Wood plans to return

Virginia Tech sophomore forward Marshall Wood averaged only 12.5 minutes and 1.8 points in ACC play this year. Coach James Johnson chose not to even play him in two games.

Some players with little playing time think about transferring, but Wood said he intends to return to the Hokies next season, even though this year has had a lot of ups and downs for him.

People just perform sometimes better than you, Wood said Tuesday. I personally would have liked to have had a more productive season, but I havent. But Im fine with that.

I love the guys. I love the program. Ive very comfortable in Blacksburg and I have no reason to leave.

This is a good sign for James Johnson and the direction next season may be headed

This is both a bit of a surprise and good news.

but the rumor mill. . .

I thought it was refreshing to see his comment acknowledging that other players were playing better than he was and that he wasn't satisfied with how he did. Very mature response there.

Agree. Well said - hope he uses it to elevate his game.

Row Z forever.

Sounds like he's motivated to perform better next season, hopefully he'll take full hold of a starting job.

He should go back to the high top fade. Definitely made a difference

"Marshall Wood, with a smile as big as his flat top!" is one of my favorite broadcasting calls of all time. Right up there with the "Miracle in Blacksburg" and "These people are losing their minds...this is beautiful."

Not the bagman VT deserves, but the bagman VT needs right now.

This is a bit surprising considering just a couple weeks ago he told JJ he was leaving. Don't know if the recent playing time has convinced him otherwise, but it is nice to know he is coming back. Hopefully JJ will rotate him between the 3 and 4 spots next year. He's got talent, just needs to get his head in the right place.

He's always seemed engaged in the game, even when sitting- not like the typical pouting you'd see from a disgruntled player. He plays hard and has some perimeter skills, just seems like he does not know whether to be a perimeter or post guy. We'll find out next year as its JVZ and Barksdale, then Thompson and Marshall at the 4-5 spots... that's all we got (not counting Kirby as he I think has a ways to go)
