Womens BBall 5-0, kinda shocked

With how the Hokies womens basketball team has performed in recent years I was shocked to see that they are now sitting at 5-0 including a win over Florida. The five wins are half the total they won last year all season.

Nothing about this should really be all that shocking. Schedule has helped, considering they should be 7-0 by the end of Saturday as long as they don't come out flat tomorrow or Saturday. They have a true point guard and even a back up point guard this year which they really didn't have a single point guard last year. All of the young girls Dennis has brought in can shoot the ball and with the depth this year, they can run it some. They should at least make the WNIT this year and they will have 3-4 years with the bulk of this team so they should only get better.

We talking about Bonnie Henrickson type of teams?

As long as Dennis finds someone to replace Uju next year, I'd say they have a shot to make an NCAA appearance or two with the group of freshmen and sophomores they have right now. He has done a great job of finding recruits outside the norm. Apparently he has a connection over with the Australian national team (read this yesterday in the team preview in Hokiesports) and he has found some talent in Canada and all over the country. We have one player from Virginia on the roster (Conyers who is a walk on from the club team) so he has shown his staff isn't afraid of travelling to find ACC level players.

I hope people start recognizing how much fun this team is to watch and start showing up to home games. 1500 people is barely more than volleyball gets and this team is going to be fun to watch.

I thought I saw some Aussies on the team.

Good to know, wish I had more access to watch. I remember going to the sweet sixteen back when the spark plug was there.
