$EC IS BUSTED - Improper Benefits

According to an article on ESPN and a report by Yahoo sports:

Five Southeastern Conference football players, including former Alabama All-American tackle D.J. Fluker, allegedly received impermissible benefits prior to completing their collegiate careers.

A former Albama DE, Luther Davis, apparenltly funneled $45,500 (!!!) to the following players:
former Alabama DT D.J. Fluker
starting Tennessee DE Mardice Couch
former Tennessee QB Tyler Bray
former Mississipi State players Fletcher Cox and Chad Bumphis

Let me go get my shocked face.

Precisely what I was thinking.

breaking news. Question is well there be any repercussions.

Win one for the Beamer...

Hopin for scholy reductions, that'll help us the most right now I'm not a big fan of vacating wins I don't think that does much

The NCAA will just wait until those teams play their late season cupcakes and make them sit out for half a quarter in the second half.

Or maybe they will allow them to play in their bowl game, as long as they promise to return for the next season to serve their penalties.

Ha Ha. So true.
The NCAA requests that the school vacate the affected games which in reality does nothing.
The NCAA has sent a stern warning to all schools that are NOT traditionally in the top 10 that if they even think about doing something wrong they will be hammered, UNLESS they get a note from EPSN excusing their behavior.

The NCAA needs to make a decision...if receiving money is OK, then they need to figure out how to make that ok. If receiving money is not ok then they need to stop worrying about their pockets and drop the hammer and show the world they mean business, otherwise it keeps happening.

Ridicule me if you want, but i enjoy NASCAR and this past week they have levied some of the most serious penalties in recent history pulling 1 and maybe another driver out of the playoffs...they still have a long way to go in establishing credibility but at least they made it clear they won't tolerate cheating.

Read the Yahoo article. Don't give ESPN the page clicks

THIS
It looked like ESPN was the last to report it because of their interests. One of the reasons I have migrated to b/r and FS1

Danny Coale is still open.

I've been quite impressed with FS1 so far. It will be interesting to see their coverage of the game on Saturday. The only real benefit of the ACC/ESPN deal is having basically every football and bball game available on some channel.

what's incredible is that fluker tweeted out a few months ago that he got paid at bama. his agent was like "nuh uh" and the media was like "ok, SEC! SEC! SEC!"

"That kid you're talking to right there, I think he played his nuts off! And you can quote me on that shit!" -Bud Foster

the article should read 5 players from the SEC ARENT paid

Taylor, looking desperately throws it deep..HAS A MAN OPEN DANNY COALE WITH A CATCH ALL THE WAY DOWN TO THE FIVE!!!!....hes still open

Even if the punish the schools by vacating wins and forcing Bama to vacate their title, Bama will still claim it as being won and fly their flags for however many fake national titles they have.

Hokieshibe pretty much already started this thread yesterday, with most of the links seen here:

not going to lie, I definitely only clicked the top links on his thread and didnt make it past the big crater image. Otherwise I would have seen he posted it.

Hyping up Hokie Nation one video at a time.

It's alright, the flashy programs need to be exposed for we knew was happening all along.

The comments sections on those articles are funny as hell. On the OSU ones there are lots of "Bring the hammer down/Death penalty" comments, but on the SEC article some of the same people are basically saying "The schools didn't do anything, can't punish them"

I wonder what conference they are fans of?

In other news, water is wet.

"I can't speak to that," says Les Miles. "I just attend water-related events to support our student athletes so they can get help. I can say for sure that I've never seen wetness, and university does not tolerate any wetness by our waters."

BUSTED! ;)

The edit on this makes me giggle.

The funny thing is, nothing is going to come of this. At most, the school will get a slap on the wrist. After the Miami incident, everyone realized that the benefits from cheating far outweigh the risks. What do you think Ole Miss did last year to pull a top 5 recruiting class out of thin air? What do you think Tennessee and Kentucky are doing to pull in ridiculous recruiting classes this year? The system is broken, and at this point it's basically pay to win.

But if the opposite happens (perhaps wishful thinking), maybe things would really change. Everyone seems to forget that the Miami case isn't over and the NCAA can still do basically whatever it wants. Given that they've botched it several times over, the outcome won't be as damning as "da U" probably deserves, but still. Realistically, you're probably right but I'm hoping not. If the allegations are true, it's just more evidence of widespread disregard for rules. One would hope that the hammer has to drop at some point, and it seems like this may be one opportunity to do so. I, for one, am sick and tired of all of this stuff happening.

Fixing the problem? Easier said than done, of course. It will take a heavy lift before the NCAA would implement any meaningful reforms.

"Exit light..."

What people are forgetting is that Alabama is still under a 5 year "Repeat Offender" window and if they do get punished, its going to be even worse than you would expect. The window doesn't expire until July 2014.

http://www.al.com/sports/index.ssf/2012/06/alabama_no_longer_on_ncaa_pro...

The NCAA praised Alabama for its thorough internal investigation and yet stung the school in its report, calling it a "serial repeat offender," saying its infractions track record was "abysmal" and suggesting that its "appalling and unprecedented" recent infractions history was "unmatched by any other member institution in the NCAA."

VHokie

And it's aTm week. Saban got pissed and walked out of his press conference today because of all the questions... I'm not saying it's some conspiracy, but this story dropped at a convenient time.

Why couldn't it have dropped 2 weeks ago? I would have liked that a lot more.

Rip his freaking head off!

ESPN was still crowning Bama as champs this year saying they'll just go from being the first team to three peat to just have a national title this year. Not saying they aren't an obvious front runner, but any team can be beat any given saturday...or whatever day of the week ESPN decides you get to play.
