumper sticker anywhere.
Edit: "taken by cowgirls" doesn't actually sound that bad...
It was the best news I heard all draft week...
Um, Rex Grossman and John Beck were the QBs when Logan became the starter.
It's a time we'd rather forget
Very excited to hear the offense is doing stuff. It seems like the open scrimmages the offense stayed conservative and Loeffler is opening it up now.
I'm reading that loefler was pissed that the video got out... no clue if that's legitimate or smoke and mirrors but another site is telling posters who had seen the video not to post details on that site... seems odd.
HOPEFULLY THE VIDEO WASN'T UP LONG ENOUGH FOR ANYONE FROM ALABAMA TO NOTICE THAT WE HAVE COMPLETELY ABANDONED THE ZONE BLOCKING SCHEME AND STARTED RUNNING EVERYTHING OUT OF THE WISHBONE!
No, we really changed to a spread option like Oregon.;)
Saban's favorite offense! Especially when it's no-huddle!
I thought it was the flexbone quintuple option from the pistol. But maybe I'm wrong.
Before TV video was taken down, I was really excited to see the straight T, with Edmunds as fullback, Teller as left halfback, and Rogers as right half back.
Belly right, Belly left
Dive right, dive left.
Kickout right Kickout left.
Lead option right lead option left.

Bootleg.
Doneski. Put your war face on you mangy elephants.
bud did say if he was head coach, his o would be something like oregon's. . .
Yes, that's exactly what I've heard as well. Additionally, every single TD LT3 scored was off of a QB sneak from the 1 yard line against the 3rd string defense, with corners playing DT. Also, I've heard that we run every one of our running backs the same way: straight up the middle. Mangus is a beast running between the tackles.
I'm hearing that Lefty scripted that video and posted it on purpose and afterwards he and the offensive coaches were like
Austin Powers will get you a turkey leg every time
If that's true, it's a shame because something got out they didn't want out, and it probably means less access to practice for the casual fan. It's unfortunate the HokieSports folks put the video on YouTube in the first place. It's not like someone who shouldn't have been at practice leaked a tidbit, the video was uploaded to the official YouTube channel. Multiple people tweeted me about it minutes after it was posted.
I've always gotten the impression that HokieSports folks and people who write sports articles for the CT (and really anyone not on the roster/coaching/training staff who is still involved in sports at VT), are pretty darn clueless when it comes to sports. So I'm not particularly shocked here.
When I made a video from my high schools "midnight madness" practice, that was open to the public, the coach asked me to let him approve it before I posted it on youtube. I just don't see how the staff at a college program would have less control over their in house media than a high school program would have over a video from an open practice.

must...resist....thumbs down....for IA reference....
They really beat you over the head with that stuff don't they?!
I'm assuming this is like the North Korean press releases that say Kim Jong Un had 5 hole-in-ones.
Putt-Putt isnt that hard....
That 4th hole is a doozy though...
No worse than the #2 hole.
Reminded me of this Rob Delaney tweet. Disclaimer NSFW. But not all that bad.
That clown hole will get after ya....
I don't think I've ever had more than one hole-in-one in a round on putt-putt.
When I saw that they wanted the links taken down, I think Loeffler must have been like Doing from Futurama.
Bad video, but... You told THEM about THAT?! Cracks me up.
