I think this is awesome for couple of reasons. First, Blacksburg is awesome, who wouldn't want to live here? Second, a larger local alumni base could help solve several of the major issues facing our athletic department. Thoughts?

I know I for one would buy season tickets for basketball and catch all the baseball, soccer ect (no matter how bad we were) games I could if I lived in the NRV and not 4 hours away.
Great article! Born and raised in the NRV and still living here after graduating from Tech. And honestly, I probably will never leave.
I would move back down in a heartbeat, but right now I can't beat the DMV job opportunities.
I love living in the NRV. Just about every other vehicle that passes me on 81 has a VT logo of
some sort. Love it!!!
I love the area and would live there easily, but unless a job pays the same or greater, there's no way I could get my SO to move there considering her long standing job with a recent promotion where we're at.
I'd definitely attend as many sporting events as possible if I weren't greater than 2 and a half hours away.
Also live in the NRV, while work prohibits me from making every event I try to support as much as I can.
I would love to move back to Blacksburg. My husband has dreams of working for the Corps or ROTC programs so he could still be active duty and live there.
Would love to live in the area...
But that said, the job market in places like the Research Triangle Park and Nova, where MANY companies actively seek out those with a VT diploma... that'll be tough competition. Just don't see it feasible right now for me to move back with the job market down here like it is.
We looked at living in NorVa but quickly discovered that any increase in pay was eaten up by the high cost of living.
Then factor in the driving frustrations and that NorVa is suburban hell and decided Roanoke area is perfect.
That's where I'm from! Every time we go visit my sister in Alexandria, it's a headache with the travel. I wouldn't mind living back in the noke when I graduate, but I suppose I'll go where the job leads me
Hey now, Alexandria born and raised. The traffic there isn't nearly as bad as other areas of Northern VA.
Compared to Roanoke and anyplace in NRV, it's pure hell.
Atlanta, Manhattan and Los Angeles might be the only places worse.
OK, I might get down votes for this, but I think I need to take that risk.
My wife and I have developed a plan to move to the NRV since February last year. We have plans for our own small business in the area. We've discussed the necessary permits, etc. with the proper local government agencies and all is a go. I think I could get a high tech job in the area with my 30 years of experience in wireless communications. We are just finishing up our kids college stints and have had our house on the market for 8 months to make this happen.
The issue is selling our house - its in a very unique market. So I'm going to include the link here. If we sell this house, we will be on our way. Anyone out there want to own a vacation home or live in one of the best salt water fishing environment on the planet?

Yes, we live on a small island accessible only by boat. The fishing and water access is exceptional!
If the TKP community wants this message removed, I will do that.
Aruba, Jamaica, Kokomo... I don't see a VT sign on your signpost. FAIL.
We've got a piece of hokie stone in the front yard, n the vt flag flies every game day from the boathouse! NEVER FAIL!!
do you live there? or just rent it out? either way i couldnt see letting that place go.
Is it not feasible to maintain that house as an income/rental property?
All I can say is that you're a very blessed man.
I hear Jimmy Buffet all of a sudden.
You should be hearing Metallica.
Very nice, but I can't afford a vacation home yet. I have a season ticket habit to feed.
The wife n I really love and appreciate the positive feedback on our house. It is a great place...we just have new dreams. Appreciate the hokie love. There just has to be a TKP tailgate next season so we can all put faces with user names! If you know of someone who might want an awesome vacation home, were all ears. GO HOKIES!
Sadly the money and jobs just aren't there for me right now. But my brother lives in Blacksburg and works in Salem so he likes to rub it in whenever I'm back home for a game.
