Does any body know a safe place to park, that's cheap or free, and hopefully not to far away from Bobby Dodd stadium. I've never had to drive in Atlanta before and I'm sure we have a couple Hokies in the ATL who could help me out with some info. Thanks!

If you've never driven in Atlanta before and don't know the areas at least somewhat, take MARTA; you can get off at the North Ave. Station and it's 2 blocks to the stadium and you walk right by The Varsity. You can park at Doraville, Chamblee, Brookhaven, Sandy Springs, North Springs, Lindbergh, or Lenox for free. It's $2.50 each way on the train.
Would anyone care if we tailgated at one of those parking lots.
I've never tried it. You'll probably have the best shot of tailgating at Chamblee, Brookhaven, or Doraville stations cause they're just open parking lots instead of Parking Decks. Worth a shot at least. If you park at Brookhaven, Lindbergh, or Lenox you can walk to several bars if the tailgating doesn't work out.
I recommend parking at Brookhaven, and doing the bar crawl myself. Plus, you need to go to the Varsity...especially if you've never been to Atlanta.
This is my plan minus the Varsity, the wife won't get within 100 yards of that place unfortunately.
No one would care -but you'd have few who would understand what you were doing, the cops would so it'd be kosher... I recommend hitting up MARTA as well and get hammered down there at a reputable establishment (or non-reputable, your call).
There's a GROUPON for some really good tickets -that's funny.
I agree with Hokieman32 here. If you're new to Atlanta, it's probably better to take Marta. However, if you're itching to tailgate close to the stadium, the best parking I've found is nearly across the street from the stadium at the Arthur Blank Family YMCA. However, this is Atlanta, and plans often change for no reason and with no logic. I wouldn't be surprised if they stopped allowing parking there for no reason. Either way, it's where I park. During the last techmobowl in Atlanta, it was $10 to park there. 33.770758,-84.395804
How early do lots open up?
During the last game here, I was in my parking spot at the YMCA at about 5pm for a similar Thursday night ESPN kickoff. Generally, parking lots open 3 hours prior to anything in town.
Turkey Legs for the suggestions! Y'all are the best.
Park on the other side of I75/85 by taking pedestrian walkway just north east of the stadium.
There are two large parking garages with security.
http://pts.gatech.edu/park/gameday/Pages/GamedayParking.aspx click the pdf parking map and you will see the walkway just to the top right of the stadium.
If you're taking the Marta and walking, seriously don't go alone. Atlanta gets really sketchy a few blocks away from the Georgia Tech campus.
