i was there. i've only been to vt games over there before and it was a very laid back atmosphere. the tailgate was mellow, there were people cooking and drinking and playing corn hole but no hooting and hollering, hardly any music bumping, nobody driving through yelling go hoos or whatever, a very relaxing parking lot scene. i was wearing my horse on a treadmill shirt and an oregon hat (thats right) and one of my buddies was wearing a vt hat and we had maybe two or three things said to us all day about it, i guess rivalries are for the "jockular."

inside the stadium there was an impressive oregon turnout. they cheer, and dress, more like we do. there were jackasses rooting for booth teams near us but the hoos got next level shitty. there was a group of hoos seriously being loud and confrontational to a group of ducks in the next section. when the game got out of hand the hoos started to quiet down and the duck fans were returning the fire the heard early on. one of the hoos went and got a security person and a cop(!) and other hoos were all "we're just trying to watch the game and they wont leave us alone." the ducks got kicked out. it was a pussy move to start a shit talking session then go grab a cop when you can dish it out but cant take it.

most confusingly was the wahoo who after i guess got tired of flipping off the oregon fans started giving out hitler salutes (i shit you not). when another hoo called him out for that they turned on each other and there was a lot of "you're not a real fan! i'm a real fan!" nobody went and got him kicked out though.

i'd say the hoos got what i would call fairly loud on probably 3 or 4 plays and those were all in the first 20 minutes of the game. i barely noticed their band. they actually had a thing on the jumbotron called "hoos not paying attention?" the camera found people in the crowd who were playing with their phone or whatever and a clock timed how long before they noticed they were on screen. it was insane. they know their fans suck and they made a game out of it on the jumbotron. wow just wow.

but yeah i wouldnt disparage the whole not selling wcu when our rivals cant even sell out when the number 2 team in the country rolls into town.

This is awesome. I'm not an oregon fan, but I would have gone over and joined their section. The Hoos Not Paying Attention is awesomely hilarious. I can't even...

Good recap, thanks Blue Collar.

an oregon fan in front of us turned around and asked, "have you ever been to a loud stadium?" i give a wtf look and motioned to me and the guys sitting around me said "dude we're virginia tech fans." he gave me a blank stare. i told him we go to a loud stadium for every home game. he was like "yeah but autzen is really loud." i just let it slide but i was so incensed by that. have i been to a loud stadium? pfft.

Gotta love ducks fans: All my extended family is from Oregon and loves the ducks. Problem is it's a lot of passion without actual football knowledge. That duck fan probably doesn't even know who Frank Beamer is.... You see his mind has been erased by the constantly playing of:

FOSTERS: Australian for defense

A new season...new hope

I don't remember anything about the article, but I will remember this comment forever. #LOLUVA

I love Virginia Tech, regardless of the outcome of every game.

when the game got out of hand

so... you mean 3 minutes into the game?

great post. LOLUVA fans never cease to amaze me in their ability to define new levels of doucheness

one of the hoos went and got a security person and a cop(!)

They went down and got London off the field?

After reading that entire article, where exactly is the positive? He said it was good that the offense took what the defense gave them. So essentially he's happy that the coaches did what they're supposed to do? I don't get it.

Rip his freaking head off!

I guess their rebuilding year streak is still alive at 10

Dynasty!!

Beat WVU

They should be encouraged- I thought for sure we would find out whether Scott Stadium's scoreboard could track scores into the hundreds and they kept UVA in double digits.

2014 is the year of the Cavalier?? It would be funny if it wasn't so sad.

Regarding London's statement, you could insert WCU's head coach and that statement would still be applicable. Is he equating UVa's program with one that simply provides an opportunity for good teams to come in and play? Weak.

"Exit light..."

In the end, that's the death knell for London:
If you can't put fans in the seats, even for a #2 exciting Oregon team, then its hard to justify the coach, product.
Money, or lack of, talks.

Eh. Most of UVA's money comes from law and medical school alumni.

There were UVa fans at the tailgate?

Also, I think I have enough info to establish an early line on the Decade of Dominance game. If Alabama and Oregon are at about the same level (despite their very different styles of play), we should be 24 point favorites on 11/30 based on relative margins of defeat.

If there's one thing that UVa has on us this year, it is their home schedule. Home games vs. BYU, Oregon, Georgia Tech, Clemson and VT. If they can't put butts in seats for that lineup, they need to shut down the program and move on.

Cannot wait to be in hooville for 11/30. Even if I cant get tickets, im going just to support the Hokies and throw a ball in the parking lots.

I'm seriously trying to get to the UVSuck game. I would love to see the #DecadeOfDominance happen in person

I love how there were lots of recruits there to see that horror show. I really hope some of these high school kids wake up and see the reality that is VT vs uva football.

I kept thinking the same thing. This game did nothing for UVA other than show their recruits that they should be hoping for Oregon offers.

I can't even imagine what going to a game like this as a recruit feels like. I'm sure some of the commitments, like Brown, was upbeat and suggesting that he can help, but still. Front row seats to a massacre. Yikes.

I had front row tickets for the UVA vs. Miami game last year..my buddy is a Canes fan and the fans were far from civil. We had the cops called on us by fans too. Also that dumb bitch on the OL 78 walked over and cussed us out. One of the coaches grabbed him while laughing at us..this was right after the last minute score to take the lead. Even the cops are dickheads..I got yelled at by one of those walking back after the game for what he thought was me disobeying his get back on the sidewalk command. Fans are very weak though, not much tailgating, drinking, music, or loudness. It seems more like a social gathering then a football game. I'd expect 5,000 Hokie fans would be able to kick the asses of 50,000 LOLUVA fans pretty easily. Oh, and the parking lot had no alcohol signs everywhere..really?

Where to they keep the coolers full of Zima????....... lol.

The LOLUVA-Miami game was an interesting, yet totally stereotypical wahoo game. Some observations:

1. A majority of fans were there by kickoff, but a large percentage (10%, maybe?) didn't come in until mid-first quarter.
2. A lot of fans leave stadium around half-time, but use a second ticket to get back into the stadium. One wonders what this means regarding their attendance figures. Overstated, perhaps?
3. Mid-third quarter to fourth quarter, mass exodus. This is during a wahoo comeback, competitive ACC game. By the end of the game, of the roughly 58-60K people (supposedly) there, stands have visible open areas...down to about 45K (my estimate). This during a game that they won in the last minute of play.

This game just reinforced my belief that LOLUVA will never be a top-tier football team.

Take the shortest route to the ball and arrive in bad humor.

I think Mike London mistook top-tier for top-tear

Remember when we show up in Charlottesville this year, not to throw the pigskin at tailgates.

Edit: The Cav faithful seem not to understand how to throw a real tailgate (or play real football for that matter).

I bet you if you people were out there with lacrosse sticks tossing a ball around, they would go grab theirs and join in.

I've never been to UVA. I wanna go this year to see the beatdown!!!!!!

Being the 38-0 bro game was so satisfying. Tech owns that stadium.

They haven't offered Walker yet? I guess their plan of offering kids right after we do had a breakdown in it. Also love that Tremaine Edmunds was there to see it all live. I'd love to be on the phone when he called Trey after watching THAT.

Experienced the Hoo tradition of them calling the cops on opposing fans personally. Only difference was, my buddy's older brother was a Charlottesville cop (off duty) at the time and went with us to the game with his cop buddies. We...may...have been slightly inebriated and somewhat disorderly on the hill area, but when we started getting into it with the UVA fans and they'd yell for the cops, my buddy's brother and his friends would hustle down and throw the UVA people out. Happened twice before they left us alone for the rest of the game. It was glorious.
